Hello hivers, it's me again, @memwuai, and another hello anotjer blog and another blog with other memories that I can share with you guys.
Its raining here in Cebu, and this is what I enjoy when it rains because we can go outside and bond with my niece and also my cousin by playing outside while it rains. It is also one of my childhood memories, and I really want to experience it again with another.
Me and my cousins pump our plastic pool and put water in it so we could swim, and I love when I see them happy, especially my niece, because I want her to experience what I experience when my age is like her. They are happily swimming, and my brother also joins them, and I stop a little bit because we go to the colon to buy some bread for our snacks because when it is raining, we love to eat always.
When we have already arrived at our home, it is very fitting that my niece stop for a couple minutes. That is why she invited me to play hide and seek with her, and I said yes because I also love to play hide and seek, and she is very cute because she is hiding and covering her eyes in the back of the foam.
While me and my niece are playing hide and seek, my auntie gets a malonggay leaf, also called a moringa, for our dinner. As a girl who lives in the mountains, it is the easiest way to get food when you are in a rush to cook and don't have time to go to the city or any mall to buy something, and it is one of the benefits when you live in the province or in the mountain.
My boy cousins also came up with the idea to cook a puso ng saging, or, in English, we called it the heart of the banana,or banana blossom because it is yummy to eat, especially when it is rainy season.
The "puso ng saging" or banana blossom offers a multitude of health benefits. Rich in dietary fiber, it aids digestion and helps in preventing constipation. This flower is packed with essential nutrients like vitamins A, C, and E, which bolster the immune system and contribute to overall skin health. Additionally, it contains antioxidants that help fight free radicals, reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Banana blossoms are also known to regulate menstrual cycles and alleviate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Their high magnesium content supports heart health and helps in managing diabetes by controlling blood sugar levels. Including puso ng saging in your diet can promote overall well-being and enhance your nutritional intake.
While waiting for it to cook, I am the one who will watch my niece, and I do not want her to watch YouTube because I want to have some time with her. That is why we decided to play a plastic balloon, which we both enjoyed.
Here in our place, it was so cold due to the rain, and it is already starting to fog.
And after how many minutes of waiting, my auntie already called us, and we ate dinner so early☺️.
As I wrap up this blog, reminiscing about these moments fills me with warmth. The rain-soaked days in Cebu are more than just weather; they're a canvas for cherished memories. Watching my niece and cousins play joyfully, splashing in a makeshift pool, echoes my own childhood delights. These simple pleasures, like fetching moringa leaves for dinner or cooking banana blossoms, highlight the beauty of provincial life. Amidst the cool mist and the scent of rain, time slows down, allowing for precious connections and laughter. And as we gather for an early dinner, the day feels complete, brimming with contentment and the promise of more rainy day adventures to come. Reflecting on these experiences reminds me of the value in slowing down, savoring each moment, and finding joy in the simplest of things. Here's to many more rainy days filled with laughter, family, and the comfort of home.
And let us put it into our mind also that banana blossoms, locally known as puso ng saging, are not only delicious but also packed with nutritional benefits. They are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals like potassium and vitamin C, which support heart health and boost the immune system. Incorporating banana blossoms into our meals not only satisfies our taste buds but also promotes a healthy lifestyle. Beyond their nutritional value, these blossoms are versatile in Filipino cuisine, adding a unique texture and flavor to dishes like salads, stews, and even vegan "fish" dishes. Culturally significant, they represent sustainability and the bounty of nature, reflecting our connection to the land and our culinary traditions. As we enjoy these meals together, let's appreciate the wisdom passed down through generations and the nourishment provided by the earth. Embracing puso ng saging in our diet is a celebration of health, culture, and the joys of sharing good food with loved ones.
