Hoy quiero hablarles de una de mis películas favoritas, en japonés もののけ姫 Mononoke Hime, la Princesa Mononoke es un film de 1997 realizado por Studio Ghibli, dirigida por el exitoso Hayao Miyazaki.
No les daré spoilers, sólo un breve análisis de una historia llena de magia y aventura que cautiva en todos los sentidos ❤️
Today I want to talk to you about one of my favorite movies, in Japanese もののけ姫 Mononoke Hime, Princess Mononoke is a 1997 film made by Studio Ghibli , directed by the successful Hayao Miyazaki.
I won't give you spoilers, just a brief analysis of a story full of magic and adventure that captivates you in every way ❤️
Sinopsis | Synopsis
Situada en el período Muromachi de Japón, vemos a Ashitaka, el último príncipe que bajo las responsabilidades de su cargo intenta ligar la paz con un pueblo que se encuentra en medio de la vegetación más frondosa que Ashitaka se puede imaginar. Esto no será tarea sencilla puesto que las criaturas que allí habitan no desean que ningún extraño profane sus verdes tierras. Es así como Ashitaka encontrará los más peculiares seres que viven dentro del bosque e iniciará un viaje arduo. Sin embargo, debe seguir adelante puesto que de dicho viaje depende su vida...
Set in the Muromachi period of Japan, we see Ashitaka, the last prince who, under the responsibilities of his office, tries to establish peace with a town that is located in the middle of the lushest vegetation that Ashitaka could ever imagine. This will not be an easy task since the creatures that live there do not want any stranger to desecrate their green lands. This is how Ashitaka will find the most peculiar beings that live within the forest and will begin an arduous journey. However, he must keep going forward since his life depends on this journey...
Pura magia | Pure magic
Lo primero que debo resaltar es lo increíblemente interesante que es imaginario popular japonés. Está lleno de magia y misticismo, cosa que en esta película vemos ampliamente representada a través de leyendas, ideosincracia y mitos entorno a criaturas fantásticas que poseen cierto poder espiritual.
Son representantes de una manera intrigante, planteadas en primera instancia como algo misterioso con intenciones poco claras hará que lentamente se revelan. Esto hace que la curiosidad se alimente por lo que quedas pegado a la pantalla para poder saber qué pasa realmente.
En este caso me agrada que los personajes tienen deseos que no están del todo mal ni del todo bien; en ciertos aspectos caen en áreas grises lo cual hace que podamos identificarnos más fácilmente puesto que son más realistas. Por supuesto en la vida real no hay espíritus del bosque mediando en nuestras decisiones, pero es factible pensar en situaciones donde se nos presente el dilema de no perjudicar a alguien más o hacerlo por un beneficio propio.
The first thing I must highlight is how incredibly interesting the Japanese popular imagination is. It is full of magic and mysticism, something that in this film we see widely represented through legends, ideosyncracies and myths surrounding fantastic creatures that possess a certain spiritual power.
They are represented in an intriguing way, framed in the first instance as something mysterious with unclear intentions that will slowly reveal themselves. This fuels curiosity so you stay glued to the screen to find out what is really happening.
In this case I like that the characters have desires that are neither completely bad nor completely right; In certain aspects they fall into gray areas which makes it easier for us to identify ourselves since they are more realistic, more relatable. Of course in real life there are no forest spirits mediating our decisions, but it is feasible to think of situations where we are presented with the dilemma of not harming someone else or doing it for our own benefit.
También considero que uno de los mensajes es la tolerancia y el respeto, demostrando que las diferencias pueden resolverse llegando a puntos medios. Además el resto de personas no tienen porqué comportarse o actuar exactamente igual que tú y eso no tiene nada de malo, al contrario, cada quien posee características únicas que los hacen quienes son, por lo que mientras no sean dañinas, no tienen porqué cambiar. Cada quien ve el mundo de una manera distinta juzgando desde su propia experiencia y su naturaleza.
I also consider that one of the messages is tolerance and respect, demonstrating that differences can be resolved by reaching middle ground. Furthermore, other people do not have to behave or act exactly the same as you and there is nothing wrong with that. On the contrary, everyone has unique characteristics that make them who they are, so as long as they are not harmful, they do not have to change. Everyone sees the world in a different way judging from their own experience and nature.
Otro gran mensaje de esta película es la conexión y responsabilidad que tenemos con la naturaleza. La madre Tierra juega un papel principal demostrando su importancia en el equilibrio de la vida en el planeta, por lo que varios de los personajes la defienden con fiereza intentando que no sea dañada bajo ningún concepto. Es nuestro único hogar, el más dulce y puro, por eso hay que defenderlo. No se debe profanar el santuario natural con banalidades humanas.
Podría considerarse que el ecologismo es un mensaje principal en el film.
Another great message of this film is the connection and responsibility we have with nature. Mother Earth plays a main role demonstrating her importance in the balance of life on the planet, so several of the characters defend her fiercely, trying to ensure that she is not harmed under any circumstances. It is our only home, the sweetest and purest, that is why we must defend it. The natural sanctuary should not be desecrated with human banalities.
Environmentalism could be considered a main message in the film.
Otro de los aspectos que convierte esta historia en una de las mejores de Studio Ghibli y Miyazaki es la espléndida animación. La atención a cada mínimo detalle, la fluidez, los colores, las expresiones situles de los personajes, todo es sencillamente precioso. Incluso si el tipo de historia no es lo tuyo, es innegable que la animación es un 100. Por supuesto tiene el estilo característico de los noventa, pero de igual manera es de la mejor calidad.
Una animación tan pulcra aporta más a la magia, incluso hace que los espíritus se vean mucho más imponentes. Y por supuesto , esto está perfectamente complementado con la banda sonora.
En general ver eta película es una experiencia maravillosa.
Another aspect that makes this story one of the best from Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki is the splendid animation. The attention to every small detail, the fluidity, the colors, the characters' subtle expressions, everything is simply beautiful. Even if the type of story is not your thing, it is undeniable that the animation is 100. Of course it has the characteristic style of the nineties, but in the same way it is of the best quality.
Such neat animation adds more to the magic, even making the spirits look much more imposing. And of course, this is perfectly complemented by the soundtrack.
Overall, watching this movie is a wonderful experience.
Si te gustan las historias llenas de magia, aventura e incluso un poco de romance que a su vez dejen un mensaje importante,ésta es una grandiosa opción. Hasta ahora pocas cosas han sido capaz de transmitirme esa magia pura y memorable de una animación con una historia bien contada.

