We only have three rules in the Freewriters Community...
BE NICE!
Read other's work, and leave positive comments. If you can't think of anything nice to say move on.
BE ORIGINAL
NO plagiarism, NO AI-generated stories (write your own story; that is kinda the whole point!) Freewrite from your own mind, don't copy and paste, use your brain!
BE HERE
to avoid spam ONLY cross posts related to Freewrite prompt allowed. Cross posts must be authorised by Admin/Moderators. Any unauthorised Cross Posting will be muted
On the whole, these rules are respected - thank you!
We do occasionally come across posts copied from other places on the internet - usually brand new users who either don't understand Hive rules (or do understand but are just trying to "gain" the system).
We also have some Freewriters posts we suspect are generated by AI.
So... What's the point?!
The aim of the Freewriters Community is to encourage people to write!
The original idea of the Freewritehouse was to give people the confidence (and - with a daily prompt - the motivation) to realise they could write something every day - all it takes is 5 minutes!
Freewriters contests are supposed to be FUN, make you think, and inspire your creativity.
Here, in the Freewriters Community, we don't care about the "creativity" of machines (it's supposed "creativity" harvested - (cough) stolen - from other people's work, without prior consent) - we care about YOUR creativity.
If we wanted to read A.I. generated stories we can find those all over the internet!
Freewriters want to read YOUR stories
Generated from YOUR brain!
I guess there will always be people who can't help themselves and will cheat (some well known authors and poets have stolen other people's work and passed it off as their own to win prizes and awards).
But really, what can anyone gain from using A.I. in our community?
All of this to say, if you are tempted to use A.I. (or steal someone else's work) to produce a story in the Freewriters Community
(pretty)
please
DON'T!
A.I. may have its uses, but not in our community.
So please:
Respect other users of the Freewriters Community
Respect yourself
Don't use A.I. in our community
Thank you!
We are looking forward to reading your posts!
Keep on Freewriting!
I'm not really against AI as a technology, but I am against the assumprion of fair-use that most AI bots seem to be using. On here, things are more tricky because hardly anyone puts a copuright notice on their posts here.
Could it be an idea to protect the community by making a default copyright status for posts in the community?
Maybe see if we can add a "web" flavor to the Open-world Licence and make that flavour the community default?
I feel anyone that's been caught posting AI related should be warned, since you said you have noticed most of those posts are from new persons and if they continue even after drawing their attention to it, then they should be banned from posting in the community.
If strict actions are being taken, others will learn from it.
Totally agree, my friend @freewritehouse. Now, I have noticed that in the writer's native language, the text, when passed through the AI detector, says it is human-generated, but when translated into English, for example, the detector states that it is AI-generated. When I write in English and with the help of an online translator, I have had this happen to me. To avoid this, I have had to edit the translation in either language. I am finishing level 8/10 in French, when I use the online translator for French, the detector says 100% human written. It has only happened to me when translating the text, either from Spanish to English or vice versa.
I'd definitely suggest posting your original version, along with the translation. I think translators probably put in grammar and spelling edits, but I'm not sure.
This is my community where I feel better writing, I could not be my days without writing in the daily prompt of the day, it has helped me a lot to be a better writer and increased a lot how and at what speed I write, I wish you many blessings on the way and that it continues to work as well as now.
I completely agree. What's the point of writing a story if you're not going to write it yourself, adding interest, drama, and laughter? This reminder of the rules is good; there are many tools curators can use to detect AI-written facts, but it undermines the value of some people's contributions.
Thanks for this man. Much ❤️
I'd prefer to see all of the writing on Hive be original. That being said, if they're not posting to a community that forbids it, it should be acceptable for part of a post so long as that part is clearly marked as being written by AI.
If credit isn't given to the computer, that should be dealt with.
Agreed. However, in our community, AI-generated stories are not allowed (rule 2).
Exactly :) I'm glad too, because it really doesn't add much to a creative post. I can see the value of using it in short snippets for something that requires some research, but we really don't see those types of posts in Freewriters.
The topic of AIs in #hive has brought a lot of opinions, indeed despite the warnings they always get, it seems that now even more so. It seems that there is a disregard to this, they don't care about being crossed out or they are protected because there are still publications voted.
I vote for the publications of our own creativity in each community that participates, it is important to keep the brain creating and exposing our ideas equally respected by others.
