Wheel cover “KENSO” original Airbrush ArtWork and the 11 Steps how I created it 😊

in Alien Art Hive2 years ago

Hi all 👋🏻

I wanted to show you today one of my earlier #airbrush works I created with the title: “KENSO” in 2014.
THE STORIES BEHIND IT and show you its step by steps. Work in Progress photos (wip) 😎

cc4a5eb3_ffdd_440b_8c7b_1ef6edbf226b.jpeg
Me next to the finished wheel-cover in November 2014. It was getting cold already… Photo taken by Franco G. my neighbour in the school.

(Source photo above; another post of mine, you find here: Ladies of Hive Community Contest #64 “ART”)

Equipment I used:
Airbrush gun: Harder & Steenbeck Infinity 0.15mm
Paint: Createx Auto Air, professional Airbrush colors. Plus primer and 2K clear coat.
Underground as you can see is a wheel cover of a car, where the spare wheel is in.

A friend of mine contacted me after his dog died, if I could create a lasting memory for him on his car… to be precise on the wheel cover. He knew I AIRBRUSHED.
The dogs name was “KENSO” and was truly loved. 🥰

Of course I would help my friend and create something special.
So after we agreed the details he brought me the wheel cover.

(Most photos were taken by my phone at that time… so the quality isn’t the greatest but still good enough for you to view) 😁

Step 1
77f8de97_4c87_43c3_8a01_ec71878e9ac0.jpeg
I started working on it in May 2014.
Here you see, I have prepped the underground. Meaning: I sanded it completely. Than added a fixative so the primer would attach to the hard plastic surface. After that I added the primer and sanded this to a very smooth finish. With waterproof sandpaper.

Step 2
823efed2_2fc3_4f04_aded_060b1e0fdf2c.jpeg
I added a sketch of the main features with graphite pencils.

Step 3
3d44515f_6951_4067_a0b4_0a00aec14a16.jpeg
I started airbrushing the background.
I do this very light, and don’t add many details as I want the dog to stand out. The client did want most features of his garden in there. So the familiarity would be there.

Step 4
9d0e2f2a_51da_45d1_b972_a38988888511.jpeg
More background was added. After the client saw it evolve through photographs I send him, he changed his mind and asked me; if I could change the door of the garage into a fence with blue sky. Sure I could. So that was added.

Step 5
a009c7d9_4f36_47fa_b27d_c4636139bbd6.jpeg
Next I start the basic layers of the dog. I blend here two colours so that you see a guide with the dark and lights. This I will build up slowly with fur until I reach the desired result.

Step 6
49ff73db_611f_4011_95c6_d83d9706643b.jpeg
More layers are added. First steps of the details coming alive. I airbrush the hairs now.

Next…🤓 hhhmmm it’s June 2014 now. As some may know, this was also the time of my divorce and I had to move out of the house so it could be sold.
I have a pause now with this airbrush work.
I found a new home in the form of an “anti-squad” building in the Netherlands. Anti squad in this form means: you are protecting the building and living in it, until the owner decided what he wants to do with it.

It was a super large high school and I lived there with about 25 other people, all in different areas of the schools building/ floors. They were of all age groups… the youngest was just 18 and the oldest was in his sixties. 😎

So I moved to there with most of my belongings including some furniture… over a few weeks. I got a large technical class room (25 x 15 meters) in the basement with windows and 2 little rooms attached. There was a sink… luckily. So I could attach my washing machine. I was the only one that had one. So I helped some of the others out. 😁 I used a camping stove to cook… and we had bbq’s outside.
As the school had a gymnastics room there were showers and toilets we could use. So not completely back to basics but still a far way.
I payed for insurance and the electricity and water I used. That was it. So with about 175 euros this was sure a deal for me to get back on my feet.
I’m still in contact with a few of the people I lived with back than. The fun we had… 🤓🤩🥳

Now back to my post as I could continue to write more and more about my adventures: more changes are about to be told further along though 😉

Step 7
0e1c15d2_73ea_45bd_be0f_9a6ec44647ee.jpeg
Here you see the part of the class room with the windows… I sure had some nice views. My setup after I settled in and dealt with other things. It’s November 2014 now. Luckily my friend wasn’t in a rush to get the wheel cover 😊
One of my great finds in the school was that large chalk board… you see in the photo. I used it to hold up the photo my friend gave me to work from. I enlarged the best I could. Most details where gone by now. But the owner gave me more photographs I could find the characteristics of KENSO in.
Others from within the building that came to visit, always ended up to draw on it too hahaha 🤣 as you can see. Even as an adult those boards are just PLAIN fun!

