Neon Lit Japan 🎌

With the rise of AI artwork, digital artists and graphic designers like myself may feel like there is no point in taking the time to create original artwork ourselves. I refuse to totally give up though and still find great joy in creating.

It's been a while since I've taken the time to focus on specific artwork designs outside of just creating daily thumbnails for my blogs. I used to do it all the time, but I just haven't really wanted to create much else. That is until the other night when I was feeling good off an edible, bored, and decided to spend a few hours working on Photoshop to create my latest design that I call "Neon Lit Japan".

I've never visited Japan before, but I have seen a lot of movies and video games set there. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Ghostwire Tokyo are two that come to mind right away. I have liked Japanese culture and history for many years. In fact, my first tattoos were all Japanese-themed and that is now what makes up the entirety of my right sleeve.

Thus, it makes sense that I had the desire to place myself in a colorful Japanese setting. When I think of Tokyo, I think of narrow streets and neon lights. I know not the entire city is like that, but I like to imagine that it is.

I started this design with a simple image of downtown Tokyo. I doctored it up with color and a few flares and then just kept moving forward with no specific plan other than to include a new photo I had just taken of myself that night.

Next, I found a really cool kitsune neon sign that I separated in half and placed on either side of my head. I found these cool Japanese script neon lights and used them to add a bit of perspective to the design.

The last thing I did was take some time to blend. The pink/purple/blue colors were a continued theme from beginning to end. This is probably one of my favorite color palettes. If you know me well, then you already knew that.

The final design was this:

I could have just left it at that, but I wanted to add another layer of awesomeness to this creation. I opened up an animation app that I have on my phone called Werble. This app makes it extremely easy to animate any photo with all sorts of cool effects. I've been using it for years, but it had been a while since I last opened it. My skills with the app came back to me right away and allowed me to do some dope things.

The main thing I wanted to add was some floating cherry blossom leaves. I masked around my face and then let the leaves float upwards everywhere else. Next was a trippy geometric design that I had coming forward. I think that adding multiple directions to the photo made it feel much more alive. Lastly, I added a slight flash on my body just to add that last little bit of extra flare.

The result of my animation was this:

I'm obsessed with how this all turned out. It makes me want to create all sorts of new designs again. Thankfully I took a host of great portrait photos of myself that night and there is a huge variety of poses. So I will definitely not have a problem finding a central subject. I wonder what will be next for me. Perhaps an Egyptian-themed self-portrait.

If you have any other ideas that you'd like to see me implement, please feel free to drop a comment and let me know.

Thanks for checking out my latest artwork!

You have done it and its looking really good. As far as animation is concerned I have also seen The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and I loved the animation there.

There are so many cool things about Japan to draw inspiration from. Even my logo was inspired by the mighty samurai.

Yes personally I love Japan and there are many reasons to love, like as we know Japanese cars are very best cars in the world and Japanese culture is amazing and many more...

Japan does have the coolest and most customizable cars. It's a place that encourages you to be yourself and I like that a lot.

It's cool to see you over here and posting your art! I think the animation came out super cool... and all the AI art in the world won't ever completely replace analog art, however, it might make most of us lazy. hahaha Cheers browski!

I used to make art like this all of the time, but it was before 2017 and I hadn't even discovered Hive yet. I still have my old IG with all of my work through https://www.instagram.com/thr3eye/.

I still enjoy creating art a lot, but damn it really is so much easier to just think of an idea and let AI do it for you in dozens of different ways until you get the perfect outcome.

It's true, i play around with the AI after i get done doing work... just to have fun. Ausbit has a cool discord bot i've been using and it's phenominal. I am making a post with the links that will publish in the next couple of days, hopefully.... but you can go check out my AI art posts from last October and they have the links to join over there. You should totally give it a go since it is free. Plus, if you want to use it more than the free allotment it's super cheap and you can use some Hive rewards to just fill the bot credits up.

Dude, i just checked your IG and some of that art is badass. You should makes some posts and share them here on HIVE... if you haven't already. Looking forward to seeing more! hahaha

That's awesome. Thanks, I'll look into the bot.

Going back and finding all of those old files is just so difficult because I worked exclusively from my iPhone back then. Now I design on my desktop and have everything organized in folders so I never have to worry about that issue again.

ii desu ne.. :)

Weeaboo level unlocked.

i was gonna put otaku, but i looked it up.. turns out it's for anime fanatics..

I didn't know the difference.

I like the animation of the cherry blossom. The background gives me the vibe of Tokyo Drift.

Cherry blossom leaves are such a nice vibe to me. I loved Tokyo Drift the most out of all the Fast films. So reading that makes me very happy.

Yes no doubt AI change a lot of things, At first we had to think day and night about a particular deisgn but now A.I could do it in the matter of hours and minutes. I have seen your twitter post, The design is awesome and specially the rose pettles flaying over your photo.

AI can be a great assistance in terms of turning an idea into a visual. I feel it often needs some human tweaking afterward, but eventually even that won't be needed.

It's always manly with a beard 😎😎😎

Spot on with the caption though.. JAPAN is certainly neon lit

The beard negates all of that pink.

Now a days the technology has advanced a lot and the way you edit this photo with this app looks much more beautiful. I'll also download it and tweak my image to see how it looks. There are such apps that tell how a person will look in his old age.

Niceee good work brother keep learning ♥️
