Hello, fellow travelers, I hope you are doing well. Today, I want you to join me in visiting the Monument to San José Gregorio Hernández, located on Centenario Avenue in the city of Ejido, Campo Elías Municipality, Mérida State, Venezuela.
Ever since this complex was inaugurated in 2021, I had been eager to visit it, and a couple of days ago, I finally had the pleasure of exploring its grounds.
In the midst of the majestic mountains of the Andes, this sanctuary was built in honor of the man known in my country as the Doctor of the Poor. From afar, the yellow color invites us to enjoy a beautiful garden, beautiful architecture, and a 3-meter-high monument to Doctor José Gregorio Hernández, attracting devotees and the general public.
For those arriving in Mérida from the western part of the country via the Pan-American Highway, this will be one of the first places you will surely want to visit.
Upon entering the complex, I was surprised to realize that it is much larger than it appears. Undoubtedly, the first thing I did was admire the beautiful sculpture of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, a realistic sculpture created by sculptor Manuel Suescún, according to information found on the site.
I liked that in this sculpture, this iconic figure was wearing his white coat, which makes it different from other sculptures I have seen, where he wears a formal suit and hat.
In the background, a beautiful stained-glass window creates a colorful contrast that really catches the eye. The floor plan of the main structure is circular, creating a harmonious frame around the sculpture.
On the right, we find the chapel, a temple that I loved for its minimalist design. It is a small, simple but very neat church; its irregular floor plan gives it depth and spaciousness.
It is a very warm and comforting place, where the silence brings you great peace and tranquility.
I loved the effect of light and shadow created by the stained glass windows as natural light passed through them.
They also have a space filled with requests, memories, offerings, and testimonials. It was very interesting to learn about some of the stories behind this wall.
My favorite part is the main garden, with different paths where sunflowers take center stage. They are very well cared for and will soon be full of more flowers, as some buds are about to open and reveal this beautiful flower.
This is the ideal place to spend a different and relaxing time, to share and clear your mind. While we were in the garden, we enjoyed watching different birds, which broke the silence of the garden with their beautiful chirping.
I loved this experience, where we also learned a little about the history of this figure who marked a religious and cultural milestone in the country, in a harmonious, warm, and comforting atmosphere.
If you ever find yourself in the city of Ejido in the state of Mérida, don't hesitate to make a stop here. It's open to everyone, and you'll not only enjoy the monument, but also the nature and atmosphere that surrounds this place.
Hola, amigos viajeros, espero que se encuentren de maravilla. Hoy quiero que me acompañen a conocer el Monumento a San José Gregorio Hernández, el cual se encuentra ubicado en la Av. Centenario, de la ciudad de Ejido, Municipio Campo Elías del Estado Mérida, Venezuela.
Desde que este complejo fue inaugurado en el año 2021, tenía muchas ganas de visitarlo, hasta hace un par de días, que tuve el gusto de conocer sus espacios.
En medio de las majestuosas montañas de la cordillera andina, construyeron este santuario en honor a quien conocemos en mi país, como el Doctor de los pobres. Desde lejos, el color amarillo nos invita a disfrutar de un hermoso jardín, una bonita arquitectura y un monumento de 3 metros de altura del Doctor José Gregorio Hernández, atrayendo a devotos y público en general.
Para quienes llegan a Mérida, desde la zona occidental del país, por la carretera panamericana, este será uno de los primeros lugares que seguramente querrán conocer.
Al entrar al complejo, quedé sorprendida al darme cuenta de que es mucho más grande de lo que parece. Indudablemente, lo primero que hice fue admirar la hermosa escultura del Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, una escultura realista, realizada por el escultor Manuel Suescún, según información encontrada en el sitio.
Me gustó que en esta escultura este personaje icónico llevara su bata blanca puesta, lo que hace que sea una escultura diferente a las otras que he conocido, donde lleva un traje formal y sombrero.
Al fondo, un hermoso vitral crea un colorido contraste que llama mucho la atención. La planta de la estructura principal es circular, creando un marco armonioso alrededor de la escultura.
A la derecha, encontramos la capilla, un templo que me encantó por su diseño minimalista. Es una iglesia pequeña, sencilla pero muy prolija; su planta irregular le da profundidad y amplitud.
Es un sitio muy cálido y reconfortante, donde el silencio te genera mucha paz y tranquilidad.
Amé el efecto de luces y sombras que provocan los vitrales, al paso de la luz natural.
También cuentan con un espacio que está lleno de peticiones, recuerdos, ofrendas y testimonios. Fue muy interesante conocer algunas historias que guarda esta pared.
Mi parte favorita es el jardín principal, con distintas caminerías donde los girasoles son los protagonistas; se encuentran muy bien cuidados y pronto estará lleno de más flores, pues algunos botones están por abrirse y dejarán al descubierto esta hermosa flor.
Este es el sitio ideal para pasar un rato diferente y relajante, para compartir y despejar la mente. Mientras, estuvimos en el jardín, disfrutamos de distintas aves, que rompían el silencio del jardín con su bello trinar.
Me encantó vivir esta experiencia, donde conocimos además un poco de la historia de este personaje que marcó un hito religioso y cultural en el país, en medio de un ambiente armonioso, con mucha calidez, que te reconforta.
Si en algún momento te encuentras en la ciudad de Ejido del Estado Mérida, no dudes en realizar esta parada que está abierta para todos y no solo disfrutarás del monumento, sino de la naturaleza y el ambiente que rodea este lugar.
