Can a story about a World War I-like seaplane pilot with a pig's face be entertaining and with a sentimental storyline? If it is a story created by studio Ghibli of course it can, following my goal of watching the films of studio Ghibli, this time I could appreciate Kurenai no Buta also known as Porco Rosso, a film even older than me because it dates from 1992, although even for having more than 3 decades, its visual quality as well as its soundtrack is very nice and has that unique nostalgic aspect, characteristic and that we are so passionate about studio Ghibli.
The story of this film is clearly inspired by the story of the red baron, for that reason the protagonist of this story Marco who everyone knows as Porco Rosso because of his curse with which he has the face of a pig, is a former pilot of the Italian air force at the time of the first world war and now with his red seaplane is known as the best pilot in the world of bounty hunters and air pirates, basically he is dedicated to take on air pirates or any other when they hire him and get paid for it, something interesting is the environment and the concept of life around Porco as well as the life itself of pirates and bounty hunters.
Although it seems that the pirates and Porco may hate each other because of their lifestyle, they all frequent a famous hotel in the middle of the sea known as the Adriano hotel where we meet Gina, a beautiful woman who besides singing is the star of the hotel and everyone is in love with her, a lifelong friend of Porco and who remembers him as he was before the curse, in this hotel everyone is neutral and no matter the possible conflicts, no one attacks each other in this place and they even seem to share all together.
The antagonist of the story will be Curtis, an American hired by the pirates and other groups to defeat Porco, there is the typical personality clash between Porco with a solitary aptitude, confident of his abilities, but at the same time indifferent to others, and Rosco who could be considered as the typical cartoon villain, confident, a little arrogant and has no doubts when it comes to attract attention and seek the admiration of all, even seeks directly and quickly the love of Giga and make her his wife, but soon discovers the old and tragic past of her. In the same way, after a couple of accidents we meet Fio Piccolo (if he has that unmistakable name in DBZ) who will be a 17 year old girl with a great talent for the manufacture and repair of seaplanes who will help Porco in his goal of fighting and defeating Curtis.
The development of the story is quite interesting and unexpected, Porco's adventure to repair his plane for his next aerial duel, his past in the Italian air force, some of the reasons why he is now a bounty hunter and several other aspects, although there are dramatic moments and the past of several characters is mentioned a little, the biggest doubt never ends to clarify and is the reason why Porco has that pig face when in several times it is mentioned that previously he did not have that appearance, it is also unexpected and very funny the attitude of all the pirates and the people of that world when it comes time for the final confrontation between Porco and Curtis, a very cartoonish twist indeed.
Something very peculiar and characteristic of this film is its incredible sountrack which besides having melodies that remind you a lot to the music of bands or street fairs, it is very extensive and practically in every scene there is a background music, there are very few moments where we do not have a musical accompaniment telling the events of the story and this far from being annoying, ends up being a very good addition and that makes you feel a great emotion and sense of calm and fun in every moment of the film. It is also interesting the relationship between all the members of the pirates and other characters in the film, despite seeming that everyone can hate each other, in the end they end up helping each other in a certain way and you feel that attitude a little childish perhaps, that no matter the conflicts of their work, in the end they all share and know how to be together without creating conflicts at all times.
The film also has a romantic aspect which besides being dramatic can be a bit comical and even in a way with an approach that today would surely be very criticized in social networks if this film came out today, although its ending can be gratifying and even happy for the characters, it still feels somewhat uncomfortable that never gave an explanation about the curse of Porco and even less is said if he managed to remove this curse and return to be as it was before, anyway Kurenai no Buta is a very entertaining classic film to watch.

¿Puede una historia sobre un Piloto de hidroaviones similares a los de la primera guerra mundial y con rosto de cerdo resultar entretenida y con historia sentimental?, si se trata de una historia creado por el estudio Ghibli por supuesto que sí, siguiendo con mi objetivo de ver las películas del estudio Ghibli, en esta ocasión pudo apreciar Kurenai no Buta también conocida como Porco Rosso, una película incluso mas antigua que yo debido a que data del año 1992, aunque incluso para tener mas de 3 décadas, su calidad visual así como su banda sonora es muy agradable y tiene ese aspecto nostalgia único, característico y que tanto nos apasiona del estudio Ghibli.
