Night In The Old Center

in Worldmappin2 days ago

I visited the Old Center of Bucharest not long ago, just a month ago. At night, I very much wanted to see what night is like.

My expectations were not high because it is now winter in Romania. Not exactly a regular winter, because there is no snow, but otherwise, it is primarily cold, especially at night.

I don't like, when I'm cold and uncomfortable with thick and heavy clothes, to visit places and try to enjoy the buildings and monuments, I like to stay in a warm place. We can't always do what we like and that's why I tried this traveling experience. I expected the streets to be empty, but I was wrong...

The Old Center of Bucharest can be confused, in terms of position, with the city center. It is a kind of remnant of the medieval city, with narrow streets and old buildings that have escaped demolition or earthquake damage.

Most of these buildings, once shops, have been transformed into small restaurants, terraces, cafes, and bars.

I must admit that the night makes the atmosphere special, the moonlight always brings a bit of mystery.

It is a historic area and there are still some traces of the past that have not been turned into restaurants.

This part is less bright and less crowded. I liked it in this place, where a three hundred year old monastery still functions. Stavropoleos Monastery!

In the courtyard of the monastery, you feel the peace and relaxation. I always think of the people who have passed there over the hundreds of years it has existed.

I even met a man who seemed to be from another time, singing on the deserted street near the monastery.

Of course, he sings for the money, but I thought he was singing for the shadows of the old inhabitants that we couldn't see.

It took about an hour to visit the whole Old Center. We made it to the exit, into the big and busy city.

Here is the small Latin Square. In the middle is the statue of the she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus. It was a gift from Rome, made in 1910, to emphasize the Latin origin of the Roman people.

In my opinion, the Old Center is like an island of the past in the middle of a big contemporary city. The exit is through an underground passage, the Latin Passage.

The Latin Passage is designed in the same spirit as the wolf statue. It refers to the Latinity of the Romanians. The walls of the passageway are painted with copies of scenes from Trajan's Columns in Rome, evoking the wars between the Romans and the Dacians. The Dacians are the ancient inhabitants of today's Romanian territory. The Romans conquered and occupied Dacia and thus the Romanian people and the Romanian language, based on the Latin language spoken by the Romans, was born.

The Romans and the Dacians are long gone but the Romanians are still there, singing wherever they can, to earn money doing what they like.

Normally I should have also shown the bas-reliefs in the passage but the late hour made me give up. I'll do it another day.

The departure from the island is by boat or ferry, the departure from the Old Center Island is by climbing some steps.

Nights in the city are not beautiful when it's cold outside and there is no snow, as it is this winter.

The night in the city is sad and people are lonely.

I love traveling as much as a dog who lives in an apartment loves to see his owner put his hand on the leash. Like that universal dog, I suffer the same way—that is to say, I regret that the owner puts his hand on the leash too seldom!

I like to tell about my travels and share them with anyone who can and wants to read. I like that when I write, I remember. When I see the photos, I teleport with my mind and relive the beautiful moments once again.

I write mostly about the sea and the big city where I live, which often gives me the impression that I am traveling through it, and about other cities in my country, Romania.

I loved this walk at night, with the lights, decorations, the excellent architecture and also the art that I saw, all in all it was beautiful.

It was nice but the cold spoiled the walk a bit.

That affects but the ride was great and the photos even more!

Thank you!

Love the historic area!
Thank you for giving us these beautiful images.
