I have been working on a small series of drawings called, The Seven Gods of my Nightmares.

It seems most people get rid of nightmares during adolescence, but I always was a dreamer and didn't shed any of it. It runs in the family too.

I have tried to read about it and the description of night terror in very small children is the same as my mother has described me having at the age of one or two. I have seen it myself when my eldest daughter was a small toddler. A rather distressful experience as it takes a long time to get in contact with the child who cries and react hostile to you.

Later it has simply become a part of my life. In certain periods I suffer from nightmares of different sorts - enough that I have rubricated them into certain categories - some are banal psychological nightmares, anger, fear or (worst) sorrow. Some are full of deep, but unexplainable anxiety. The worst are solipsist, geometrical and full of fundamental wrongness.

Somehow these dreams, just like the other dreams I have, have played a rather large role in my mental life, and I do not loathe them like I did when I was younger. They are part of me and these drawings are therefore, I suppose, also a bit funny, a bit stoic, a bit mystical (so don't ask me what they represent). Maybe I could have made nine or three. It became seven.

This is the first one. Ug.

So this creature is one of your seven gods? Do the gods torment you? I can't imagine a geometrical dream but geometry appears in your artwork quite often, like this one.

I still have nightmares and, they come in categories like yours. Inability to fly away from danger, dreams involving water/floods inability to swim away from danger/ Recurring happier dreams are of homes of my own with rooms I am seeing for the first time.

I suppose that this is an artistic rendition of something unrenderable (if that's a word). A bit like the Greenlandish tupilak. A creature of the soul that is depicted by the artists up there in tooth of whale. In Denmark we even use the word for the artworks and not the hungry, evil spirit. The real tupilak from the stories gave me - not exactly nightmares - but a very bad feeling as a child. The figurines not so much :) I guess it is the same with these drawings. It is an approximation, a way to organise chaos.

And yes, these Gods have tormented me, I just have become more philosophical about it. With all those dreams I have to take it as something that is real in a sense - a matter of spiritual fact :) But it always have been really draining and cumbersome when I had intense periods with nightmares.

P.S. I have talked to people who knows what this thing about geometry in dreams is. Not sure how to quite understand it myself.

I like that word, unrenderable.

I wish I dreamt in geometry. I would find that comforting I think. When I was studying math, I dreamt math, and often woke up with the solution to a difficult proof clear in my mind.

Geometry dreams... I will write about it now in my next post.

I hope the drama do not disturb you now. I wonder if some creative people retain those vivid dreams to feed their work. I don't remember mine, but my mum would with hers. They just yelled to be fairly mundane.

It does disturb, but many things in life is disturbing. Many people do not remember their dreams - in my experience it is about remembering them when you wake up. In the hours that follow the dream will disappear form your memory and you will instead remember the things you remembered :) (if that makes sense).

I guess you need to capture the dreams before they fade. Our brains can work in strange ways (good and bad).

Wow. Have never see this before but I think I have heard about the The Seven God's Of The Nightmare. This is awesome. I grade it 98%. How I wish I can learn too. Hahaha.

That's one long dick..

it has the nigtmare shlong

The staff that dreams are made of.

The longer, the scarier.