Step 8
0843286d_2e89_4e86_b108_9e079dac92ac.jpeg
You can see here I added more fur and I try to get the main features of KENSO right. So the owner will recognise him. This is the hardest part when it is a pet. To get that right. It needs to become “his” KENSO.

Step 9
20922b12_5200_49c2_861e_f6fde90d5a06.jpeg
Little by little I’m adding more and more. His eyes, mouth and nose are main features.
Still more details will be added.
This work consists entirely out of airbrush work, no brushes were used.

Step 10
6c7c404c_b66c_4c00_9e76_c3d81ef60d45.jpeg
Now I airbrushed the outer ring black. And look closely for changes that needs to be done.

Step 11
e39ca334_52c6_4965_ae48_bdebaf5e85e5.jpeg
The last details are added and I prep the wheel cover now for the 2K clear coat.

Finished result:

Wheel Cover of “KENSO” after the clear coat, on the car.

Now the #fun part I didn’t tell you about yet but mentioned… 😎
By creating this airbrush work for my friend. He offered he would transport my belongings in his camper van 🚐 all the way to #Spain 🇪🇸 in early January 2015. When I wanted to move countries.

I thought that was a great offer in exchange. I did pay his expenses along the way, tolls, diesel, food etc. and he stayed for a week in Spain before he went back home again to the Netherlands. But…
🤩🤩 More about this grand #adventure: HOW I #EMIGRATED TO SPAIN. And the #journey we had through ice and snow… (remember I had a #classicmini at that time…) 💃🏻💃🏻 Will follow later in due course, with all it’s #details.
So stay tuned
😉😎😁

Thank you for looking and reading. I hope you enjoyed my Step by Step of this earlier airbrush / artwork on a #Wheelcover. 😊

Any questions or comments, let me know. Always happy to help.😊 And talk about art.

Have a great day all 😎👋🏻

Kenso is absolutely gorgeous and you did a a cracking job @littlebee4
Air brushing is fun and not so easy to learn🤣

Thank you so sooo much @tengolotodo 😎🤩

It is… you need to know how to handle the gun to fully control it. I’m self taught but learned fast 😁 I just love airbrushing. I combine it now even in my classical paintings. So I airbrush the background and paint the subject with brushes… it gives an even bigger 3D effect sometimes. More realistic.

Oh yes it is all about handling the gun.
That is cool that you use it so much and I can definitely see that you mught get a bigger 3D effect!

😎
Have a great evening @tengolotodo 👋🏻

Thanks and you too @littlebee4

Thank you kindly Ed 👋🏻
Night night 😴

Wow that's good airbrushing. I would not be able to do hair like that with an airbrush. I mostly cheat with frisket for airbrushing and can't do anything freehand.

Thank you so much @sketch.and.jam 😁
You know it… very cool.
This is all free handed 😉 all my airbrush works are. Thanks how I taught it myself.
One of my earlier works. Should start soon again something. But a move is in the way of setting up my studio again.

What a lucky dog, getting to ride around the Netherlands like that. What a view!

I was not that familiar with airbrushing, or how detailed it could get. He looks real enough to reach out and touch! I would have thought you could only achieve that with a brush.

I have no doubt that we are molded by our experiences.

I found a new home in the form of an “anti-squad” building in the Netherlands.

What an amazing idea, honestly. It is a win-win situation, to be honest. I have never heard of it being a thing, although, I invited a family with nowhere to go live to stay at another house I own until they got on their feet. I gave them a year, so they didn't think I would kick them out anytime. So here, I think it is individual, it happens, but, nothing like what they have in the Netherlands.

How awesome that you have a traveling talent. You can take it wherever you go.

