Finally done with my painting! [work + process]

After the success of Focus Art Fair in Paris 2021 that I joined last year, the exhibit director called me and asked me to join again this year... this time at Carrousel du Louvre, Paris!!! The venue, Carrousel du Louvre, is an underground shopping mall just across the famous Louvre museum - the museum that houses Mona Lisa. My work will just be a few meters away from Mona Lisa. :o

I had a few months to prepare but even so, I was thinking twice to join since I have some other plans with @acidyo coming up and I don't want the painting to come in the way. Fast forward, we were able to do those things planned and am still able to do the painting but I had to do it near the deadline. lol

The Process

I have a 4-meter wall in the exhibit area and I am free to do whatever I want with it. I decided to do a 127cm x 198.12cm (4ft x 6.5ft) big canvas and had a friend make the framing and mounting. When it arrived, I was kinda shocked to see it so big lmao even though I was the one who estimated how big it should be. And that's my dog not knowing what the hell is happening and why I'm taking our pic together. :D

_DSF5868.jpg

I went outside my usual process: I just painted whatever comes up my mind with less planning. I usually plan my paintings carefully, from the colors to the composition, which causes me stress often as I don't want to make mistakes and do things again etc.. This time it's different, it's more carefree and even though I planned it a little bit, it's not hardcore planning and I let subconscious do most of the work.

I was really enjoying the flowy-dripping effect with my acrylic that I overdid it in some areas in the painting lol.

IMG_0010.jpg

It also helped that I was listening to Serial Killers podcast on Spotify while doing this... so you can imagine why there's a lot of blood-like effect on the painting haha.

_DSF6124.jpg

I took some pics of me painting as well...nthose that I can put in my portfolio or something.

_DSF6125.jpg

This kinda looks like an artist-stock-photo. :D

It took me quite a while to finish it. Maybe 3 weeks. I could've finished it sooner so I don't have to stress about shipping and if it will arrive on time but I was procrastinating and watching movies and series with @acidyo at the same time but it was all worth it. :p

Like i said, the deadline is so close that I'm not even sure if this will be able to arrive on time for the exhibit but I didn't regret anything and whatever happens, happens. :D

The Painting

Welcome Back! by Vyankka.jpg

Welcome Back!
acrylic on canvas
127cm x 198.12cm
2022

Dreams have become my escape in the recent times. Sometimes they are good but often they are stressful and turn into nightmares. They are always vivid and I often find myself in the chasing-running situations. Because of this, I was able to learn things on how to handle them better and now I am not afraid of dreaming and even when seeing the ugliest and scariest-looking creature in my dreams. :D

This painting talks about my dreams and each thing has a dream reference. They were some of the scenes that scared me or really intrigued me. I am establishing dominance by painting them. So yeah, scare me now and in return I will paint about it and take advantage of the situation. :P

Also I painted this without planning that much because I don't want it to "make sense". Characters are in random order and aren't really doing anything specific or obvious since I want it to be very random. Dreams don't make sense, even so very random.

This was one of the most enjoyable paintings I've done especially I've discovered some other acrylic mediums and techniques along the way. I hope you like it as much as I do!

This painting is amazing!

I was really enjoying the flowy-dripping effect with my acrylic that I overdid it

LOL - I cannot imagine why -= dripping - really - hahahaha - never ever has that happened to me! Just watching where those drips of paint flow and find a way is sooo intriguing, right?

I am glad that you and acidyo are having a good time all the while you are making your art - good stuff! I am happy for you both.

I do hope your painting makes it to Paris in time - close to Mona Lisa - oh my!!!!

That was Superb artwork! Sheesh!

 last year

Thank you! :D

Hola, entre a tu perfil y me encantó lo que haces, te felicito por tu habilidad para realizar esas obras

Greetings, I hope you are well, I am pleased to know that I am connected with an incredible artist, what a beautiful picture you have shown in this post, I really liked how it was, what a good study you have to be creative, that is very important, really that is very important for everything to flow very well at the time, to create, I will dare to dig more in your post, happy day.

Reppin the Philippines! Go @hiddenblade !

Thank you! Let's goooo

It's incredible! There's so many elements to this... I feel like I could look at it so many times and still find new interesting bits to see. Well done! I can't imagine how long this must have taken...

Nice to hear you find it interesting! If we remove the other times I was procrastinating, it won't take 3 weeks lol.

Nice one

Thank you!

You're welcome
Have a lovely day 💐

Very nice, and such a big picture that makes it even more incredible.

Thank you! Yeah it was also really a fun experience painting on a big canvas, like more fun than smaller ones. :D

That is absolutely awesome! But I can't help wandering.....

How the fuck are you going to get it to Paris?!! Strap some engines on it ?

In all seriousness, what an incredible personal achievement and how wonderful that the wider world gets to see some real Philippines talent on show.

I hope you and the fella are able to get over there to see it hanging :-)

I removed the canvas from the frame and rolled it and put it in the box! I will write another post about it haha. Thank you!! We will not be going this time, too much visa processing that I don't want to deal with. Besides, it already flew so now we just have to wait. :D

This looks really great. I can't draw and I respect everyone who can, especially those who can draw such wonderful things. Even if I tried for 3 months, not 3 weeks, I couldn't draw anything like this. There's an artist in you. I hope you participate in the exhibition and it will be great.

