Ian sat in his high deckchair, surveying the landscape in front of him, It was sparse, quite barren really, a few small bushes and rocks scattered here and there, looked like sandy soil but was actually quite rich in Iron but was thin and dusty, a bit like Talc.

This was where Ian had found himself after having travelled many many miles with his job, well it was more than a job, it was his Career, his passion, his hobby, and his livelihood.

Ian had become a magnate of sorts, well a billionaire and a great mining identity, in fact many companies had come and gone and yet Ian still survived, Ian did not own a company or business of sorts, he was a freelancer, a well sorted after freelancer.

The head hunting began years ago when he was a young man, he had discovered a vein of tripoleum when he was still a teenager, so long ago he could no longer remember exactly where or what it was worth in dollar terms, however it was the start of his career and its net worth in terms of the enjoyment he found is evident in his now current bank balance.

Ian loved his work, he got to travel all over, initially the world and then when he invested in space travel, all over the Universe. Space Travel was the best investment he had ever made. As the fossil fuels on Earth dried up new sources of energy, building materials and even food needed to be discovered and utilised so that the legacy of mankind could continue to survive.

This sparse quite barren landscape that he now found himself was going to net him an even greater wealth than investments of the past.

Ian wasn’t getting any younger, in fact he was now in his 70’s and although very fit and healthy, knew that he did not have too much longer, maybe another 30 years, where he could find something he had longed for many years, and that was someone he could pass all this onto, someone with the same passion, the same desires and the same ethos as he had.

This longing he now found himself with helped him to make the decision he was disturbed by.
I need to go back to Earth Ian said and abruptly lifted himself out of his Deckchair and towards his craft.

Once in his vehicle, he opened the memory gateway and relaxed into the disorientation of his living memories and the downloaded memories he was able to obtain from the Cloud when earth imploded and became a galaxy of dust particles forever floating in the space it once occupied.

Ahh memories. As Ian floated through the knowledge of what had been and what was he stumbled across a memory of when he was 19 years Old, his first contract with one of the main mining corporations of the time.

He pictured in his hand the contract which would set him up for financial wealth and a life of never having to look back, also in his hand was an essay he had written on the condition of Humankind and the cultural diversity that aided in social intervention of conglomerate destruction.

On the essay was the mark, in red, FAILED, and the comments, Had you handed this essay in on time this would most certainly have been a high distinction,
"Ian it is a shame you have your head in the clouds at times, because if you applied yourself you will most certainly become worthy of a Nobel Prize for your contribution to Human survival in a world that is being destroyed by greed and disdain for the planet we live on".
