RE: The Exceptional Book Collection At The Teleki Library

Those illustrations and symbols just have this medieval cool things to them. Take that map by Janssonius for example, the map is not like anyone I’ve seen today. That thing doesn’t look like it is from over 3 centuries ago. Or the Transylvania map from the 16th century, ngl that one kinda gives me medieval movie vybes. It looks like those war maps used by soldiers in mediaval movies to formulate war strategies and battle plans.

Instead of photographs, they had illustration in 1781, when this botany book was printed in Nürnberg.

Over here, I was thinking they probably would’ve taped the plants to the pages. Would’ve made sense for simple studies that didn’t involve having to dissect and do internal studies of plants. Something simple like identifying the plants. I want to believe they must’ve done something like that in certain books.

Sort:

Taping the plants is done when you make a herbarium, but imagine how quick the dry plants break. I suppose they studied the plants and made drawings. Anatomy books were made the same way.

Indeed, looking at these books, it gives you a nice feeling, kind of takes you back in time :)

Lol I’m an idiot for not thinking about the plants drying up.😂😂

Lol, no worries, you're not an idiot 😀
