This is my post for #freewriters 2334 prompt bear with me hosted by @mariannewest

Yesterday I was sitting here going through the old record albums I bought at the yard sale and wishing I had bought them all. So I called my sister about an hour before dark and asked if she would run back to the yard sale where I bought the records, It was about a half of a mile from her house. She said she would do it. When she got there the sale was closed so she knocked on the door, she said the lady was cooking supper but was happy to come out and get the records. Later she called me and said she got them for me. The lady wanted 5 dollars for them, but my sister knowing what I would do, gave the lady 10 for them.

Now bear with me before you say why in the world would she offer more money than the lady told her. Last week we went to this same sale, the lady told us she would be pulling more things out all week and would still have the sale this weekend. She was selling things at the prices that used to be at yard sales, like 25 cents for clothes, when I bought the 11 albums, one being the Woodstock album, she charged me 3 dollars but I gave her 5. I could tell she appreciated it.

After paying for the first records yesterday, we talked while my sister was still looking around. She told me that her husband had passed away and she was having a hard time because he took care of all of the bills and now without his income, she could no longer keep their home and was having to move in with a relative.

This is how things have always worked for me. Several weeks ago I wrote about cleaning my closet and going through all of my old record albums, and how I used to have the Woodstock album and wished that I still had it, now I found one at a yard sale and the lady only wanted 25 cents for it.

Another thing is, my sister in law told me that she has a box of old Elvis albums that she did not know what she was going to do with. I offered to buy them, but she said no she was going to hang onto them, now I have about 20 Elvis albums that I got from the yard sale.

As an avid collector who's since retired from the hobby, I'm in awe of the Woodstock and other albums you were able to acquire. And Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Unique finds. I can see why you enlisted your sister to return. Offering more than the asking price was a sincere token of appreciation, especially knowing the value of these items.

I'm attempting a minimalist lifestyle. However, I will not give up my 60s singles and 70s albums.

I hope the items are in good shape. To have the covers still intact is excellent. Enjoy your finds. I can hear the groups now.

Thanks for sharing. Take care and have a good rest of your week.

@justclickindiva, I hear you about not wanting to get rid of them, I can not part with mine either.

Some of the covers are in good shape but I would say most are not, but it does not matter to me, I am more of a listener than a collector. I have boxes and boxes of albums, They range from classic rock, country, pop, rock, and children's albums it is a variety of music, and it depends on my mood as to which I feel like listening. I have some orchestra albums but I have to be in a special mood for them.

I bought the Woodstock album when I was in my teens but my Dad busted it after hearing the Fish song play and I have always wanted another one, I wish the cover to it was in better shape, but I am thankful to have it no matter the condition.

IDK if you have ever heard of it but another one I was glad to find at a thrift store is the Disney Sounds of Halloween album, when my children were small one of them broke the one I had and could not believe that I found another one and it had no scratches and the cover looks good.

Thank you for your comment.

Wow, you do have a rare collection of listening material for any mood. That I like. I didn't know of Disney's Sounds of Halloween. Once I reached adulthood, I didn't immediately take my music and all other memorabilia with me when I moved out on my own. Unfortunately, my parents' home suffered a fire that destroyed all contents. At the time, they were away from home. I was thankful they weren't injured; but devastated my and my siblings' entire childhood memories were gone in an instant.

That's life. I've attempted to locate over the years some items. Other family members have a few items, but weren't collectors like my mom, and me when young.

Thanks so much for sharing your music listening pleasure. I appreciate it and your engagement. Take care.

The loss of your childhood items brought tears to my eyes, but I am also thankful that no one was at home. When my mother was a child she lost her mother, her mother's unborn child, and a brother to their house fire. My Mother her 6 sisters and one brother made it out, her father was at work. I can not imagine losing my mother at that young age, I lost her 3 years ago and it is so hard not having her here.

I hope one day you can find something equal to the things you lost, it does bring a little joy back to your life like the records did mine.

This is the Disney album, it is the same as mine,

I was just too lazy to dig it out to take a picture of it so I copied it from

My condolences also for the loss of your mother three years ago. I didn't know it had been that recent. The Disney albums looks interesting.

For the present, I have stopped collecting, as I'm now a senior citizen and practicing (or trying my best to) a minimalist lifestyle.

Thanks for the support of my Profile. Take care.
