Fledgling: Part 24

Greetings All

Only a short update before we dive back into knowing what happened to the twins that are with Aidan and Bolx.

“As you said, the good outweighs the bad. There are nights I can’t stand to have either of them touch me, and they leave our bed to give me space. Then there are nights that I actively seek out to have both surround me in their protective arms. The relationship is unconventional, and most of the population doesn’t understand why they have two kings. Still, with Aidan inheriting the throne and his siblings being female, most of those that are anti our family unit are quiet.”
“Must be quite a bed to have the three of you in it.”

“It’s enough.” Kay looked at Saita with a knowing look, “You reacted surprised when Kartec called me Kay. I take it you eventually found out who you were.”
“In more than one way. I know my birthname, I know who my parents are, but I still prefer to go by Saita.”

“I changed my name to Kay not too long ago, a way to give up on my past, but that’s not the only reason you reacted. It wasn’t a pleasant surprise to you. It was one of horror. Come, tell me more about what has happened to you since we last saw each other.”

Saita sighed and said, “It’s a really, really long story.”

“I’ve got nothing but time, but perhaps we should welcome you back rather than just hiding you away here.”

Saita chuckled, “That’s not necessary. I can’t stay. I need to find a way to return to the rest of those who were with me.”

“Realistically, do you know how to do that?”

“No…”

“Then for now stay and recover. We will also have to see how Meedus recovers. And honestly, at the end of the day, you saved my life, and I don’t like owing anyone anything. We’ll work this out. However, I can tell you’re exhausted. Let’s pick this up after you have slept a little.”

Saita sighed. Kay was right, she was exhausted, and her body ached from her fall through the different timescapes. She needed to rest.

“Help me up and I’ll instruct some servants to prepare a bed for you. Your existence is known, so don’t worry about remaining hidden once you wake.”

“Thank you. This really isn’t necessary.”

“If it wasn’t necessary, you wouldn’t have tried to reach out to me as you had. We both know that. Our lives may differ dramatically, but we think the same. Don’t be too proud to admit that you need help. After 100 years of not seeing your husband is difficult, I can understand that, and seeing me like this must hurt, but you know I am right. Let us help you.”

Saita gritted her teeth and nodded her head. She was holding back a lot of her emotions, and it was exhausting. Something Kay had said earlier had lodged in her brain. She knew that Bolx was a Saith name. With no war between the humans and Kai, there was a chance that Bolx was still alive.

That hurt her heart because even if he still lived, he would have no idea who she was, and likely had his own family. She cursed herself for thinking like that and got out of her seat to help the queen to her feet.

“You are so comfortable with me showing my face, I don’t think I would have been if I had been in your shoes.”

Kay shrugged her shoulders and said, “After what the population went through with Edzeeker, nothing surprises them anymore.”

The queen then surprised Saita by cupping her marred right cheek and running her thumb over the area where her eye had once been. It had taken multiple surgeries to make her face look somewhat human again after the Fell Dragon had almost torn it from her skull.

“I would like to know more about the Fell Dragon that did this to you.”

“Wait, you know what a Fell Dragon is?” Saita hadn’t mentioned the creature at all.

The queen grinned knowingly and released her, “Come, let’s get you a room to rest in. It would seem that we have more to talk about than what I first thought.”

What has Queen Kay learned of the Fell Dragons and will it help Saita with the predicament that she is in now? Who knows, guess you'll have to read further.