Thank you! It takes a lot of time to practice, I have been drawing since I was a kid so it helped. :D I'm sure you can do it too but it takes a lot of dedication as well

I'm sure I can draw better things, but I can't be as good as you. I know I don't have that talent 😂.

works of high value, talent that not many others have.

Thank you very much!

This kinda looks like an artist-stock-photo. :D

Haha, yeah, completely!! But a cool one!

Wow, the painting is awesome, a collage of dreams 🤩 and finishing it in three weeks is just great. 👍

Hahah thank you! Acrylic painting can really speed up the process since it dries fast! :D

Maybe it's because it dries fast, but what I meant is that you were really hardworking and efficient so finished this giant in that short time 🚀 (taking into account the procrastination part too 😁)

Awesome stuff! Look at you rocking it 😎
Let's hope that shipping goes extra smooth! That must have been a whole other (and whole) job on its own! Affordable shipping usually goes to like a max of 90cm, right? Really curious about that!

Yeah!! I'm still confident with DHL but hopefully there's gonna be no problem with customs. :D I didn't think about how the shipping would be costly since the package was just light, turns out they care mostly about the dimensions 😆 Maybe next time I won't dare making big-ass paintings especially if I'm shipping it to the other side of the world.

Shipping cost me $570 which is frankly a bit unexpected but within my price range anyway (cos was preparing for the worst lol). And yeah even on their website there's only 120cm limit when calculating costs yourself... so yeah I guess anything above that you'll have to go to their branch to have it checked in person.

I wish I could see your artwork in person... o... wait...

I like the fact that with this piece of art you were learning new techniques to compliment your work

Brilliant and another masterpiece in my eyes :)

Thank you! It was really a nice experience. :D

You have a very distinctive and personal style, this is a fundamental aspect for every artist. Congratulations on your art, very interesting work.

Thank you! It wasn't easy to find my style but I'm happy I found it along the way. :D

Amazing stuff. This is so cool. You are amazing

Thank you so much for the kinds words! :D

IMG_0010.jpg

Aaaww, thank you very much for the sweet words! I am happy you love the colors, I love them as well and I didn't really think much of the color palette and just went with the flow. Happy it turned out well.

The mountains in the background was a bit struggle for me to come up with and to look good for the overall composition. If you look at this image, it looked distracting so I had to paint over it with the final and so glad you love it as well!

Have a great day!

Look at that, now that's some proper talent and experience in the works. Love it 🥃☮️

Thank you!!

Great painting, and fun to see it evolve. I like the story behind it, your own dreams…
Always great when one finds new techniques and mediums along the way. I love that process and also mix techniques and mediums.
Success with the exhibition 🤞🏻😎
Thanks for sharing, have a wonderful day today 👋🏻☀️

Super great! I'm so glad internet is accessible and it was easy for me to research mediums. I hated acrylic before for its really fast drying behavior but I love it so much now. Thank you very much! You have a wonderful day ahead as well :D

Yes, you are right we can search the internet now and get all the information we need.
Although I just start a new medium and find out how to use it by just painting and finding the best way for me. I don’t really always follow the common ways hehehe 🤭

Have you tried Gouache? I just love it. As you can reactivate it with water on your underground.
You can use layers in your top layers and even move it around. It has also a velvety look to it. Which I love.
I did a few paintings where I combined parts of it in gouache with other parts in acrylics. Works well.
You are welcome. Enjoy your Wednesday @hiddenblade 👋🏻☀️😊

Wow, I'm amazed! Keep going and more post about your painting @hiddenblade

Thank you!

Wow that's awesome! Love the process and the result. Good luck for the exhibition!

Wow I have never seen such a detailed piece! Very nice work! I like the lack of faces it seems to send a bold message!

Thank you very much! Indeed they have meanings. :D although... it started with me getting lazy with painting faces hahaha until it became my style :D

LMAO! Thats funny! Great work, I look forward to seeing your next project! ... Lazy is sometimes the best way to work.... js :)

Sooo beautiful! I really like this, the size, elements, colors, everything's incredible!😊

That’s a very beautiful piece and a very big painting!! You must be a very patient artist! That’s a quality that I admire a lot!!

Sometimes I am patient, sometimes I am not hahah. Thank you so much!

Oh wow!!! It's my first time seeing an acrylic painting honestly. Or maybe I did without knowing what it is. This is beautiful. Glad you finished... I saw this on Twitter and just had to drop in. I'm glad I did. Just how I find myself in writing, you do in painting.

Thank you! Yes you probably saw a lot of paintings using acrylic, I think it is one of the used mediums (if not top 1 used) by artists. Happy to find a fellow creative like you :D

😁❤️❤️

Incredible works of art and you do a great job of documenting it all.

Thank you! Always fun to document and compile them in a post. Even I can get an overall look of the progress and it's fun. :D

Thank you!

An insane amount of work has been put into this. Love it. You are so talented @hiddenblade.

Thank you so much :D

This can only be talents. Kudos

Thank you!

I love the cover faces and the whole general idea. I also paint and when it gets stressful I said ¿what's the point exactly? So I left it and came back later when I clarify my mind. This is amazing darling, congratulations.

That is a nice way to clear your mind, really. :D Sometimes our eyes get tired and our brains get used to the look of the painting that we forget some important detail - that technique always worked at least in my experience. Thank you so much!
