Upcycling traditional furniture through creative design

in OnChainArt2 years ago

Hey there!

Today (like everyday) I was working on the preparations of our new boutique hotel at Blaka Beach in Naxos Island in Greece.

Recently, Plaka Beach has been selected by many prestigious international magazines as one of the three top Beaches in Greece, which is a good coincidence with my opening. However, it has raised the pressure for me, to deliver something worthy.

It has been my aspiration that Sea Lilies Suites will host mine and my mother's (@sofi-m) art, but it's also going to be a curated environment where everything in the suites will have some thought behind it.

For our furniture, I was looking for a balanced mix of traditional and eclectic modern design, using natural materials and upcycling solid wooden furniture. In the process, I have discovered a new interest in design and decoration.

Today, I'm going to show you how I upcycled a classic traditional dining table into my own design table, lightening up its mood and warming it's colors.

This is the end result;

The original table was this one;

It was rather dark for a beach house, but it is solid wood and very expensive too. So, instead of buying a new one and contributing to enviromental damage, I decided to scrub it and bring out its natural colors. Since, we are on the beach front, I designed some waves on the surface.

Then I used a water based wood finish.