He sure is a lucky dog @dswigle 😁

Airbrushing is basically what you see when motorcycles with graphics pass by. Those are airbrushed and pin-striping (I do too)
You see it also on the custom built (mostly American muscle) cars… the flames, stripes and graphics etc. it is truly a big thing in America 😎 not so much over here in Europe.
With airbrushing you do not touch the surface, the air through the gun blows the paint on the underground. With help of an compressor. My skill set is I can airbrush lines as fine as hairs. So everything is possible. Got published in magazines a few times too. Even in the US with it 😁

And I’m one of the lucky ones. My work I take along, so now my hubby is being relocated I just join without a problem 🤩🤩🤩 I can live any where in the world. 🥰

Yes we are molded/ formed by our experiences and they only make you stronger 😎

It is rather large in the Netherlands. It is called “anti-kraak”
Imagine all those empty structures. Even castles, churches, normal houses or office buildings. It is common to find them in larger cities but also in the middle of nowhere.
It is spreading now. Saw Germany, Belgium and parts of France were added to the list.
It is THE solution to many problems. And there are always people in need or some that just like living like that. It was a great experience living there. I learned a lot from it. 😊

Thanks Denise 😁🥰

What I meant was I didn't know the mechanics of airbrushing, the details of how you can be so detailed.

It is big here. Truth.

Because I have no artistic talent, I am particularly where to buy anybody that can draw more than a straight line. Just kidding, of course. It is great to have a talent that can go with you and I am I'm very excited about your move and hopefully you'll be able to stay with us for a while.

I think being opposite is okay between husband and wife because being too much alike would drive each other crazy.

Have yourself a great day!

Ok… maybe when I have my studio set up on the other side, I do some in detailed how to airbrush videos 😉 it is all a technique. And can be learned. I started with airbrushing in 2011 even before I drew or painted. It got me hooked to art and made me explore everything else. All other mediums and techniques. Now I use all of them.

We are planning to stay Denise 😁 as the country so fits us… so much more in many ways 😎
Yes we are the same but in so many ways different. He is not creative in any way, or patient. We do mix well 🤣

Thank you so much, you too 👋🏻☀️

And congratulations on your Publications! Why did you tell me I was rubbing up next to royalty? All kidding aside, that's awesome!

Hahaha no not that big hahaha 🤣
Thank you so much @dswigle 😊

I’m proud of my art now as it is completely something different to what I studied. Engineering. But you do see some technical aspect there shining through.
I am self taught in my art, and still learning new techniques and mediums. My latest additions are oils and soon water colour. But first a move… 😉 and new studio set up.

###AMAZIIIIIIIIING!!!!
rehived and I sent pish.io to honor your post a bit up. Hugs to yaaaaaaa

Aaawwww THANK you so much @akida 😁🤗💃🏻🤩
Much appreciated!
Hugs back at ya 🤗🤗🤗

I've seen several works of art that are nothing shy of masterpieces on this platform during the past however many years I've been here. Your airbrushed Kenso on a canvas the size of a wheel cover is just as good if not better than any I've seen and I'm not just saying that because iheart GSD's.

Bravo, excellent, and all your favorite adjectives. In case you haven't heard it lately, you're top shelf talent and I hope you appreciate that wheel cover as much as your fans do.

Thank you so sooo much @dandays 😊😁
You made my day… truly! That’s so nice to hear. Appreciate all your words.

I am proud of this work on the Wheel Cover and I hope you could see it in my face standing next to it 🥰 the tears the owner got, when I showed him the end result… just MELTED my heart. I will never ever forget!
Those experiences… are making it all worth it. 😎
Every work of art I create for myself or for clients, wether on a wall or as a framed one I put my heart and soul into… share it all.

Have an amazing day further 👋🏻☀️ Thank you!

Welcome to Hive. You're off to a great start.

That’s truly kind of you @dandays 😁 much appreciated!
Thank you so much 😊 for everything.

So far I love Hive and being truly a part of this great community for 5 months. Up to many… many more 😎 wished I had found it sooner.

This is legendary wow. The details are uncanny.

Kenso will never be forgotten ❤️

Thank you so much @stevenson7 😁
He sure won’t be forgotten now. 🥰 I was glad I could help my friend.

The wheel cover is now hanging in the living room after the car needed to be scrapped.

That's perfect. The fact that it could be removed.

Yes, it is a wheel cover @stevenson7 😎 It clicks with a chrome ring around it over the spare wheel. So it was always removable… like when you needed to fix a flat tire on the car. The spare wheel is just behind it on those kind of cars. 🚗
So he never would have lost it now the car is gone.

Right

That makes sense.

The art is surreal. It's so realistic That you would think it's a photo.

I can't imagine how thankful your friend would have been

Thank you so much @stevenson7. Most of my art is realistic, some even hyperrealistic.
Have posted some before but most thought they are photos hahaha 🤣

He truly is happy 😁 beyond words. He even cried when I gave it to him.

Tears of joy 😊

Was lovely seeing your work and chatting with you.

Do have a great day. ✌️

Beautiful work 👍 and cool to read the anecdotes surrounding its creation.

