Let's go on an excursion to the Bunkers of Carmel, Barcelona

A youth huddled together looking for some public stoves and providing warmth in the same crowd, with the mere proximity of the bodies, which were ready to look towards the Sagrada Familia, waiting for the sunset show over the city of Barcelona.

The visit to the Bunkers del Carmel caught me completely unprepared, because it was those days as a traveler where I was still getting used to the idea of traveling alone, and I don't know why, I still didn't feel safe using public transport (my Belen of today should approach that other one and tell her that she should use the subway or a bus, hehe). For this reason I launched myself into the adventure of walking from the center of Barcelona to the top of the hill of Turó de la Rovira, where one of the tastiest viewpoints of the city is located.

Vamos a hacer una excursión a los Bunkers del Carmel, Barcelona

Una juventud amontonada buscando unas estufas públicas y brindándose calor en la misma muchedumbre, con la sola cercanía de los cuerpos, que se disponían a mirar hacia la Sagrada Familia, a la espera del show del atardecer sobre la ciudad de Barcelona.

Hola amigos queridos de Pinmapple, otra vez estoy por aquí para compartir con ustedes esta maravillosa experiencia y aventura.

La visita a los Bunkers del Carmel me agarró por completo desprevenida, pues eran aquellos días de viajera en donde todavía me acomodaba a la idea de viajar sola, y no sé por qué motivo, aún no me sentía segura usando el transporte público (mi Belén de hoy debería acercarse a aquella otra y avisarle que le conviene usar el metro o algún autobús, jeje). Por este motivo me lancé a la aventura de caminar desde el centro de Barcelona hasta lo alto del cerro del Turó de la Rovira, donde se encuentra uno de los miradores más sabrosos de la ciudad.

My walk was from the Hostel Barcelona 360 to this space. Google Maps told me that it was a walk of just over an hour, so without any doubt I said: Yes, of course! As those who read me already know, I like to travel and walk the cities.

What I never noticed, was the slope that this meant. It was a walk to be done with sneakers, and I was wearing a pair of white Adidas urban toe shoes. Luckily I didn't have the canvas ones, because then I would have been in the oven.

My feet were tired, because I had been traveling and walking for almost a month, literally without stopping, because I thought I should devour the cities because I would know them better (no, mistake, you don't travel well like that, heh).

Well anyway, I started walking towards the bunkers and finally I arrived to what seemed to me to be an area or a park that would lead me to the desired viewpoint. It had stairs that made the climb much easier.

These stairs were full of graffiti, which indicated that it was a very busy area, especially by groups of teenagers or young adults.

I found these drawings entertaining and they gave this park a special touch.

Mi caminata iba desde el Hostel Barcelona 360 hasta este espacio. Google Maps me decía que era una caminata de algo más de una hora, por lo que sin duda alguna dije: ¡Sí, claro! Pues ya saben quienes me leen, que me gusta viajar y caminar las ciudades.

Lo que nunca me fijé, era la pendiente que esto significaba. Era una caminata para hacer con zapatillas deportivas, y yo llevaba unas Adidas punteras blancas de esas bien urbanas. Por suerte no tenía las de lona, porque ahí sí que hubiese estado al horno.

Mis pies estaban cansados, porque venía viajando y caminando desde hacía casi un mes, literalmente sin parar, ya que pensaba que debía devorarme las ciudades porque así las conocería mejor (no, error, no se viaja bien así, je).

Bueno en fin, empecé a caminar hacia los búnkers y finalmente llegué a lo que me pareció un predio o un parque que me conduciría hasta el deseado mirador. Tenía escaleras que hacían mucho más fácil la subida.

Estas escaleras, estaban repletas de grafitis, lo que indicaban que era una zona sumamente transitada, en especial por grupos de chicos adolescentes o adultos jóvenes.

Esos dibujos me parecieron entretenidos y le daban a este parque, un toque especial.

