Splinterlands social media challenge!

Hello guys, did you miss me? I was on a short break from drawing because of the burnout. I think it's over now (probably). I don't what happened today. I suddenly got the urge to draw again after two weeks I think. I made a decent sketch for the weekly contest today and I was able to finish painting a Splinterlands character which I drew last year I think xd. I gave up on this lineart last year because of the horrible output lol. I'm glad I didn't erase it. I wouldn't have able to share with you today if that happened haha. Anyway, i decided to draw Lira this week and here she is drawn in my style hehe.

I really had no intentions to participate this week but as I said earlier I suddenly got the urge to draw again for some reason. Perhaps I was tired of being lazy all the time xd. I had this drawing done for a while now so finishing this today was possible. I probably wouldn't have participated if I didn't find this sketch today. Good thing I have some more unused artworks in my sketchbook. I'll probably use some of them in the future when I get lazy again haha.

Since the sketch was already done I finished making a simple lineart after importing in the Ibis app. Then I started to paint the base colours on her body. After I finished painting that I decided to paint the lightning glow in the initial stages. I drew some lightning on an add layer and used airbrush to get the glow effect. Once I was done with that I proceeded to paint the shadow colours on her body but only this time I decided to use the primary light source as the light from above. First time I'm doing this in my glow paintings. I thought it's gonna suck but it looks like it came out pretty well hehe. Then I decided to blur to blend some areas of the lower section of the body to give it a realistic feel. After I was done with that I decided to add highlights on both sides of her body since there are two light sources present on both sides. At this stage I still didn't touch the skin layer xd. I know my methods are unusual lol. After this I decided to paint the eyes and eyebrows. I actually made a cool eyebrow expression but it was kinda pointless because I didn't think that the hair was gonna hide most part of it xd. I also didn't add much detail on the hair in the final version. It just looked weird with so much strands so I removed it and kept very few of them.

The skin wa still not rendered. I decided to do that next and let me tell you guys it's been a while since I painted a girl and God it was tough. I forgot everything xd. After some trial and error I somehow remembered how to do it properly. Lasso tool really came in handy this time. It really helped me add some details in some areas easily. After adding highlights on the face, the face finally looked decent. I used to add one more thing in there but I forgot the technique. Will be doing that after I studied it again properly.

Now that the character was finished I made a background with the character layer itself with some tweaks. I duplicated the same layer again, zoomed it, added gaussian blur and placed it in a translucent mode. Finally, I applied a zooming blur on it and added the watermark and it was done :)

I'm glad I didn't erase it

I also keep my unfinished works on a folder hoping one day to make use of it. 😆

t's been a while since I painted a girl and God it was tough.

Used to draw guys a lot. Now, I am more on girls. haha 😆

As always, good job! 🥳

Yeah I need to draw more girls haha. I forgot a lot of stuff I used to do in the colouring stage. I believe I painted only guys and monsters since the past few weeks. I think this change was necessary.

Good to see a post from you again, solumviz! You are so good with lighting effects 🤯. This one is very dramatic, well done : )

Thanks Ema! I started digital art with glow art. It's like adding only highlights and glow source on a traditional artwork with the help of painting softwares like Ibis.

I see. That's definitely one of your strong suits. Your work is always recognizable because of that feature of your style. 😎