Thank you so much @heroldius 😁 it was fun airbrushing Kenso. To bad I didn’t have better photos for details, but it is from a while ago…

Little bit of back story there… although not many will read it hahaha 🤣
Thanks for that!
Have an awesome day further 👋🏻☀️

What an excellent job @ littlebee4, great, I was surprised, I've been following you for a short time and although I noticed your passion for the arts, I hadn't realized that you were a very good cartoonist, with a precise technique, the truth is I'm a little clueless hehehe. That hubcap with the image of Kenso is exquisitely beautiful, in addition to having a very entertaining narration, like your life as you tell us hahahaha 👌👍

Thank you so much @lileisabel 😁
Airbrush is where I started in 2011… to love arts. Through it I got to discover drawing and painting too. Later photography. It is completely different to what I learned in school as that was engineering. 😎
I saw I haven’t share any of my art in the last month. Need to do a bit more…

Happy you read my interesting story too… life can be a true adventure 😁
Have a great day today ☀️👋🏻

Wow that's very good. Nice work!
That's a great way to commemorate a beloved pet companion.

Thank you so much @leaky20 😊
It sure is… a great way to have a beloved pet close by… 🥰 the latest I heard is, it’s hanging on the wall now, as the car had to be scrapped.

Really Nice!
Congrats on a job well done!
👍🏼👋🏼👍🏼👋🏼👍🏼

Thank you so much @lesmann 😁
That’s nice to hear. I’m proud of this work as the owner loved it so much. He even cried when he saw it completed.
Happy Wednesday to you 👋🏻☀️

You can be Very Proud!
👋🏼💪🏼👍🏼💪🏼👋🏼
I airbrushed myself a little so I know it's a lot of work!
Great Job!
👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼

Cool, that’s great @lesmann you did it yourself a little.
Thank you so much 😁🤩 I am truly proud of it. Got even published 3 times in a magazine with it in Germany and the US.
Have a wonderful day today 👋🏻☀️

That Is Wonderful!
Congrats to You!

Muchísimas gracias 😎🤩

wow!!!!! I'm shocked!!!!!! the dog is alive! this is amazing work!!!!! you are a great artist!!!!

Thank you so so much @tali72 😁
See… I’m like my favourite artists very realistic in my art. Can’t do anything else. Tried but I have to stick with realism. 😎
Thank you for visiting my post 👋🏻☀️ Much appreciated!

Here's that adventurous side of you that you share with the community, I love and admire it.
You are not only awesome at photography, you are talented at art as well, I will fail thousand times before getting that right.
That's a nice exchange of favor between you and your friend, I was wondering how much you are getting paid until you mention it is for helping you with transporting which is more of a memorable way of payment between you too compared to money.

Beautiful stuff Jackie

Thanks @joetunex 😊 love creating art and seeing the reactions of my clients when I give them the end result means so much to me. Friends or not. I did gain many friends through it 😎

I think these are the best exchanges.
I have a few of those. Like I painted 3 large murals inside a villa on the walls and ceiling. The owner let me live there in exchange for it. So I didn’t have to pay rent. It was a holiday home… so only occupied in the summer a few months. I stayed during the other months there.
The owners got some great art on the walls and I lived in a villa in the mountains for a while 😁 adventures all over. Could write a book hahaha 🤣
Thank you so much! Enjoy your evening 👋🏻

Wow beautiful story! 🙂

Thanks 😊

Wow, amazing work and good command of the airbrush especially with the details. Love the arrangement, the trade behind the artwork.

Thank you so much @discoveringarni 😁💃🏻
I love airbrushing and it doesn’t matter on what surface. Be it a motorcycle, car, wall or canvas. So much is possible with it.
Yes, I though that was a sweet deal we made. My friend did visit me a few times during the first 2 years in Spain with his wife. But sadly our contact has gone now. But that is what happens… lives change and go on. 😊🥰 I know it is a long distance too and he wasn’t that young either anymore. I did go to him a few times too when I visited family and friends in the Netherlands. So I know the Wheel Cover is now in his living room hanging on a wall, as the car is gone.
Will write more about our story and that move one day… as we had such an adventure 😁💃🏻🤩

It looks fantastic, I love your work! 😍❤️
I stared at the first picture for a long time, wondering what the round painting was - such detailed and beautiful :)

Thank you so much @astinmin 😁
That’s nice to hear!
Have a truly wonderful evening 👋🏻
