My First Time playing Saturday Hivechess

Hi there to you game lovers and now chess fans,

Welcome to my blog, where I talk about the games I play and my experience while playing them. Like I mentioned in my last chess post I defeated a 2200 player in Lichess, I will be playing chess often as I am now fond of the game and I would like to improve as well, so I will play more games.

Today is Saturday, and you know the usual for me: when it is the weekend, it is gaming time. I do not joke with my weekend, especially when I do not have much work to do. I just sit back and do some gaming, coupled with I have missed about two weeks of gaming due to work, I will try not to miss more.

I got the notification for the HiveChess weekly tournament in my Lichess inbox. At first, I thought it was the usual notification from @stayoutoftherz about Team chess battle, but to my surprise, it was from someone else, ZGM_samostically. I wonder what the ZGM in his username stands for?

I joined the event when it was about 20 minutes to start, or something around that time, I do not remember. When I joined, I think there were only 10 or fewer than 20 players who were already registered for the tournament. With the few people in the tournament arena, I thought there wouldn't be many players participating. But to my fullest surprise again, more players came trooping in, and when I am referring to more players, I am talking about good players with a higher elo rating than mine. I think these players are PROs.

Now you can see the top 10 players, they are quite good. If I am not mistaken, I think I lost to most of them I got paired against. The worst part is they berserked me as well and still wooped my ass. Through the beating, I discovered Berserk means to use half of your time for more points.

I even tried it out when it was like 30 minutes to the end of the tournament, but pre-move was not nice to me. There was a game where I even gave out a free queen when I was trying to be fast because I berserked my opponent.

Premoved into a bad move

I brought out my bishop, thinking my opponent would have captured the middle pawn with his pawn, so I could give I a check when he does that. Oh no, that wasn't how it turned out. After I played the blunderous move, I could not muster the courage to continue since my queen had been captured. How can I win after that?

Also, I won a game with Berserk as well, where my opponent gave me a free queen, unluckily, I saw it, unlike some games that I hardly see these things.

A free Queen

I would say my most interesting game was against a player called TheMadman4rmDaSouth, which explains why the game was quite confusing in my eyes. Pieces were everywhere but I could tell you he wanted to run away with his king because of the numerous times he moved it, until I played my Knight to a good place.

What a loyal knight

The tournament was truly challenging for me, given that I lost to a lot of PRO players, but I was still amazed by how I came in at 11th position despite the tough field. Anyways, it was nice to play, and I will be playing more often. I think playing with these guys would help improve my chess.
