In 2020, countless tourists came to Myanmar, curious about what its like to live in Old Bagan, famous for its thousand pagodas. However, recently, things have quite different. In fact, very few tourists brave the numerous checkpoints dotted around the city.
I did just that, fearlessly braving all the obstacles and finally being able to stand on Sunrise Hill Bagan and enjoy the beautiful view without paying. There are places that offer a full view of Old Bagan, including a paid entrance, allowing you to climb to the highest floor of a building, but unfortunately, that view is quite expensive. I can have it for free, so why not?
From this sunrise point, I can see the entire city of Old Bagan over all, the towering, majestic temples, and even the beautiful sky that envelop this beautiful city in the morning. The breeze so gentle, the plants cover in dew, and even the locals were doing the same thing as me, watching the sunrise over Old Bagan. It was such a beautiful morning this year.
While endure the chill, as Old Bagan incredibly cold that morning, I desperately want to find a pair of clothes for my double bed, but I'd left them at the hotel. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed myself, and my excitement outweighed the bone chilling cold.
At Sunrise Hill, I also see some hot air balloons flying high, though only a few. If you look at Google Maps posts from 2020, it was as crowd as Cappadocia. Seriously. But with the dwindling number of tourists, all that gone. I consider myself lucky to have got a glimpse of those hot air balloons, even if only for a short time.
Next to it, I see a beautiful, empty temple. I don't know what it's called, but it's right next to Sunrise Hill Bagan. It really clean, beautiful, and well-maintained. It didn't seem like a time for prayer, but it was well maintain. I watched it from a distance.
Is this a sign that Old Bagan was indeed created for a civilization to be inherited by us in the future? A sign of a greatness that is now slowly fading away. This splendor has existed for hundreds, even thousands of years. However, now it exists only as a part of civilization, unknown to anyone.
May Old Bagan soon recover and shine again.
See you the next time hive friends!

Such a beautiful experience, the photos radiate so much peace. Sunrise Hill Bagan looks like a magical place to enjoy both history and nature. Thanks for sharing it. 🌅✨
Reading this really carried me to Myanmar in my head even though I’ve never been there myself the way you describe Old Bagan makes me feel like I’m standing there with you watching the sunrise and feeling that cold morning air while looking out over the temples it’s crazy how you pointed out the difference between 2020 when tourists were everywhere and now when checkpoints and empty spaces make it feel like a totally different world that shift actually makes your experience feel rare almost like you got to see a side of Bagan most people don’t
I also like how you slipped in the small personal details like leaving your clothes at the hotel and shivering in the cold because that made it feel real and relatable not just like a travel brochure the hot air balloons too even though you saw only a few sound like they made the sky feel more alive in a subtle way instead of being overcrowded like Cappadocia in old pictures maybe you were meant to see it that way a quieter more personal version of the view
That last thought you left about Old Bagan being built for the future really stuck with me it makes me think about how these structures were never just for one generation but for people centuries later to still stand there and feel the same awe like you did I like that you shared this with the world mapping community because it’s more than just a travel story it’s about heritage memory and finding beauty even when things aren’t the same as they used to be
I'm so glad you read my blog in detail. I'm simply sharing my experiences, as I can't write stories like a journalist; this is just a personal blog. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog hive 😍