Vi esta pelicula hace mucho tiempo y casi no recordaba de que trataba porque en ese tiempo solo veia las peliculas de Ghibli, pero no comprendia los mensajes 😂
El respeto hacia el otro y hacia la naturaleza es el mejor mensaje que puede dejarnos, cada persona es un mundo y tiene sus ideas, claro sin que perjudiquen al otro, se respetan y ni hablar de la naturaleza, nuestro unico hogar que se le debe el mayor de los respetos 🌏
Ahora que leo tu reseña, tenia un mensaje mas profundo que no capte en su momento, que mensa estoy jaja 😂
Eso si, la animacion es un deleite visual ❤️
Nos logra dejar mensajes muy importantes pero honestamente no es tan claro a simple vista, creo que hay que ver esta película al menos un par de veces para poder captarlo. Hay mucho del folklore japonés que puede hacer que el mensaje se vuelva algo muy secundario; no es tan fácil de ver pero allí está.
Yo misma la primera vez que la vi me quedé tipo «ok... Está cool pero no entiendo»😅. El entendimiento llegó después.
Lo visual es lo que realmente enamora ❤️.

My memories of this movie are summarized in a striking animation, a subliminal message about the impact of man on nature, and an uncomfortable feeling about the way they created the animation of the Boar's curse.
Definitely, this movie is part of anime history and everyone should watch it or at least know about it. Highly recommended.
That's honestly a great summary for the movie. I think they did a great job because the message it conveys is really important, specially for young audience to learn about the man impact on the environment, the mesmerizing animation and the way the characters and scenarios can make you feel certain things. I think that Boar's curse was supposed to make you feel uncanny.

Una de mis películas favoritas de los Studios Ghibli. No recordaba que fuera tan vieja ya (me siento viejo también 🥴). De las que veo que tienen una grandiosa historia que contar. Los personajes están muy bien desarrollados, la animación está muy adelantada a su época y las escenas que tiene son increíbles.
Me gusta también que tenga tantas referencias y elementos del mundo salvaje y del mundo espiritual. Las visuales son increíbles y el mensaje es claro y hermosos. Me encantó.

I saw this movie a long time ago and the truth is that it was an experience like few others, it is difficult to find stories with the depth that Princess Mononoke does. And well, you are right about what you mention about how interesting the Japanese popular imagination is, it never ceases to amaze me.

Luego de leer tu apreciación, tendré en cuenta la película la próxima vez que me siente a ver algo entretenido. He disfrutado de muchas películas animadas de este género. En la actualidad las prefiero dobladas al español para no leer subtítulos y no perder detalle.