La historia de esta película claramente esta inspirada en la historia del barón rojo, por ese motivo el protagonista de esta historia Marco a quienes todos conocen como Porco Rosso debido a su maldición con la cual tiene rostro de cerdo, es un antiguo piloto de la fuerza área italiana en la época de la primera guerra mundial y ahora con su hidroavión rojo es conocido como el mejor piloto en el mundo de los cazarrecompensas y los piratas aéreos, básicamente se dedica a enfrentarse a los piratas aéreos o cualquier otro cuando lo contratan y cobrar por ello, algo interesante es el entorno y el concepto de vida alrededor de Porco así como la vida misma de los piratas y cazarrecompensas.
Aunque parece que los piratas y Porco se pueden odiar debido a su estilo de vida, todos ellos frecuentan un famoso hotel en medio del mar conocido como el hotel Adriano en donde conocemos a Gina, una hermosa mujer que además de cantar es la estrella del hotel y todo el mundo esta enamorado de ella, una amiga de toda la vida de Porco y que lo recuerda como era antes de la maldición, en este hotel todos son neutrales y no importa los posibles conflictos, nadie se ataca en este sitio y hasta parecen compartir todos juntos.
El antagonista de la historia será Curtis, un americano contratado por los piratas y demás grupos para poder vencer a Porco, se presenta el típico choque de personalidad entre Porco con una aptitud solitaria, confiado de sus habilidades, pero al mismo tiempo indiferente con los demás, y Rosco el cual se podría considerar como el típico villano de las caricaturas, confiado, un poco arrogante y que no tiene dudas al momento de llamar la atención y buscar la admiración de todos, incluso busca de forma directa y rápida el amor de Giga y volverla su esposa, pero pronto descubre el antiguo y trágico pasado de ella. Del mismo modo luego de un par de accidentes conocemos a Fio Piccolo (si tiene ese nombre inconfundible en DBZ) quien será una joven de 17 años con un gran talento para la fabricación y reparación de los hidroaviones quien ayudará a Porco en su objetivo de combatir y vencer a Curtis.
El desarrollo de la historia es bastante interesante e inesperado, la aventura de Porco por lograr reparar su avión para su próximo duelo aéreo, su pasado en la fuerza aérea italiana, algunos de los motivos del porque ahora se dedica a ser un cazarrecompensas y varios aspectos más, aunque hay momentos dramáticos y se menciona un poco el pasado de varios personajes, la mayor duda nunca se termina de aclarar y es el motivo por cual Porco tiene ese rostro de cerdo cuando en varias veces se menciona que anteriormente no contaba con esa apariencia, también resulta inesperado y muy divertida la actitud de todos los piratas y la gente de ese mundo cuando llega el momento del enfrentamiento final entre Porco y Curtis, un giro muy caricaturesco en verdad.
Algo muy peculiar y característico de esta película es su increíble sountrack el cual además de tener melodías que te recuerdan mucho a la música de bandas o a ferias ambulantes, el mismo es muy extenso y es que prácticamente en toda escena hay una música de fondo, son muy pocos los momentos donde no tenemos un acompañamiento musical contando los sucesos de la historia y esto lejos de resultar molesto, termina siendo un agregado muy bueno y que te hace sentir una emoción y sensación de calma y diversión muy grande en cada momento de la película. También es interesante la relación entre todos los integrantes de los piratas y demás personajes en la película, a pesar de parecer que todos se pueden odiar entre sí, al final se terminan ayudando de cierto modo y se siente esa actitud un poco infantil tal vez, de que no importa los conflictos de sus labores, al final todos comparten y saben estar juntos sin crear conflictos en todo momento.
La película también tiene un aspecto romántico el cual además de dramático puede ser un poco cómico y hasta de cierto modo con un enfoque que hoy seguramente seria muy criticado en las redes sociales si esta película saliera hoy en día, aunque su final puede resultar gratificante y hasta feliz para los personajes, no deja de sentirse algo incomodo que nunca se dio una explicación sobre la maldición de Porco e incluso mucho menos se dice si logro quitarse esta maldición y volver a ser como era antes, de igual manera Kurenai no Buta es una película clásica muy entretenida para ver.
