"Violet Evergarden: The Movie": a perfect ending to a perfect anime.

This is undoubtedly one of the films I've been waiting to see this year, maybe many will know or maybe not, I am a diehard fan of the Violet Evergarden franchise, I consider it one of the masterpieces of today, due to the impeccable direction, story and the beautiful animation it has. Since I saw the anime I knew it was something unique and unrepeatable, we will not see anything like this work in years, this specific film is responsible for closing the work once and for all, giving it an end more than deserved and that surely left many delighted. The day of the premiere on Netflix, I had to prepare myself mentally and psychologically for what I was about to witness, I knew beforehand that I would end up crying somewhere. I already knew a part of the film due to a spoiler that some jerk gave in the comments of a post because he had read the novel, but no matter, it wasn't that relevant and it was almost obvious, something like that didn't stop my enjoyment and excitement for the film. So without further ado, let's get started with the review of Violet Evergarden's latest film.

Ésta es sin lugar a dudas una de las películas que más estuve esperando para ver este año, quizás muchos sabrán o quizás no, yo soy un acérrimo fan de la franquicia de Violet Evergarden, lo considero una de las obras maestras de la actualidad, debido a la impecable dirección, historia y por la hermosa animación que posee. Desde que vi el anime supe que era algo único e irrepetible, no vamos a ver nada como esta obra en años, ésta película en específico es la encargada de cerrar la obra de una vez por todas, otorgándole un final más que merecido y que de seguro dejó encantado a muchos. El día del estreno en Netflix, tuve que prepararme mentalmente y psicológicamente para lo que iba a presenciar, ya sabía de antemano que en alguna parte terminaría llorando. Ya me sabía una parte de la película debido a un spoiler que un imbécil dió en los comentarios de una publicación porque se había leído la novela, pero no importa, no era tan relevante y además era algo casi que obvio, algo así no paró mi disfrute y emoción por la película. Así que sin más dilación, comencemos con la reseña de la última película de Violet Evergarden.

I don't know if you can consider this film a direct continuation of the previous one, but I think it takes place a few years in the future, where the antenna to make telephone communications is almost finished, we also see the hint of the first telephones and the possible end of the letter industry, suggesting that the imminent completion of Violet Evergarden's work may come at any moment. But before we see all this, we are introduced to a parallel story that takes place many years in the future, where the use of letters is not at all common and even rare for other people, this story will star the granddaughter of one of the characters who was helped to convey her feelings for Violet long ago in the past, who upon finding some letters made by her, embarks on a journey to find out who she was. In the present meanwhile, we see the last glimmer of hope on Violet's part, as she finds a letter containing the same handwriting as Gilbert, the soldier who taught her to have emotions and who raised her, opening up the possibility that he is alive, so she sets out on a journey to confirm whether he is alive or not, during this process she will also help a boy write letters to his relatives because he will soon appear. Three stories that converge impeccably throughout the film.

No sé si puede considerar esta película una continuación directa de la anterior, pero creo que transcurre unos años ya en el futuro, donde la antena para hacer comunicaciones telefónicas está casi terminada, además vemos el indicio de los primeros teléfonos y el posible fin de la industria de las cartas, dando a entender que la inminente culminación del trabajo de Violet Evergarden puede llegar de un momento a otro. Pero antes de que veamos todo esto, se nos presentará una historia paralela que sucede muchos años en el futuro, donde hacer uso de cartas no es nada común y hasta raro para las demás personas, ésta historia será protagonizada por la nieta de uno de los personajes que fue ayudado a transmitir sus sentimientos por Violet mucho tiempo atrás en el pasado, quien al encontrar unas cartas hechas por ella, emprende un viaje para saber quién fue. En el presente mientras tanto, vemos el último atisbo de esperanza de parte de Violet, al encontrar una carta que contiene la misma caligrafía que Gilbert, el soldado que la enseñó a tener emociones y quien la crió, abriendo así la posibilidad de que esté con vida, por lo que emprenderá un viaje para confirmar si está vivo o no, durante este proceso también ayudará a un niño a escribirle cartas a sus familiares debido a que pronto parecerá. Tres historias que convergen de forma impecable durante toda la película.

