Illovo Beach Club17 May 2024
During our family holiday to Durban earlier this year, we had the pleasure of staying at
Illovo beach club as our second accommodation spot and it truly was the perfect spot for a lovely seaside escape. Our chalet, located on the ground floor, offered breathtaking view of the ocean. It really was our piece of paradise and became the perfect home-away-from-home.
Before we got unpacked and things started to get messy, I snapped a few photos. The space was charming as well as comfortable with decor inspired by the sea. The blue and white colour scheme, with accents of seashells and fish captured the coastal vibes perfectly.
My favourite detail by far, were these awesome surfboard shaped "Please tidy up my room" and "Please do not disturb signs. Such a fun and fitting detail.
Right outside our room was a ver cool swing bench, the perfect spot to sit and read a book or enjoy your morning coffee while watching the waves come and go in the distance. I don't think I got a picture of the actual bench but for some reason took way too many close-ups of the chains holding it up, they just seemed like a cool photo op at the time. I did however spend a lot of time swinging on the bench while enjoying my holiday book.
*Illovo Beach club* was the ideal spot for a cosy getaway by the sea. I think the only downside for us was the amount of stairs, there were no rooms that you didn't have to climb a number of stairs to get to and then to the pool area, two flights of unreasonably steep stairs. These would not have been an issue other than the fact that we had Ouma with us and she struggled tremendously with the stairs that she ended up spending all the time in the room and just conquering the stairs (With help) when it was time to head home.
.
So keep this in mind, I don't think it is a great place for people in wheel chairs, walkers or who are a bit older and have some difficulty with stairs and walking. If you wanted to play bingo or Chess or get to the pool or games room it was all a trek up flights of steep, uneven stairs.
The service and the staff were all fantastic though, they had all sorts of fun activities to keep the adults and the children entertained. We missed out on the bingo competition but we did do the 5km beach walk early one Saturday morning.
So if you want to head to the beach everyday and simply sleep in your chalet or spend your days lounging by the pool or reading in the swinging bench, Illovo Beach Club has something for everyone!
Thank you for a lovely stay!
