Hello everyone, it is @thebyron here to show you a little bit about how I create some of my zombie artwork. Everything I draw and paint is with real materials like pens and watercolour paint. Those are my most used materials and in this article I'll talk briefly about how I work.
Step 1

My first step is usually ink drawing of whatever it is I am going to paint. I drew this one with a lack of features on purpose. I thought it looked cool and I wanted to see what it would look like when it was all done.
Step 2

Sometines I paint the background first, other times I don't. This time I did and I started with a brown, which is something I have not normally done.
Step 3

Next I painted the flesh. I debated starting with green or more yellow, but this time I went for a beige colour to start with.
Step 4

Now I add the red paint because you can't have a zombie painting without using red. So I used lot of red and started to define the eyes.
Step 5

I began to use blue paint for the hair and the clothing, then also for some shading on the face to add some more depth. I put the blue on the gums as well for some definition there.
Step 6
Next up are the lit areas of this zombie face and for that I used yellow and a bit of green around the eyes.

Step 7

More red paint to help define those crazy eyes and a few of the wrinkles.
Step 8

I needed some more depth and that means some darker colour, which is blue. I used the blue to define the shading on the skin and show some sunken cheeks and hint at the nasal cavity. This is technically the final image even though there is one more step.
Step 9

This is the final image, after photoshop edits to enrich and deepen the colour. I think the rough frame that I drew for this in the beginning was a nice way to contain everything and give it that apocalyptical feeling.
So that's a very basic idea of how I paint zombies. I often will use gelly roll gel pens to add extra details and highlights to the artwork.
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed it. Here's an animated version to show a time lapse video of the creation.
