Adverse Weather Path 155, San Liberale Valley, Monte Grappa - Discovering Italy with alequandro!

Even though it was a bit late, I had just finished lunch, I decided to undertake this walk along path 155 which would take me to the San Liberale lookout, starting from an altitude of 600 meters and hoping to reach 1470 meters above sea level of the sea. The San Liberale Valley had always fascinated me with its uncontaminated nature and the view that rose in search of the rocky peaks of the Monte Grappa massif.

I left in the early afternoon, armed with a backpack, hiking boots and palpable enthusiasm. The path began gently, passing by the restaurant right next to the car park and then climbing along a paved road. The sun illuminated the street with a warm golden light, creating an atmosphere of serenity. The birds singing and the scent of the trees enveloped me, making me forget about the outside world.

Anche se era un po' tardi, avevo appena finito di pranzare, ho deciso di intraprendere questa camminata lungo il sentiero 155 che mi avrebbe portato alla Vedetta San Liberale, partendo da un'altitudine di 600 metri e sperando di raggiungere i 1470 metri sul livello del mare. La Valle San Liberale mi aveva sempre affascinato con la sua natura incontaminata e la vista che si alzava alla ricerca delle cime rocciose del massiccio del Monte Grappa.

Partii nel primo pomeriggio, armato di zaino, scarponi da trekking e un entusiasmo palpabile. Il sentiero iniziava dolcemente, passando a fianco al ristorante proprio vicino al parcheggio delle auto per poi salire lungo una strada asfaltata. Il sole illuminava la strada con una luce calda e dorata, creando un'atmosfera di serenità. Il canto degli uccelli e il profumo degli alberi mi avvolgevano, facendomi dimenticare del mondo esterno.

As I gained altitude, the view became more and more spectacular. I could see the valley below with its quaint villages and farmlands as far as the eye could see. The light wind caressed my face, and I felt in tune with the surrounding nature.

Trail 155 proved to be an ideal companion: well signposted and maintained.

Man mano che guadagnavo quota, la vista si faceva sempre più spettacolare. Potevo vedere la valle sottostante con i suoi paesini pittoreschi e i campi coltivati a perdita d'occhio. Il vento leggero accarezzava il mio viso, e mi sentivo in sintonia con la natura circostante.

Il sentiero 155 si rivelò un compagno ideale: ben segnalato e mantenuto.

Walking with a firm step, I came to a point where the path opened onto a wide open space, it was a perfect place for a short break, so I sat down on a stone and contemplated the landscape that stretched out before me.

Camminando con passo deciso, arrivai a un punto in cui il sentiero si apriva su un ampio spiazzo, era un luogo perfetto per una breve pausa, così mi sedetti su una pietra e contemplai il panorama che si estendeva davanti a me.

However, as I was enjoying that moment of tranquility, I began to sense a change in the air. The sky, which until recently had been clear and blue, was gradually darkening. I look up and notice rain clouds gathering on the horizon. There was something unsettling about that scene, as if nature was trying to tell me something.

Tuttavia, mentre stavo godendo di quel momento di tranquillità, cominciai a percepire un cambiamento nell'aria. Il cielo, che fino a poco prima era limpido e azzurro, si stava gradualmente oscurando. Alzo lo sguardo e noto nuvole cariche di pioggia che si addensano all'orizzonte. C'era qualcosa di inquietante in quella scena, come se la natura stesse cercando di comunicarmi qualcosa.

I decided to continue walking, hoping to reach the San Liberale Lookout before the rain got heavier. However, time was not on my side. As soon as I found myself on the most exposed part of the path, the first drops of rain began to fall. I was not prepared for this eventuality and found myself seeking shelter under a tree. The rain intensified rapidly, turning the trail into a trail of mud and making every step difficult.

I decided to continue walking, hoping to reach the San Liberale Lookout before the rain got heavier. However, time was not on my side. As soon as I found myself on the most exposed part of the path, the first drops of rain began to fall. I was not prepared for this eventuality and found myself seeking shelter under a tree. The rain intensified rapidly, turning the path into a small stream.

Decisi di riprendere il cammino, sperando di raggiungere la Vedetta San Liberale prima che la pioggia si facesse più intensa. Tuttavia, il tempo non era dalla mia parte. Appena mi trovai sulla parte più esposta del sentiero, le prime gocce di pioggia iniziarono a cadere. Non ero preparato per questa eventualità e mi ritrovai a cercare riparo sotto un albero. La pioggia si intensificò rapidamente, trasformando il sentiero in un piccolo ruscello.

I realized that continuing in those conditions would not be safe. With regret and a tinge of frustration, I made the difficult decision to turn around. I had waited so long for this excursion, but nature had decided otherwise. And so, with a broken heart at not having been able to reach the San Liberale lookout, I began to go back along the path.

Mi resi conto che continuare in quelle condizioni non sarebbe stato sicuro. Con dispiacere e una punta di frustrazione, presi la difficile decisione di fare dietrofront. Avevo aspettato tanto questa escursione, ma la natura aveva deciso diversamente. E così, con il cuore affranto per non aver potuto raggiungere la Vedetta San Liberale, iniziai a tornare indietro lungo il sentiero.

The pouring rain only added to the challenge of the hike, but the disappointment at not being able to complete the hike was even greater. However, as I descended, I reflect on the fact that every adventure brings his lessons. Even though I hadn't reached my goal, I still had a unique experience.

La pioggia battente non faceva che aumentare la sfida del cammino, ma la delusione per non essere riuscito a completare l'escursione era ancora più grande. Tuttavia, mentre scendevo, rifletto sul fatto che ogni avventura porta con sé le sue lezioni. Anche se non avevo raggiunto la mia meta, avevo comunque vissuto un'esperienza unica.

When I finally reached the starting point, I was wet and tired, but also satisfied that I had faced the adversity of nature. I realized that the mountain had the power to surprise and challenge me, but it was precisely this unpredictability that makes every excursion so exciting.

Quando finalmente raggiunsi il punto di partenza, ero bagnato e stanco, ma anche soddisfatto di aver affrontato le avversità della natura. Mi rendevo conto che la montagna aveva il potere di sorprendermi e di mettermi alla prova, ma era proprio questa imprevedibilità che rende ogni escursione così emozionante.

That day remained etched in my memory as an unfinished excursion, in a couple of days I think I will have the opportunity to get to the San Liberale lookout, with the sun shining and the blue sky as a backdrop to my finish line!

Quella giornata rimase impressa nella mia memoria come un'escursione incompiuta, fra una paio di giorni penso avrò la possibilità di arrivare alla Vedetta San Liberale, con il sole che brilla e il cielo azzurro a fare da sfondo al mio traguardo!
