House Fire in My Neighbourhood

A few days ago, my dog woke me up in the morning as usual. After waking up together with him and feeding him, I heard a fire engine. My dog reacts a lot to the siren. He howls at the sound. I tried to make him quiet because my husband was still resting due to his night shift.

However, I heard more fire engines. After waiting for the sound for a while, I took my dog out for his morning outside time. And then, I saw more fire engines. 'Hmm..., this is unusual,' I thought.

I saw an ambulance as well. My dog was barking and howling at those trucks. It was still early morning, so I took him inside quickly. My husband awoke earlier because of the noise. We were wondering how big the fire was. I think we saw 7-8 fire engines. My husband recognized that those fire engines were from many different towns. Usually, fire engines are volunteers in this area. We also saw 2-3 ambulances. Wow...this is a very rare situation.

We needed to go out this morning, so we left home without checking the news. On the way to town, we saw some fire engines getting water from the river near the farm. We noticed that they are facing a pretty big fire incident.

After coming back from town, I read the news. Yes, it was a pretty big fire incident in my neighbourhood. I guess it takes a few minutes to get there by car from my place. I shivered. The news headline said '2 people in hospital after a house fire.' I hope those two people are safe. It was probably because of a propane gas accident. Those two victims jumped from the second floor. The fire totally burned their house, unfortunately. Phew, this fire accident reminded me of my old memory...

When I was very young, I was staying at the hospital to have surgery. One day, I heard the ambulance siren after midnight. I was a bit scared because I was alone without my family in my hospital room. I couldn't sleep well last night.

The next day, I heard that someone had come to the hospital after a big fire because of a propane gas accident. I still remember that the patient was badly burned and needed extensive surgery. I felt sorry for the man because he lost most of his facial skin, including his arms and body. That's why I am scared of a propane gas accident. Hopefully, my neighbours recover from their injuries as soon as possible.

近所の家の火災

数日前、私の犬がいつものように起こしてくれました。一緒に起きて餌をあげると、消防車の音が聞こえてきました。私の犬はサイレンの音に異常に反応して遠吠えをします。主人が夜勤の後で寝ていたので静かにさせようとしました。

ところが、消防車の音が次々と聞こえてくるのです。しばらく音がおさまるまで待ってから、犬を外に連れ出しました。なんと、さらに消防車がやってきました。「うーん、これは只事ではなさそうです」

救急車もやってきました。私の犬は消防車と救急車に向かって遠吠えをし始めました。まだ朝早めで遠吠えがあまりにもうるさいので、犬を家の中に素早く入れました。外の騒ぎで主人の目が覚めてしまったようで起きてきました。かなり大きな火事なのではないかと想像していました。トータルで７−８台の消防車を見ました。主人が言うには、近隣の町の名前が消防車に入っていたのが見えたそうです。このあたりの町の消防車はだいたいボランティアです。さらに２−３台の救急車も見ました。かなり嫌な予感がしました。

この日の午前中は出かける予定があったので、ニュースを見ずに出発しました。町に行く途中で、いく台かの消防車が川から水の給水している光景を見かけました。やはり大きな火事だったのでしょう。

用事を済ませて帰宅してからニュースを読みました。やはり、近所でかなり大きな火事があったようです。家から車で数分の家が火事になったようで、身震いしました。「火災で２名が入院」というニュースの見出しが目に飛び込んできました。おそらくプロパンガスによる火災だったようです。そのお二人は２階から飛び降りて無事に逃げ出せたようですが、残念ながら家は全焼だったようです。ふう、火事は昔の記憶を思い出します。

小さい頃、私は手術を受けるために病院に入院していました。ある日、夜中過ぎに急患を運び込む救急車の音が聞こえてきました。家族の付き添いもなく一人で病室にいたので、少し怖かったのを覚えています。その日はあまり眠れませんでした。

翌日、プロパンガスの爆発事故による火災で患者さんが運ばれてきたのだと言うことを誰かに聞きました。今でも鮮明に覚えていますが、その患者さんは皮膚の火傷の手術をなん度も繰り返していました。彼は顔中の皮膚、腕、体の皮膚を損傷していました。ですから、プロパンガスの事故は私にとってとても怖いのです。近所のお二人が一刻も早く回復することを願います。
