Today i set out on a journey to visit onitsha, a city which is located on the eastern Bank of the Niger River, in Anambra state, Nigeria.
Nigeria is one of the countries in West Africa which specifically shares land borders with Cameroon, Chad and the republic of Benin. My journey to Onitsha is one that is remarkable. The weather was cold at night when I arrived in Obosi, a neighboring town which shares the same border with Onitsha before day break. At around 10am in the morning. Everywhere was heated up as the sun was blazing with no clouds to cover its direct heat from scourging the earth. I had to wait till around twelve noon before taking a cold shower and decided to move ahead to Onitsha and locate the area for the youth summit program which was to be held today. When I arrived in Onitsha, everywhere was crowded and in fact the road was busy with different types of automobiles most especially the tricycles which seems to be more predominant in the region. One of the major reasons why the area was over crowded was because it has large market places and many must have come to buy things, especially food items in preparation for Christmas day celebration.

Due to the distance involved and how hot the sun was, I had to enter one of the tricycles which also gave me a little covering in snapping pictures across the busy road. There were many storey buildings and towers that could be seen along the road except there were no skyscrapers along the road in the places I visited. One remarkable thing I noticed was that the floors of each storey building were either store rooms for packing of goods or were used as serious business centers and they were many big supermarkets and pharmacy stores in the area. In fact, everywhere along the road was more of business centers than a residential area which made me not to be surprised why it is regarded as the largest market in west Africa most especially due to its geographical size and the volume of goods in the region. I could go inside the church building to take pictures because of restrictions as people in the south eastern region are security conscious.

I alighted from the tricycle when I got to All Saints Cathedral in Onitsha, Anambra State which is the first Anglican church in the south eastern part of Nigeria.from along the busy road I could see the beautiful architectural designs of the building and its color. When I got across the gate into the church compound, the first thing I saw was trees, a long tennis court and a big field and a walkway, yet the church building was still far away and I had to walk through the field to cross another fenced area through a partly opened gate. After I had crossed the second gate and was face to face with the church building, I was very much amazed. The structure of the building, the tarred roads, the trees and flowers, everything was well planned. The first thing that came to my mind was to take pictures but I had to make sure of the location of the program to know if I had the time. After making some enquiries, I found out that the seminar wouldn't be held today because it wasn't a daily thing since it was held yesterday. I was informed the next time it will be held will be on Saturday which may be the last conference of the year concerning youth empowerment.

It really weakened me after I had spoken to the woman who had explained everything to me, I decided I won't just go like that but it will be good to take my time exploring the area. The kind of feeling I was having was all positive vibes, knowing fully well that this is a holy place, bearing in mind it holds the historical record of being the first Anglican church in the whole of the South Eastern part of Nigeria and beholding the wonderful architectural designs of each structure.
I marveled while observing the tower closely, the entrance of the main church and the pattern of arrangement of the trees in the frontage.
From where I was standing I looked far off and saw a beautiful walkway with beautiful flowers looking fresh under the hot harmattan sun, so I decided to walk till I got to it. When I was getting closer I saw many more buildings and structures.
I almost got confused on which particular building was the main church but I found out that each building has a name boldly visible in front of its frontage almost near the roof.

I approached the walkway and through the walkway visited their bookshop, there were very many things to behold most especially how clean the environment is and the beautiful trees that shaded me most of the time on the outside. There were also sits which were molded under the trees and colored in brown.
The environment is indeed a beauty to behold and the structure of each building within the compound has a certain kind of beauty it adds to the environment.
There were no clouds in the sky and no rain at the time of my visit, only that the air was dry but the heat of the sun wasn't so much in the church premises, maybe because there were many trees that provided shades with their shadows mapping out a big area of land on the ground. I then proceeded to walk through the second gate and then the first one where I had to wait for another tricycle that will tabernacle me back to the neighboring down where I stay and wait till Saturday.

Honestly my time there was really worth it and I went home knowing fully well that though I had missed my main purpose of going, I had fed my eyes.
Also I also know that the date of my first day of visit to the first Anglican church in the south eastern part of Nigeria will go down in diary and in the history of life as the day I visited a church that predates Nigerian independence as a true monument.
