The Deadly Race

The race begins, fierce and wild,
Everyone struggling as fate reviled,
Running helter-skelter and fleeing to be spared,
From chaos but none are prepared.

Bullets slice the air with rage,
Bodies fall as their lives upstage,
A cry to run and a plea to stay,
Escape this deadly race today.

Boom, boom, the echoes loom,
Carrying whispers of impending doom.
The faces pale as hearts pound in haste,
All trapped in this frantic chase.

Desperation fuels each stride,
Hope and fear now coincide,
Seeking refuge and finding none,
The maze of danger just begun.

Crash! A bullet finds my arm,
Still, I fight to stay unharmed.
Pain erupts, but I press on,
A fleeting glimpse of dawn.

Steady breath, endure the storm,
In this madness, stay reborn.
Nearly free from death’s cruel gaze,
Out of the shadow of this deadly race.

What an intense poem. I love the rhythm and rhyme and how you used it to carry the theme of desperation. I also liked how you blended desperation and hope. Nice write.

I'm glad you like it. Thanks for stopping by.
