Forever Blossoms

in Freewriters6 days ago (edited)

I have fond memories of my childhood.
There are the painful ones, undoubtedly.
But there are also the truly glorious ones.
I thought of myself when I was little as a beautiful, dark skinned girl who had blossoming flowers springing forth wherever she walked.
I still think of myself that way. But the flowers aren’t always so brightly yellow or pink.
Sometimes, the flowers are the colour of midnight, that is so dark, yet one of the prettiest shades of blue you can ever find.

Sometimes the flowers have cutting edges that need the utmost level of delicate handling, else their fragility bleeds onto the surface.
But even in that fragility holds power immeasurable.
I’ve always loved being a girl. I think it’s one of the things I would say, that in a million lifetimes, I would always want to come as a girl child.

We are strong in all our forms, beautiful in every colour, resilient in every of life’s battles, and sometimes we cry so hard, it feels like we may never get up from the pits of despair.
But then, we do get up. We pick up the pieces, and we try again.
Forever amazed at how formidable our will power is.
So powerful that there is warmth in our coldness.
And strength in our weaknesses.

Being a girl child means beauty.
Beauty indescribable. Beauty unimaginable.
But our worth far transcends beauty in physicality.
There’s beauty in our minds. Beauty in the way we walk. Beauty in the way we talk. Beauty in our power to build. Beauty in our power to lead. Beauty in our power to give life. Beauty in our power to stand firm. Beauty in our power to grow. Beauty in our ability to leave such lasting impact that our footprints become legacies that evolve through time and season, yet never losing its seasoning.

We are the girl child. Strong. Hearty. Tried and true. Lifting others even when we ourselves feel blue.

Today is celebrating the girl child.
And a smile remains on my face, because no matter our stories, no matter our ordeals, no matter the decades and ages we live on this earth, we will always remain a girl child.
The same girl child who lights up the path before her, while still holding up a flame for the path behind her.
The same girl child whose feet brings out the prettiest of blossoms beneath her, and a fortress of resistance for the dark clouds above her.

Cheers to the girl child! Resilient. Unapologetic. Power in our hands. Wisdom in our minds. Fire in our souls.
May we never lose our spark. And may we always stay true to who we are.
Today. Tomorrow. Always.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child!💕
