Nomad Hive - The accommodation by the river and some technical problems with the natural refrigerator. / El alojamiento al costado del río y algunos problemas técnicos con la heladera natural. 😅❤️

Finding a campsite that wasn't too expensive was a real challenge: the Southern Highway is incredibly beautiful, and of course everyone knows it, so most of the surrounding land is private. This meant we had to find campsites in certain areas, as there weren't even free spaces to get to the riverbank by car. Another factor to keep in mind was that the campsite had to be relatively nice, since we were paying for it. Luckily, we found one that met those requirements, although we still had some problems.

Encontrar algún lugar para acampar que no fuera tan costoso era toda una odisea: la Carretera Austral es muy hermosa y por supuesto que todos lo saben, por lo que la mayoría de todos los terrenos lindantes son privados. Esto nos obligaba a tener que buscar campings si o sí en determinadas zonas, ya que ni siquiera había espacios libres en donde bajar a la costa del río con el auto. Otra cuestión a tener en cuenta era que el camping fuera relativamente lindo, ya que íbamos a pagar por él. Por suerte, encontramos uno que cumplió con esas condiciones, aunque igualemnte tuvimos algunos problemas.

We were on our way to our next stop, Puyuhuapi, when we came across a sign for another interesting place: Queulat National Park. We had no idea what there was to see there, but after doing some research, we learned there was an interesting glacier worth seeing up close. We wanted to go there, but it was late and the park closed at 5 PM, and we needed to get a ticket in advance. We still had over 20 km to go to the town, so we used the foolproof technique of camping nearby so we could go early the next day.

Estábamos en camino a nuestra siguiente parada en Puyuhuapi, cuando al pasar nos encontramos con el cartel de otro lugar interesante: el Parque Nacional Queulat. No sabíamos que había para ver en ese lugar, y después de investigar un poco, nos enteramos de que había un glaciar interesante para ver de cerca. Quisimos ir en ese momento, pero era tarde y el parque cerraba a las 5 PM, además de que era necesario sacar la entrada con anticipación. Todavía nos faltaban más de 20 km para llegar al pueblo, así que usamos la técnica infalible de acampar en un lugar cercano para poder ir temprano al día siguiente.

The problem was that all the campsites near the park entrance were simple, unremarkable lots, where you had to pay $8 just to stay there and use the bathroom. Driving a little further, we found another campsite that looked more upscale, with a river tub, and that cost $10. Paying a little more for a better location seemed like a good idea, and we were still close enough to the park to avoid having to get up so early later.

El problema fue que todos los campings cercanos a la entrada al parque eran simples terrenos sin nada especial, en los que había que pagar $8 solo por estar ahí y usar el baño. Manejando un poco más, encontramos otro camping que se veía más elegante, con bajada al rio y que costaba $10. Pagar un poco más por una mejor ubicación nos pareció buena idea, y todavía estábamos bastante cerca del parque como para no tener que levantarnos tan temprano luego.

The location was beautiful, and we arrived just at sunset to see how the landscape changed as the sun set. However, despite the beautiful location, the camping facilities left much to be desired. At first glance, it was beautiful, but the bathrooms were dirty, the showers only had hot water in the morning, and there were no lights or electrical outlets anywhere other than a central cabin. This was a space with tables and chairs for shelter in case of rain. It had a kitchen, but not for campers' use. It closed at 10 PM, so you had to rush to charge your phone. In the end, it was almost like camping in nature, except that at least there was a bathroom, and we had to pay to stay there.

La ubicación era hermosa, y justo llegamos al atardecer para ver como iba cambiando el paisaje a medida que el sol se ocultaba. Sin embargo, a pesar del lugar lindo, las instalaciones de camping dejaban mucho que desear. A simple vista era hermoso, pero los baños estaban sucios, solo había agua caliente en las duchas por la mañana y no había luz ni tomacorrientes en ningún otro lado que no sea una cabaña central. Este era un espacio con mesas y sillas como para refugiarse un poco en caso de lluvia, que contaba con una cocina pero no para uso de los acampantes, y cerraba a las 10 PM, por lo que tenías que apurarte a cargar tu teléfono. Al final, fue casi como acampar en la naturaleza, con la diferencia de que al menos habia un baño y que tuvimos que pagar por estar ahí.

Another inconvenience we encountered, but at least it was funny, was that we had chilled some drinks in the river, just like the last time we camped. By the time we went to check on them, the river level had risen so much that they were drowned far from the shore. We had to perform a rescue operation to retrieve them, which included submerging our legs above the knee in the icy water, but we succeeded in the end (well, I didn't do anything; I just watched from the sidelines and laughed).

Otro inconveniente que tuvimos, pero que al menos resultó gracioso, fue que habíamos puesto a enfriar unas bebidas en el río como en la última vez acampando. Para cuando fuimos a verlas, el nivel del río había subido tanto que quedaron ahogadas ya muy lejos de la orilla. Tuvimos que hacer una operación de rescate para recuperarlas, que incluyó meter las piernas hasta más de la rodilla en el agua helada, pero al final triunfamos (bueno, yo no hice nada, solo miré desde afuera y me reía).

Although I'm not very used to camping, I enjoyed the dynamics of finding a spot, setting up the tent, and everything else. I like these simple but funny anecdotes so much that I think about whether I should get my own tent just in case. The best part was that we saved a lot on accommodations with this and were able to invest in other things like tours or more drinks. After this sequence with the natural cooler, we were much more careful.

Si bien no estoy muy acostumbrada a acampar, me gustaba la dinámica de tener que encontrar un lugar, armar la carpa y todo lo demás. Estas anécdotas sencillas pero divertidas me gustan, tanto que pienso en si debería tener mi propia carpa por si acaso. Lo mejor de todo fue que ahorramos bastante en alojamiento con esto y pudimos invertir en otras cosas como paseos o más bebidas. Después de esta secuencia con la heladera natural, tuvimos mucho más cuidado.
