Anime-Inspired Pen Sketch: Female Fighter Mid-Kick Concept Illustration

Hello illustration friends,

I'm back sharing another concept illustration, this time channeling some anime inspiration into the drawing. It features a woman wearing a midriff-baring halter top and baggy cargo pants rendered in ink pen. She stands in a dramatic raised knee pose, winding up to deliver a power kick skyward.

I tried to capture the movement and energy of an impending attack captured mid-action. This concept was meant to elicit a feeling of strength, and determination.

Executing the line work, her face unfortunately didn't translate how I envisioned. The proportions feel off. Her clenched left fist also should have been larger relative to the foreshortened kicking leg. But attempting more ambitious dynamic perspective sketches like this is helpful for improving my figure drawing.

Starting with pencil on paper, I moved to pen outlines before taking it into Adobe Illustrator. There I smoothed lines, patched mistakes, and added the rest of her bottom foot that was cut off from the page. While an amateur effort with obvious areas for improvement, overall I like attempting these anime-esque illustrations.
