The University of San Carlos Museum offers a wide array of gallery for your eyes and mind to enjoy and have fun. Before anything else the University of San Carlos Museum was formally inaugurated on April 23, 1967. The museum was not fortunate enough to withstand during the American liberation bombings in 1945 and was destroyed along with its precious and historical collections. The University of San Carlos Museum is located at the ground floor of the university building on P. Del Rosario Street. The Museum serves as entrance to the campus, it offers astonishing collections from different donors and independently acquired collections. BIODIVERSITY GALLERY
For our first stop. Let's start with the first gallery, the Biodiversity Gallery. Floras and faunas native to the Philippines and abroad are present in this gallery. From a well preserved insect, tarsier, monkey, python, to the most famous Philippine Eagle, the museum all offer that.

The biodiversity gallery really amazed me as I saw floras and faunas that were too unfamiliar for me which made me kind of shocked. Like, oh is this even true. I saw well preserved butterflies and moth of different colors. I saw tarsier and the Philippine Eagle, which I've actually not seen before in person.


But with my experience with this section of the USC Museum, I now imagined the things our teacher taught as before. It's really amazing since all of those things are just seen on books and in online platforms virtually, that's why when I've got the chance to go to USC, I grabbed the opportunity to explore and learn in a more realistic, hands on, and in an authentic way.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL GALLERY
Now let us move forward for our next stop. Welcome to the Archaeological Gallery. This section of the museum, will surely left you wowed.

The archaeological gallery showcases ancient remains such as tools and weapons, pottery, ceramics, ornaments, human skulls and bones and other valuable remains. All are excavated and are well preserved.


I was really amazed upon seeing all of these things I just saw before on books. In this section of the museum, we can see the Manunggul burial jar found in Palawan, which were the remain remnants of our ancestors during the neolithic period. I've also got to witness skull or cranial binding practice, which really deform human skulls.

Also we can see the ancient practice of inserting gold metals in ones teeth, which proves ancient teeth care and art. Aside from what I mentioned, there are also several types of stone carved burial jar, pottery, and ceramics. All of that and more were found in the archaeological gallery.

GALLERY FOR THE PEOPLE OF CORDILLERAS
Going on, let us now jump to the next section of the museum. Welcome to the Gallery for the people of Cordilleras, the IFUGAOS. This section of the museum showcases, the unique traditions of the northern people of the Philippines since time immemorial.

The gallery depicts the everyday lives of these people, from their unique traditions to their intricate way of life. Their head hunting practice scares my intellect, thanks God we're already in the modern times.


I've got to see some of their weapons, which really are shocking. Their practice of rice cultivation to their traditional wears all left me wowed. All that and more were in the gallery for the people of Cordilleras.

ROSITA R. ARCENAS GALLERY
Now we are down for our last stop for today's blog, welcome to the Rosita R. Arcenas Gallery. Mrs. Arcenas gallery showcases a variety of ceramics, pottery, and a massive religious stuffs which will left you amazed.

This section of the University of San Carlos Museum is a personal collection of Mrs. Rosita R. Arcenas and were donated to the USC Museum. This section of the museum is a good holy place for you reflect.


Overall, my experience with the University of San Carlos Museum was a blast. It filled the gap of just reading books. Authentic learning especially if you are majoring social studies is a very good thing to be immersed with. It was my first time in a museum and I did not regret of lending time to such very full of knowledge and amazing experiences at the University of San Carlos. If given a chance, I would still come back to the museum. Include this in your bucket list, and surely your journey would be as knowledgeable as mine. This is your sign to go to museums and explore the beauty of history, culture, and heritage.