Many people were climbing at that time to the Carmel Bunkers. Most of them climbed a little and then stopped, to continue on their way a few minutes later. The slope was very steep, but the scenery helped, as the stairs were surrounded by greenery, and somehow the fact that more people were in the same move, made one feel like accompanied, at least I was climbing alone.

Muchas gente estaba subiendo en aquel momento a los Búnkers del Carmel. La mayoría ascendía un poco y luego paraba, para continuar camino pocos minutos después. La pendiente estaba muy marcada, pero el paisaje ayudaba, pues las escaleras estaban rodeadas de verde, y de alguna manera el hecho de que más gente estuviese en la misma movida, hacía que una se sintiera como acompañada, al menos yo que estaba subiendo sola.

When I arrived, there were not so many people at the top, but little by little more and more visitors began to arrive, to the point that at one point I turned around, after hypnotizing myself a little with the view of the city, and I understood that if I moved from where I was, I would lose "my place", because it had become crowded.

When I was satisfied with the photos and with my moment of contemplation, I began to move around the area, since I had hardly explored the surroundings of that viewpoint.

I noticed that there were several groups of guys, who gave me the impression that they were locals from Barcelona, as they were very comfortable with the space. It is impressive how the tourist stands out for being surprised, expectant, while the local looks relaxed, at home.

Al llegar, no habían tantas personas en la cima, pero poco a poco empezaron a llegar más y más visitantes, a tal punto que en un momento me volteé, tras hipnotizarme un poco con la vista de la ciudad, y comprendí que si me movía de donde estaba, perdía “mi lugar”, pues se había llenado de gente.

Cuando quedé satisfecha con las fotos y con mi momento de contemplación, empecé a desplazarme por el área, pues casi no había explorado los alrededores de aquel mirador.

Noté que habían varios grupos de chicos, que me dio la impresión que eran locales de Barcelona, pues estaban muy cómodos con el espacio. Es impresionante cómo el turista se destaca por estar como sorprendido, expectante, mientras el local se ve relajado, en casa.

I was surprised by some stoves that were in the area, I have no idea if they were lit by the government (probably), which made me realize that this was really a very busy place in Barcelona, and from there you can see the display of the whole city, with the Sagrada Familia and the Gloriès building as exponents of this great city, icon of Spain.

After a while in the area, I decided to descend. Everything was quite dark on the way down, and there were almost no people going towards the city, but rather other visitors who were getting ready to reach the bunkers.

On the way down, I took the opportunity to take some pictures on a bridge that I had liked since the ascent.

Me sorprendieron unas estufas que había en la zona, no tengo idea si las encendieron desde el gobierno (probablemente), lo que me hizo caer en la cuenta de que este, realmente era un lugar muy concurrido de Barcelona, y es que desde allí se observa el despliegue de toda la ciudad, con la Sagrada Familia y el edificio Gloriès como exponentes de esta gran urbe, ícono de España.

Pasado un buen rato en la zona, decidí descender. Todo estaba bastante oscuro al bajar, y casi no habían personas yendo hacia la ciudad, sino más bien otros visitantes que se disponían a llegar a los búnkers.

En la bajada, aproveché para tomar unas fotos en un puente que me había gustado desde el ascenso.

The Carmel Bunkers are an area that is related to the Spanish Civil War, since in this area anti-aircraft guns were installed as a defense at that time, around 1938, according to the website barcelo.com.

I recommend visiting this site. A friend's sister recommended it to me as an original and beautiful space. I don't know if I would say it is particularly "beautiful", but the view is beautiful. In addition, of course, it offers a very different experience from what you can live in any other tourist space.

Los Búnkers del Carmel son un área que e relaciona con la Guerra Civil Española, ya que en esta zona instalaron cañones antiaéreos a modo de defensa en aquel entonces, por 1938, según nos comentan desde la página barcelo.com.

Recomiendo visitar este sitio. A mí me lo recomendó la hermana de una amiga como un espacio original y bello. No sé si diría que es particularmente “bello”, pero sí que la vista es hermosa. Además, ofrece claro, una experiencia muy diferente a la que se puede vivir en algún otro espacio turístico.
