There's usually a smidgen of reality interwoven within all of my fictional pieces... a life of regret is one way of putting it.

But perhaps that what makes it beautiful. We can relate to sorrow and despair more intimately than we can do with happiness.

I like a quote by Kafka a lot that goes here—

"I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound or stab us. If the book we're reading doesn't wake us up with a blow to the head, what are we reading for?"
