True to my goal of watching at least one anime movie on Sundays (my day off) in which I always include something from Ghibli, I decided to watch this time Ponyo, a movie that had been recommended to me before and after watching it I noticed that it has a lot of cultural, literary and musical references that I loved because they are out of the ordinary to what I have seen about Ghibli before...
Fiel a la meta que me propuse de ver al menos una película de anime los domingos (mi día libre) en los cuales siempre incluyo algo de Ghibli, decidí ver en esta ocasión Ponyo, una película que me habían recomendado antes y que luego de verla noté que tiene muchísimas referencias culturales, literarias y musicales que me encantaron porque se salen de lo común a lo que he visto sobre Ghibli anteriormente.
Overview/Resumen
A beautiful little fish lives practically as a prisoner of her father at the bottom of the sea, so she gets out of her environment and reaches the surface where she meets Sosuke, a five year old boy who rescues her and gives her the name of Ponyo, both start a beautiful friendship, and Sosuke discovers more and more fascinating features about his new friend, such as that she has magic, because when she licked a wound he had, she healed completely, and also noticed that Ponyo can say some words, however, Ponyo's father decides to recover her and does it somehow, taking her back to the bottom of the sea, however, after tasting human blood (through Sosuke's wound) Ponyo undergoes a metamorphosis, becoming more and more human until she becomes a five year old girl, however, when she returns with her friend Sosuke, she unleashes a debacle in the sea that ends up compromising the whole town.
Una hermosa pececita pez vive prácticamente como prisionera de su padre en el fondo del mar, así que sale de su entorno y llega a la superficie donde conoce a Sosuke, un niño de cinco años que la rescata y le da el nombre de Ponyo, ambos entablan una hermosísima amistad, y Sosuke va descubriendo cada vez más rasgos fascinantes sobre su nueva amiga, como que por ejemplo tiene magia, ya que al lamer una herida que él tenía, sanó por completo, y también notó que Ponyo puede decir algunas palabras, sin embargo, el padre de Ponyo decide recuperarla y lo hace de algún modo, llevándola nuevamente al fondo del mar, sin embargo, luego de haber probado la sangre humana (a través de la herida de Sosuke) Ponyo sufre una metamorfósis, cada vez se va volviendo más humana hasta convertirse en una niña de cinco años, sin embargo, cuando ella retorna junto a su amigo Sosuke, desata una debacle en el mar que termina comprometiendo a todo el pueblo.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
Ahhh! 😃 I don't even know where to start since absolutely everything I loved in this movie, I think I almost died of tenderness, I would dare to say that of all the Ghibli movies I've seen so far, this is the only one purely for children, that is, the others I've seen have a plot with a lot of depth and things that only an adult could analyze more accurately, but the plot of Ponyo is simple to understand for a child, it is sweet and tender, the film is full of innocence in its nuances as well as in the animation and the story, there are no confusing or violent facts, everything flows naturally but within a childish atmosphere 😊.
¡Ahhh! 😃 no sé ni por donde empezar ya que absolutamente todo me encantó en esta película, creo que casi morí de ternura, me atrevería a decir que de todas las películas Ghibli que he visto hasta ahora, esta es la única netamente para niños, es decir, las demás que he visto tienen una trama con mucha profundidad y cosas que solo un adulto podría analizar de forma más precisa, pero la trama de Ponyo es sencilla de comprender para un niño, es dulce y tierna, la película derrocha inocencia tanto en sus matices como en la animación y la historia, no hay hechos confusos ni violentos, todo fluye con naturalidad pero dentro de la una atmosfera infantil 😊.
For example, at the beginning of the movie there is a scene where we can see Ponyo trapped by one of the garbage that humans throw into the sea, and this is something completely true, one of the consequences of throwing garbage into the sea is that it compromises the integrity of the marine fauna, and this in turn eventually harms us humans.
Por otra parte desde luego que no podía faltar la lección sobre el cuidado de la naturaleza, por ejemplo, al inicio de la película hay una escena donde podemos ver a Ponyo atrapada por uno de los desechos que los humanos arrojan al mar, y esto es algo completamente cierto, una de las consecuencias de arrojar basura al mar es que compromete la integridad de la fauna marina, y esto a su vez eventualmente nos perjudica a los seres humanos.
There is one scene in particular that I loved for two reasons, not only for its animation, the neatness of the movements of the main character on screen (Ponyo) while running over the sea turned into huge fish, but for the musicalization of the scene, this inevitably reminded me of Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries (I love classical music 😍) and guess what? it turns out that when I set out to investigate about it I found that Miyasaki (the director of the film) was frustrated at the beginning because he did not find the essence of the film, he only had some ideas captured in drawings, but nothing more, so he decided to temporarily abandon the project and work on a new one, but one night while listening to The Ride of the Valkyries, he got the idea for the iconic scene that I already mentioned.
Hay una escena en particular que me encantó por dos razones, no solo por su animación, la prolijidad de los movimientos del personaje principal en pantalla (Ponyo) mientras corre sobre el mar devenido en enormes peces, sino por la musicalización de la escena, esto me recordó inevitablemente a la Cabalgata de las Valquirias de Wagner (es que me encanta la música clásica 😍) y ¿adivinen qué? resulta que cuando me propuse investigar al respecto encontré que Miyasaki (el director del film) estaba frustrado al inicio porque no encontraba la esencia de la película, solo tenía algunas ideas plasmadas en dibujos, pero nada más, por lo tanto decidió abandonar temporalmente el proyecto y trabajar en uno nuevo, pero una noche mientras escuchaba La Cabalgata de las Valquirias, le llegó la idea para la icónica escena que ya les mencioné.
But that's not all, there are many more references that I loved, for example Ponyo's mother is inspired by a portrait of Ophelia, from Hamlet, Ponyo's father in turn is inspired by Captain Nemo from 20 thousand leagues under the sea, and the most important of all is that the story is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, and you can notice this perfectly in the plot, a sea creature that is curious about the outside world and after meeting a human she wants to become one too so she can be with him, but we also notice it in one of the dialogues, when Fujimoto (Ponyo's father) tells his wife that the girl could end up turned into seafoam.
Pero eso no es todo, hay muchas más referencias que me encantaron, por ejemplo la madre de Ponyo está inspirada en un retrato de Ofelia, de Hamlet, el padre de Ponyo a su vez está inspirado en el capitán Nemo de 20 mil leguas de viaje submarino, y la más importante de todas es que la historia está ligeramente basada en La Sirenita de Hans Christian Andersen, y esto lo puedes notar perfectamente tanto en la trama, una criatura del mar que siente curiosidad por el mundo exterior y que luego de conocer a un humano quiere convertirse también en uno para poder estar junto a él, pero además, también lo notamos en uno de los diálogos, cuando Fujimoto (el padre de Ponyo) le dice a su esposa que la niña podría terminar convertida en espuma de mar.

This is the Ghibli movie that gave me more tenderness, the relationship between Ponyo and the boy is very sweet and very empathetic and leaves us a clear message of care and conservation of marine life, which very little is being taken care of lately and it is a real shame 😢
It has many references to other literature apparently, I didn't know about Captain Nemo haha and I read 20 thousand leagues, but I didn't catch the reference 😂
