Habt ihr schon mal daran gedacht, ein VPN zu nutzen? Braucht man heutzutage ein VPN?
Fast jedes YouTube-Video wird mittlerweile von einem der großen VPN-Provider gesponsert.
VPN steht für Virtual Private Network und ermöglicht sozusagen einen Tunnel zu einem anderen Netzwerk / Standort aufzubauen.
Man surft im Prinzip mit einem VPN, als würde man einen Internet-Anschluss irgendwo anders auf der Welt verwenden.
Das hat zwei große Vorteile, erstens surft man damit anonymer, da man gegenüber den Web-Servern nicht seine eigene IP-Adresse verwendet und zweitens kann man damit Geoblocking und Zensur umgehen.
Zum Beispiel könnte man mit einem VPN auf amerikanische Streaming-Seiten zugreifen oder auf KI-Services von Google, die lange Zeit in der EU geogeblockt wurden.
Andererseits entstehen durch ein VPN zusätzliche Kosten und man könnte wiederum vom VPN-Provider überwacht werden. Auch die Internetgeschwindigkeit könnte sich durch ein VPN verlangsamen.
Was meint ihr? Habt ihr schon mal daran gedacht, ein VPN zu nutzen oder nutzt ihr bereits eines? Wofür?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and allows you to create a tunnel to another network/location, so to speak.
In principle, you surf with a VPN as if you were using an Internet connection somewhere else in the world.
This has two major advantages: firstly, you can surf more anonymously, as you do not use your own IP address with the web servers, and secondly, you can circumvent geoblocking and censorship.
For example, you could use a VPN to access European streaming sites from the U.S. or Europeans could access Google's AI services, which have long been geo-blocked in the EU.
On the other hand, a VPN incurs additional costs and you could be monitored by the VPN provider. A VPN could also slow down your internet speed.

Benutze seit mehreren Jahren VPN insb in Flughäfen, Hotels, Malls etc. Für Geoblocking ist es ebenfalls top. Die kostenlosen Varianten sind tatsächlich langsamer, muss man also abwägen was man damit anstellen will ;)
Nutze ich immer mal wieder. Zum Beispiel wenn Servus TV Österreich Championsleague zeigt. Mit deutscher IP kommt dann ansonsten nämlich irgendeine Doku.

Oh cool, das ist praktisch, hoffe dass die EU nicht auch noch VPNs reguliert oder verbietet.
Bis dahin hat man hoffentlich schon etwas neues erfunden 😅
Proton VPN nutze ich auch, z. B. um mich auf den Philippinen in Binance einzuloggen, verschiedene Sportwettenseiten zu nutzen oder deutsche Filme zu sehen.

I don't use one for normal use but I do use it depending on what I am doing.
vpn is good to do certain stuff, i use it to search for pirated games or movies where country bans the sites
Es gibt auch kostenlose VPN, aber in der Regel sind diese langsam.
Lustig, denn gestern hatte ich dran gedacht das einer gut wäre, aber nur damit ich Höhle der Löwen gucken kann, neee zu teuer. Dann mache ich das erst nächste Woche.
Theoretisch könnte ich auch meinen Server irgendwie dafür nutzen, aber k.a. wie und das wäre dann zu viel Aufwand.
Kenne paar die Nord VPN nutzen, aber weiß nicht wie deren Erfahrung mit ist.

Der Brave Browser bietet jetzt auch ein kostenpflichtiges VPN an. Den eigenen Server für ein VPN zu nutzen macht zum Surfen aber wenig Sinn, außer dieser steht irgendwo anders auf der Welt um Geoblocking zu umgehen, oder?
Aktuell bräuchte ich ja einen aus D und dort müsste meiner glaube stehen, zumindest in der EU.
Aber ich schaue es mir einfach nächste Woche an.
Theoretisch kann ich auch per Remote auf meinen PC und das dort laufen lassen, könnte auch funktionieren wenn das Internet schnell genug ist !LOL

I’ve used VPN before
There was a website we Nigerians didn’t have access to so I had to use VPN for it
I haused it in the past to circumvent geoblocking for some streaming. Not using it anymore at the moment as I'm not streaming anymore.
Will probably use it once again if I want to access certain websites.
Habe die info vor kurzem von jemanden bekommen, weil wir wegen serien im netz die mancherorts gesperrt sind darüber gesprochen haben.
Selber ausprobiert habe ich es noch nicht, aber vielleicht interessiert es ja jemanden. Planet vpn wurde mir empfohlen.

I did actually think of using VPN some months ago when I discovered that my region has been banned from a lot of sites ie geoblocked but the cost was a major barrier for me.
The truth is that I don't use VPN, especially because it slows down connections a lot, but in the long term it will become more essential, I'm afraid.
Good point, with ever growing censorship and surveillance it might become essential in the future.
I haven't had the need for a VPN before, so I haven't given it much thought.
I don't see myself using a VPN anytime in the near future.

I have been tempted to use VPN when I wanted to access some survey sites which had banned my country from participating but I dismissed the idea because I felt it was cumbersome.
I use mine most of the time. I prefer having the added privacy. It can slow speed a little, but not enough to be a problem in most cases. Cost wise you can get a good one for around $10 US a month, which is horrible. There are cheaper options but they are cheaper for a reason!
With the entailing additional cost and slowing down my internet speed I am not going to use a VPN.
