Hoy les traigo un dibujo de un personaje sacado de las entrañas de mi cuaderno de bocetos. Se trata de una especie de monstruo, dibujado muy al estilo de esas viejas caricaturas, y que intenta sonreír mostrando los dientes de su rostro deformado. Sé que sonreír hace que las personas se vean más bonitas, pero desafortunadamente no es el caso de este extraño amiguito.

Today I bring you a drawing of a character taken from the bowels of my sketchbook. It is about a kind of monster, drawn very much in the style of those old cartoons, and that tries to smile showing the teeth of its deformed face. I know that smiling makes people look prettier, but unfortunately this is not the case with this strange little friend.
Este es un dibujo hecho a boligrafo sobre papel. Se pueden lograr innumerables cosas con un simple bolígrafo; Es una herramienta de dibujo muy versátil. Ahora les hablaré un poco sobre el proceso.
Proceso
Materiales. Lo bueno de dibujar a bolígrafo es que son baratos y fáciles de conseguir. Los materiales para mi ilustración fueron:
- Bolígrafo negro (los baratos funcionan bien).
- Hoja de papel blanco tamaño carta.
- Lápiz, goma de borrar y sacapuntas (para el boceto).
This is a pen drawing on paper. Countless things can be accomplished with a simple pen; It is a very versatile drawing tool. Now I will tell you a little about the process.
Process
Materials. The good thing about drawing in pen is that they are cheap and easy to get. The materials for my illustration were:
- Black ballpoint pen (cheap ones work fine).
- Letter size white sheet of paper.
- Pencil, eraser and sharpener (for the sketch).
Boceto. Lo primero que hice fue esbozar el personaje a lápiz. Creo que esto es importante para tener una buena guía a la hora de dibujar con bolígrafo, ya que una vez que haces un trazo con este no hay vuelta atrás. Este fue el boceto que hice a lápiz:
Sketch. The first thing I did was sketch the character in pencil. I think this is important to have a good guide when drawing with a pen, since once you make a stroke with it there is no going back. This was the sketch I did in pencil:
Dibujo a bolígrafo. Voy dibujando por zonas y empiezo por la parte de arriba de la cabeza, haciendo trazos para dar forma a esos ojos, la nariz en la frente, las orejas y el sombrerito.
Pen drawing. I am drawing by areas and start at the top of the head, making strokes to shape those eyes, the nose on the forehead, ears and the little hat.
Seguí trabajando de arriba hacia abajo el personaje. Terminé de dibujar la mandíbula, sus dientes, las mejillas elásticas y los brazos que las están tirando. Hice los trazos de tal manera que agregaran algo de volumen a la ilustración.
I continued working from top to bottom the character. I finished drawing the jaw, its teeth, the elastic cheeks and the arms that are pulling them. I made the strokes in such a way as to add some volume to the illustration.
Es hora de dibujar el torso, los pantalones (muy al estilo Disney por cierto) y los tres ojos que brotan de su cuerpo.
It's time to draw the torso, the pants (very Disney style by the way) and the three eyes that sprout from his body.

Ahora borro los trazos de lápiz restantes del boceto, para que el dibujo quede más limpio. Termino retocando algunas zonas, añadiendo algunas sombras en el suelo y mi firma. El resultado final es el de la primera imagen mostrada en esta publicación.

Now I erase the remaining pencil strokes of the sketch, to make the drawing cleaner. I finish by retouching some areas, adding some shadows on the floor and my signature. The final result is that of the first image displayed in this publication.
