The journey continues as I explore these terrain generation software. I'm feeling like Gaea is the clear winner, but I can't really say as I'm a noob in both Gaea and World Creator. I think what I can say definitively is that Gaea is easier to get a really nice result out of the box without needing much additional instruction. Things just seem to work and that's one of the best things to find in this sort of software.

Here I did all the post work in Photoshop again. Adding atmosphere and the sky, a bit of color correction and touch ups here and there. At some point I'll use this to make something a bit more creative, but I'm in this zone right now where I'm just geeking out over the tools. I also don't know that much about geology so I'm a bit ignorant on how landscapes come to look the way that they look and the anatomy of it all. Seems like a pretty deep rabbit hole you could fall into.

Anyway, that's it for today's musings. Happy New Year! Hopefully this year will suck a lot less than the last year.

Excellent design and handling of the software, you do it very well!

It's absolutely a deep rabbit hole you could fall into. I did some very shallow research when I started my project and now I feel like I don't know a lot more than I did previously and just know a lot more about how much I don't know which means the amount that I don't know I don't know is going to be phenomenal XD

Though I guess with this kind of thing it's how much you need to be accurate, how much you want to impress people that have some idea of what's going on or how much you want it to just look good? XD

Seems like this generator does make some really nice terrains. Had a quick look at the website as I haven't tried this one and looks like it's Windows only so I guess I'll be trying to do something similar in Blender.

I wonder if it's one of those things where people may not be able to articulate what looks wrong about something, but can tell that something is wrong, like the uncanny valley of landscapes. But maybe we aren't as sensitive to that as we are to peoples faces so it doesn't even matter.

I do sort of feel a little bit of it though. I'm looking at it and definitely thinking that it looks cool, but does it look real? Hmm, not really.

Thanks for sharing
