This is my post for #freewriters 2270 prompt purple spotted tongue hosted by @mariannewest

All of these years later it still blows my mind that they would let a 17-year-old child leave the hospital with a 3-day-old baby after giving birth, they figured they had taught me all that I needed to know in the 3 days after I gave birth to her. Back then the baby did not stay in the room with the mother, it was brought to you at feeding times so you did not have a lot of time with your baby before going home.

She was a couple of months old when one day I noticed white patches on her tongue, I am freaking out, about what is causing these to be in my baby's mouth. She did not want to nurse and was very fussy. I called her doctor and talked to the nurse she told me my baby had thrush and she would have the doctor call in a prescription for it and for me to use it as directed, there was no need to go to the office.

I went to the pharmacy picked up the medicine went home, and squirted some in her mouth, she did not only have a purple spotted tongue but her entire mouth was purple and my hand turned purple where I spilled it on myself, but it worked.

Months later my baby was having a terrible time with teething and the doctor wanted me to buy a small bottle of whiskey to put a little on a washcloth and rub it on her gums, I was not old enough to buy whiskey so he prescribed for me to get a small bottle of it. I doubt if a doctor would do this today.

Those days were the good days, nowadays you had to call the office, push whichever number for whichever department, leave a message, and hope they get back to you sometime this week.

I was a young mom of 19. It was so very different back then.

Yes it was.
