Resort life has never been my chosen 'thing' - always been more of a tent in the wilderness type. But it must be said, we had a GLORIOUS day vegging, resting, lazing and recuperating here on the beach in Cyprus yesterday!! 🏖
Back-pedal just a weeny bit. I live in Thailand where we have gerzillions of beach resorts. For tourists. Me? I live 800km away from the beach, in Chiang Mai, where I own and run a physical business producing niche herbal and wellness products. In pre-covid years, we've mostly done beach style bungalow holidays in Vietnam, or somewhere on the coast down on the Gulf of Thailand. But now I'm here in Cyprus visiting a dear friend, Kate, who is hosting us as guests in her seaside home here in Limassol, Cyprus. We're having an 11 day rest & recover break en route to Groningen, Netherlands. Who is we? Myself and my only daughter, Miss 17, who starts at Hanze University of Applied Sciences to study Physiotherapy in September.
The transition from full-on business owner life in Asia to being a student in the Netherlands is a big one for my girl on so many levels, and so we decided some memory-making and beach time in Cyprus would be a perfect transition. Our friend, Kate, is a member at the Amathus Beach Club, and treated us to a resort day yesterday - a PERFECT low-key, lazy, beach day!!
The first thing that strikes you everywhere in Cyprus is the intense colour of the Mediterranean!! BLUE!!! 💙
And HOW NICE was it for our jetlagged selves to have the umbrella and the lounges set up for us, and for us to simply loll about in the shade, in between swims, sipping on a cool drink and feeling the ambiance and the med working their magic.
Kate was incredibly generous treating us to a day as her guests - at 35 euro each this is no backpacker experience!!
The facilities?? absolutely first class!!
There is a huge family pool, with jacuzzis.
And two hot salt water pools, with relaxing music piped underwater!
We enjoyed the beachside aspect, rather than the pool. The protected bay for swimming was pleasure - not too shallow and well supervised for non-athletic wanna be swimmers maybe not used to currents and tides.
There's also a special children's beach area - again, fully supervised, shallow and with toys for their amusement.
Gotta confess, we LAZED a lot. 😆
Apart from some gentle swimming, the most vigorous activities we enjoyed were reaching for a drink ... and people watching.
It felt indolent, luxurious and deeply relaxing.
After a WHOLE DAY beachside, we adjourned to their really nice bar area, which sits above the restaurant and has lovely views over the Mediterranean as the sun sets.
What better than Happy Hour 🍷after a hard day beaching it? Crisp, dry, fruity Cretan white wine, and a Wild Strawberry mocktail for Miss 17. Warm breeze...
If you're wanting to be coddled, soothed and looked after by the handsome pool attendants whilst soaking up some sun in a beach club vibe along the Cypriot coast, I highly recommend Amathus.

Wonderful pics! Thanks for sharing the amazing place. I really enjoy the beaches in Cyprus, especially Coral Beach. Banana farms and vineyards may be seen in the terrain that surrounds this lovely stretch of white sand.

Aaaw - sweet of you to say so. But really? 70 euros for the two of us to lay on the beach and have a dip in a jacuzzi was not just a treat but a TREAT with all capitals... 😄 Endlessly grateful to my generous friend and hostess.

Other world pricing indeed - quite the shock for these Asian hillbillies!! But we're here as Kate's guests and therefore actually spending less than we would at home - OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE airfares notwithstanding.
I'm thinking yup - we've slogged HARD these last years and yup, we have deserved not only a little downtime and luxury, but some quiet space to visualize and call more of that into our day to day lives. x
I'm thinking some Spain time is going to be in my future - planning x2 per year European jaunts to visit my girl.
I mean you had me at doing nothing all day and then you threw in the handsome attendants. Sounds divine. I'm all for roughing it but I'd never turn my nose down at this....
What I LOVED about the attendants? Nice, smiling, charming guys somewhere between 35 and 60 - great fit bodies but definitely not the plastic US pool boy idea. I'm liking that shift in mindset about bodies and what is attractive here.
Being fussed over? This sol mama is fuss deprived and happy to take all she can get! Our hostess, Kate, is unbelievably thoughtful and generous - and it feels soooooo nice after many years of doing it tough.
Hugs. You'd be bored though cos the sea on this side of the island is FLAT. Lovely for swimming, though...
As long as it's ocean I'd cope.... !! I loved the med too. I'll have to get used to that if we travel Europe again.