The story that I loved the most is the part of the boy who is going to die and wants to leave letters to his loved ones, the climax and the tragic denouement even overshadows the end of the film, with impeccable direction that makes it easy to soften your poor heart so that you break down in tears for everything that is happening unexpectedly and very quickly. As usual, what really breaks your heart is the reading of the letters from his parents, when the son has already passed away due to an inevitable illness, similar to one we have seen before but on a smaller scale, here no letters are left for the next 50 years, but a single letter is used which is more like a farewell for a death foretold, wishing the best wishes to his little brother, and thanking his parents for having been his beloved mum and dad. Anything more sad and beautiful than this in the film? I'm sorry, but no. The last letter Violet writes to Gilbert doesn't reach the necessary level, the situation isn't that emotional, it even becomes cliché because of how the events unfold.

La historia que más me encantó es la parte del niño que va a morir y quiere dejarle cartas a sus seres queridos, el clímax y el desenlace tan trágico llega hasta a opacar el final de la película, contando con una dirección impecable que hace que fácilmente se ablande tu pobre corazón para que partas en llanto por todo lo que está aconteciendo de manera inesperada y de forma muy rápida. Como es usual, lo que termina de partirte el alma, es la lectura de las cartas de parte de sus padres, cuando el hijo ya ha fallecido debido a una inevitable enfermedad, caso parecido a uno que ya habíamos visto antes pero a menor escala, acá no se dejan cartas para los próximos 50 años, sino que se hace uso de una única carta que cuenta más como una despedida por una muerte anunciada, deseándole el mejor de los deseos a su hermano pequeño, y agradeciendo a sus padres por haber sidos sus queridos papá y mamá. ¿Algo más triste y hermoso que esto en la película? Lo siento pero no. La última carta que Violet le escribe a Gilbert no alcanza el nivel necesario, la situación no es tan emotiva, hasta llega a tornarse cliché debido a cómo se desarrollan los acontecimientos.

As for the animation we can appreciate a higher budget than the anime, being able to notice more elaborate visuals that go according to the extensive budget that a work like this entails, so what you can expect when watching this, are a beautiful character design totally impeccable and wonderful scenarios with a variety in the landscapes, as usual in Kyoto Animation, all this section is very well taken care of in extreme. Evidently the other thing that stands out too much is the soundtrack, which accompanies in a magnificent way all the scenes that take place during the film, having a track for each occasion, being one of the most memorable moments when "Mochishirube" sounds, the wonderful ending of the anime that is used in most of the emotional and emblematic moments of the series, I found it splendid that to give a beautiful closure they have made use of this song, which felt even nostalgic because I had time without listening to it. In conclusion, this is the perfect ending to a perfect work, it perfectly closes the only loose end left in the franchise. If you've already seen Violet Evergarden, you're obviously going to love this film.

En cuanto a la animación podremos apreciar un presupuesto más elevado que el del anime, pudiendo notar así unas visuales más trabajadas que van acordes al extenso presupuesto que una obra como ésta conlleva, así que lo que puedes esperar al ver esto, son un hermoso diseño de personajes totalmente impecable y unos escenarios maravillosos con una variedad en los paisajes, como es usual en Kyoto Animation, todo este apartado está muy bien cuidado en extremo. Evidentemente la otra cosa que destaca demasiado es la banda sonora, la cual acompaña de manera magnífica todas las escenas que transcurren durante la película, teniendo una pista para cada ocasión, siendo uno de los momentos más memorables cuando suena "Mochishirube", el maravilloso ending del anime que es usado en la mayoría de momentos emotivos y emblemáticos de la serie, me pareció espléndido que para dar un cierre hermoso se haya hecho uso de ésta canción, que se sintió hasta nostálgica porque tenía tiempo sin escucharla. En conclusión, estamos ante el final perfecto para una obra perfecta, cierra perfectamente el único cabo suelto que dejaba la franquicia con creces. Si ya te viste Violet Evergarden, esta película obviamente te va a encantar.
