In 2015, I got a nice fellowship to go on a course during my doctorate studies in Cambridge UK. I spent 1 week at the Sanger Institute studying and learning new bioinformatics techniques with renowned professors. I had just one spare afternoon to explore the city by itself. It is bad that most of the pics of this trip are gone since I used my regular digital camera and I had an accident with that memory card. I could recover some nice pictures which are stored somewhere in the hard drive but not all of them. Cambridge is a city focused on studies. The clothing shops are focused on university thematic, and you can see students and professors' dressing accessories. So interesting.

  Many of the great scientists in human history passed through this town and lived there. And there are landmarks associated with these big names in the scientific world. One of them is The Eagle pub. I passed by and couldn't have a beer there because it was full. In the en,d me and other students bought some beer in a cheap market and drank it in the streets. But why The Eagle is so famous?

  The spot became famous when two researchers James Watson and Francis Crick used to meet there to discuss something that shook the scientific world. They proposed the known double helix model of the DNA. If you are a biologist or in the health area you will hear a lot about them. That happened in 1953. So that draw that everyone recognizes as a representation of the DNA is because of them! They got a Nobel Prize for that in 1962. Well, maybe not all the credits should go to these guys.

  In my latest contest, again only @ladyaryastark participated! Well, more hsbi for her! And she brought an amazing text honoring the Women's International Day during this month talking about Marie Curie , maybe one of the most famous physicists in our history with the same importance of Einstein and Newton. Because of that I wanted also to honor one of my big heroic personalities in biological sciences who didn't win the same merits compared to Marie Curie.

  The model proposed by Watson and Crick was a result of Franklin's work. She did the experimentation that resulted in the visualization of the double DNA helix by X-ray crystallography. So the model proposed by the two guys was based on her published results. She didn't get the Nobel Prize of 1962, and the official excuse is that Nobel Prizes aren't given after the death of the candidates. She died in 1958 of ovarian cancer. But some people say that she wouldn't get a prize since before the 1962 prize, only 3 women were awarded the Nobel Prize, one of them Marie Curie. It was a tough era for women to be recognized in science.

  Em 2015, ganhei uma bolsa bacana para fazer um curso durante meus estudos de doutorado em Cambridge, Reino Unido. Passei 1 semana no Instituto Sanger estudando e aprendendo novas técnicas de bioinformática com professores renomados. Tive apenas uma tarde livre para explorar a cidade por conta própria. É ruim que a maioria das fotos dessa viagem tenha sumido, pois usei minha câmera digital comum e tive um acidente com o cartão de memória. Consegui recuperar algumas fotos legais que estão armazenadas em algum lugar do disco rígido, mas não todas. Cambridge é uma cidade focada em estudos. As lojas de roupas são focadas em temática universitária, e você pode ver os acessórios de vestimenta dos alunos e professores. Tão interessante.

  Muitos dos grandes cientistas da história da humanidade passaram por esta cidade e viveram lá. E há marcos associados a esses grandes nomes do mundo científico. Um deles é o pub The Eagle. Passei por lá e não pude tomar uma cerveja porque estava cheio. No final, eu e outros estudantes compramos cerveja em um mercado barato e bebemos nas ruas. Mas por que The Eagle é tão famoso?

Eles propuseram o conhecido modelo de dupla hélice do DNA. Se você é biólogo ou da área da saúde, ouvirá muito sobre eles. Isso aconteceu em 1953. Então, aquele desenho que todos reconhecem como uma representação do DNA é por causa deles! Eles ganharam um Prêmio Nobel por isso em 1962. E ela trouxe um texto incrível homenageando o Dia Internacional da Mulher neste mês falando sobre Marie Curie , talvez uma das físicas mais famosas da nossa história com a mesma importância de Einstein e Newton. Por isso eu queria também homenagear uma das minhas grandes personalidades heroicas nas ciências biológicas que não ganhou os mesmos méritos comparados a Marie Curie.
