My Newest Art Creation ..

'Alien Selfie'

Is in fact a combination of a few different creative styles or rather techniques. This one is a bit out of the norm for me and maybe a little out of my comfort zone as well, so bear with me if you will.

'Alien Selfie' ..Is an original work that I created utilizing a combination of hand-drawn, AI, and touchups done in good old fashion Microsoft paint. Yes, I brought that one out from the dead and utilized it with this work. Hey, nobody says you have to get all fancy every time you create a piece of art.

I spent roughly 2 hours working on this piece.. during lunch hours, Over the last several weeks. A few minutes here a few minutes there and I think I’m going to call it complete today!

The piece started off as a drawing.. on a flat white piece of paper. The drawing was very one dimensional and created using only a sharpie. The simple black and white drawing came to life after applying some shading with a pencil and incorporating multiple bubble like circles around my alien. I wasn’t neat about this process at all. It was kind of a nice change since I am very much a perfectionist, and trying to work on hiding that part of my personality, is sometimes a challenge.

Then it went to Photoshop.. Once my basic drawing was complete, I made some touchups to the black and the white portions of the drawing through Photoshop. I wanted to make sure that the contrast between black and white was obvious and that there was a minimal amount of gray except for my alien. Once those adjustments were set, then I was ready for AI.

After Photoshop, I then utilized an AI program.. and combined both my drawing with another colorful photograph in order to obtain the right balance of color and black. This took several tries; almost 10 until I got exactly what I wanted. It looks a little dull and washed out at this point, but I will soon be changing that. I promise that the finished results will be MUCH more colorful and lively.

Once more, I head back into Photoshop.. To adjust some of the color fields, the contrast, and the clarity a bit. Nothing huge, but WOW did it make a big difference in the overall vibrancy.

When was the last time I used Microsoft Paint? Well... Today in fact! After my art was run through an AI program, I was able to do some basic touchups in Microsoft Paint. There were some harsh edges that needed softened, and some color added to other areas where there was a sort of dullness. I wanted it to appear balanced but out of control. Is that making any sense? Sometimes I cannot explain exactly what I’m talking about. I want it to challenge my perfectionism with a messy sort of art creation. I think I accomplished that.

I also remembered to signed my piece.. in the lower right hand corner, in black ink, before completing the 'save' on this digital art. I’m still trying to get used to this new autograph of mine since I have changed it for these digital works. A simple 'BM' does just fine.

For the fun of it.. I Googled "ALIEN SELFIE ART" just to see what types of work would come up. There’s some interesting art pieces named 'Alien Selfie' or at least with the tag alien selfie, but nothing quite like my new creation. It just goes to show you there are a lot of people thinking about aliens taking selfies, and enough interest to create art representing the thought. You never know, maybe one day my lonely piece of artwork will also show up in those Google results, If the logarithm allows it.

How The Art Would Look Framed ..

A simple black frame, with a wide white mat. The art would then be accented with a thinner black mat. What do you think?

This sort of art may not be for everyone, I totally understand that. I am not a fan of many sorts or art styles and subject matter, BUT I can appreciate the time and the thought that may go into some of those pieces. Although this was a simple design, thought, time and creativity went into creating it. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every step of the creative process and simply can not wait to find the time to do it again. Thank you for stopping by and checking it out!
