My Dog Is Pretty Independent
My dog, Dude, has become more mature over the years. He was very naughty when he was young. He destroyed almost all of his first toys and bit our sofa, table, bed, desk, and more.
When we got him, we didn't have his cage. We thought we would be okay without it. However, he kept on destroying our furniture, which was very dangerous. Then, we got him a huge cage, but it became a huge stress for him.
We didn't want him to stay inside the cage for too long, but we struggled with our training style. It wasn't his fault. It was our issue. We took him for a walk twice a day from a young age, so his exercise was adequate. However, he kept on attacking our household equipment.
One day, when we invited our friends over, he was so excited and already quite big. We were afraid he might attack our friend who needed to use a walking stick. We didn't want Dude to jump on our friend. Then, feeling sorry, we put him in the cage during our friend's visit. At that time, we were considering getting rid of the cage.
After our friend left, he gave us a letter and advised us to get rid of the cage. Our friend supported our feelings. We got rid of the cage immediately after reading the letter. Sadly, our friend passed away due to old age. He was our elder, a life teacher, a cool artist, and a friend.
Nowadays, Dude is very mature and quite independent. However, he still does some small naughty things. In this photo, he was checking our closet and making his naughty face in the morning.
He can stay home when we go shopping. He often checks the window when we leave and watches for us to come home from the dining room window. He looks a bit nervous in this photo. This face reminds me of Gromit from 'Wallace and Gromit.'
He looks like an angel when he sleeps. Did you see the damage on the cushion? Yes, of course, he still has his naughty side, as you can see through his eyes.

私の犬はかなり自立しています
私の犬のドュードはここ数年でかなり自立してきた様子です。小さい頃はものすごくやんちゃでした。初めの頃のおもちゃはほとんど破壊して、ソファー、テーブル、自分のベッド、机などを噛んでぐちゃぐちゃにしました。
彼を飼い始めた当初、犬用のケージはありませんでした。なくても大丈夫だろうと思っていました。ところが、家具を次々に破壊するので危険を感じケージを購入しましたが、そこに入るのがかなりストレスになったようです。
ケージの中に長い間入れておくことは本意ではありませんでしたので、しつけの方法に悩んでいました。これは犬のせいではなく、飼い主側の問題です。小さい頃から１日に２回きちんと散歩に連れて行っていたので十分な運動はできていました。でも、相変わらず家の中のものを破壊する行動が続きました。
ある日、友人たちを家に招いたことがあり、その頃にはドュードはかなり大きくなっていました。家に誰かがやってくるとものすごく興奮します。杖をついて歩く友人に飛びついたりしないかどうかものすごく心配でした。そして申し訳なく思いながら、友人がいる間だけケージに入れたのでした。それはちょうど、もうケージをやめたいと思っていた頃のことでした。
その友人は帰宅してからわざわざお手紙をくださって、犬をケージに入れるのをやめるようにアドバイスしてくださいました。友人の言葉が私たちの迷いを一気に取り払ってくれました。その手紙を読んでから速攻でケージを処分しました。悲しいことに、その友人はその後亡くなりました。彼は私たちの先輩で、素敵なアーティストで、人生の先生で、友人でした。
最近では、ドュードはすっかり大人っぽくなり自立しています。ただ、いまだに小さなイタズラをします。この写真の中の顔も、朝にクローゼットを物色して悪い顔をしているところです。
私たちが買い物に出るときは大人しく留守番していてくれます。家を出る時と帰宅した時に、台所の窓からのぞいてこちらをみています。この写真のドュードはちょっと緊張気味です。 この顔は「ウォレスとグルミット」のグルミットに似ているといつも思います。
寝ている時は天使のようですが…、クッションのダメージが見えますか？そうです、いまだにまだまだ目の奥にイタズラをする別の顔を隠し持っているのです。
