Hi Hivers!

This is my first post to The Anime Realm community in 3 years, and I'm really super psyched to see this community up and buzzing on my return to Hive. When I was active on Hive 3 years ago, I'd made 2 posts on this community, but the community was not as active then as it is now, so I'm really happy to see it very active now.
Since I've been away for a while, I thought I'd reintroduce myself—although I've already done a Reintroduction post on my blog—to the anime community: and what better way to do that than to tell y'all about my top 3 animes, eh?
So, who am I?
My name is Dr. Harry-E and I'm a Dentist in Nigeria who loves anime.

Simple and Sweet no?
Without further ado, let's dive right into my top 3 animes.
My TOP 3 Animes
Before I begin, I'd like to state that my ranking and reasons for selection are peculiar to me, and I definitely do not expect everyone to agree with them. However, what I do expect is for you all to acknowledge them. Why? Because, well, even if they're not your Top 3, you have to admit that these are some of the greatest anime to grace our screens!!
Let's get right into it.
#3. Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin.
Come on guys. Everyone knows what a great anime Attack on Titan is. Do I even need to say much?

I started Attack on Titan back in high school when the first season dropped in 2013.
For those who haven't watched it, Attack on Titan starts out as a survival story—humans trapped behind giant walls, trying not to get eaten by terrifying humanoid creatures called Titans. In the first episode, one of the walls is broken down by two bizzare Titans, and this kickstarts one of the greatest anime stories ever told.
The first season follows Eren Yeager, a young boy who develops an immense hatred for Titans due to tragic events of his past, and his two childhood friends, Mikasa and Armin as they join the military to fight Titans and try to uncover what’s really going on outside the walls, and the mystery behind the Titans.
Season 2 was a bit slow after how hyped Season 1 was, but then the plot twists began to roll in—and boyyy! were there a lot of them. This series has some of the best plot twists ever, but I won't be spoiling it for those who haven't watched (God knows I wish I could go back to watch AOT from the beginning without any prior knowledge of it).

As the series progresses, Eren transforms from a vengeful teen into one of the most controversial protagonists I’ve ever seen. The character development of other characters was also top notch and in fact, this anime has some amazing characters like Levi, Erwin, Sasha, Hange, and more.

The soundtrack is another iconic aspect of this anime, and as someone who loves movie/anime soundtracks, this is one that really stuck with me. Altogether, AOT is one of the best anime out there and that's why it's #3 on my Top 3 list.
#2. Hunter X Hunter.
There are few anime that feel like home to me the way Hunter x Hunter does. I wasn't old enough to fully understand it when I first watched the 1999 version as a kid, but it stuck in my mind—the way it looked, the music, the weirdness, and especially Gon and Killua Zoldyck from the family of assassins (especially that scene where he ripped out that dude's heart). I didn’t get all the details, but I felt the emotion.
Years later, after the 2011 version had started airing for a while, I decided to watch it again; this time with clearer eyes and a better grip on the story. It hit me like a wave of nostalgia, but also revealed just how much I’d missed the first time around.

Source
Hunter X Hunter starts with Gon Freecss leaving his island to take the Hunter exam and become a Hunter in order to find his dad, Ging, who is also a Hunter, who left him—in the care of his aunt and grandmother—to travel the world. During the exam he makes 3 friends, Killua, Kurapika and Leorio, and passing through all the hurdles, they eventually become hunters.
The series follows Gon's journey to become stronger, help his friends and ultimately find his dad. Each arc actually feels like a whole new genre, and as the series progresses, it transforms from the regular shonen "power, adventure and friendship" to something darker, more mature, and more philosophical.
The power system and power scaling are one of the best in anime—you can't talk about best power systems in anime without bringing up Nen—and the soundtrack as well is amazing (I can literally sing every song word for word!).
Unfortunately, it’s unfinished. And that really does hurt. As someone who doesn’t read manga, there’s a strange emptiness knowing that Gon’s story (and Kurapika’s, and Leorio’s) may never be fully told on screen because the writer had to stop due to health issues. Nevertheless, this is a great anime even though at the end it leaves you wanting more.

#1. One Piece.

Duh.
This, to me, is the greatest anime, to ever grace the face of this earth, and heck, it might even be the greatest piece of fiction to exist!
My elder brother first introduced me to One Piece back in 2016 when he was watching it, and I saw a few episodes. He loved it. I wasn’t fully sold. Over 700 episodes at the time? No thanks. But during lockdown, with nowhere to go to and nothing to do, I decided to start it. and mann!! That decision changed how I look at stories—and honestly, how I look at life. It changed my entire life to be honest.

I already wrote a full review of One Piece 3 years ago, but to quickly recap:
One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy, a rubber-powered, big-hearted idiot (in the best way possible) who has a dream to become the Pirate King. But being the Pirate King isn’t about treasure or power—it’s about freedom. Freedom to go anywhere, do anything, and live with no regrets. Luffy sails the Grand Line gathering a crew of misfits—each of them having their own dream—and together on their way to make Luffy the Pirate King, as well as achieve their own dreams, they take on corrupt governments, warlords, and, at some point, literal gods.

Source
But for me, the beauty of this anime is not just the plot—it’s the spirit of the show that hits the hardest. Watching Luffy chase his dream without hesitation, lift people up without judgment, and smile stupidly through it all—it genuinely makes me happy to my core.
The World building is masterful and the world of One Piece is massive, colorful, and full of wild ideas: sky islands, talking reindeer, living ships, underwater cities. And let's not even get started on the plot and foreshadowing. But what really grounds this show is the heart. The Straw Hat crew isn’t just a team—they’re a family, built on loyalty, laughter, and shared pain and experiences.
There are moments in One Piece that made me cry (the Going Merry farewell), scream (Gear Second reveal), and just sit in awe (the entire Marineford arc). And then there are the little moments—"Nothing Happened.", “I want to live!”, "Without you, I can't become the Pirate King!". UGH!!!! It's truly amazing.

Source
Of course, the major issue most people have with it is the episode count—as at writing this, it is 1127 episodes in. Yes, it’s long. Really long. And yes, the pacing drags sometimes. However, if you can look past that—or better yet, lean into it—you’ll find one of the richest, most rewarding stories anime has to offer. Peak fiction for real!

So, these are my top 3 anime:
AOT at #3; HxH at #2; One Piece at #1.
Like I said at the start, this is my personal ranking, so you might not agree with it. But honestly, if you don't think these are some of the best animes to exist, then maybe you just have bad taste!
I hope to write more in this community. I might even begin a Weekly One Piece episode review. Let's see what the future holds.
In the meantime...
Do you agree with my list?
If not, what are your top 3 animes?

Welcome back! Great to see you hyped about the community's activity after 3 years! 🎉
The anime you listed here are the most popular anime of the present time. I have not seen any of these animes but I really liked the first two animes and I have put them on my favorites list but One Piece anime has many more episodes which is why I have not seen it but this anime is really amazing. Good review.
You have really great taste in animations or anime. From those that you mentioned, Hunter x hunter will always be my number 1 when I was still a child. I remembered just how dark it was yet I managed to have it as a childhood anime. The story about Gon , and Kihlua together is the best friendship and made me value friendship when I was young. Thank you for sharing you top 3 favourites. :)
Excellent picks, I really like Hunter X Hunter, it's a shame that the story is not finished.
Welcome back to this brilliant community! I’ll be keeping an eye out for your posts to spot any interesting anime recommendations. By the way, spot-on selection of series—a tad traditional, but solid choices! Though I must admit, I personally can’t stand AoT (Attack on Titan), haha!
