Hello everyone. During our holiday in Georgia, we visited the city of Signagi located in the Kakheti region. It took us about 2 hours by bus from Tbilisi, give or take 10 minutes. The ticket price was only 10 Lari per person. After getting off the bus, we left the city center and headed to a glamping area located at the city exit. The area is known for its large dome-shaped tents and stunning views of the Alazani valley.
Signagi is a popular destination among European tourists. Its cobbled streets are beautiful and guided tours are available in the old town. There’s even a Spar supermarket in the city center. The balconies are lovely and offer fantastic views. I really loved this place. Our hotel was about 1 km from the city center. We could have walked. But since we wanted to settle in quickly, we found a taxi.
We successfully arrived at the glamping site, where dome-shaped tents and breathtaking views awaited us. First we checked in. According to the taxi driver, when the weather isn’t foggy, the mountains are visible and the views are spectacular. The reception area is also designed as a dome, with sofas and a terrace restaurant inside.
Upon entering, we were immediately greeted by wine, as this place is famous for wines from Georgia’s Alazani valley. There is a beautiful restaurant with panoramic views. We were curious about which dome we would be assigned to. We walked to our room, surrounded by nature and accompanied by the chirping of birds. The domes here generally have terraces. There are about 10 domes and we stayed in the one at the lowest level because it offered the best views. The scenery was amazing. We enjoyed nature and tranquility from here.
Two lakes could be seen in the distance, creating an absolutely stunning view. The beauty was beyond my expectations. Our room cost 100 euros for the night and breakfast was included. Inside there was a table, a central bed, air conditioning and a lamp. Living in a comfortable tent in the midst of nature was special. There’s a shower, toilet, panoramic views and a restaurant where you can eat. I think this place is ideal for the winter months. One could enjoy sitting in a hot jacuzzi with snowy views in winter. There’s also a small fridge and blankets available.
Despite the tent concept every comfort was carefully considered. This type of glamping experience is a great option for nature lovers. Especially Signagi’s nature and its proximity to the city center make it even more attractive.
By the way Signagi is known as the "City of Love". There’s a wedding palace open 24/7 and you can complete your marriage process in just an hour. Also famous Georgian wines, especially Kindzmarauli and Saperavi, are produced from grapes grown in the Alazani Valley. The climate of this region is perfect for grape cultivation. For wine lovers, this place is a unique destination. If you’re planning to visit Georgia and the Kakheti region, Signagi and this type of glamping should definitely be part of your plans.
Before coming here, I thought the place would be much simpler after looking at photos, but once we arrived, I saw how amazing it is. Small houses, ponds, mountains... There is incredible beauty all around.
We headed to our restaurant for dinner. There’s a restaurant with a mountain view here and we checked out the menu. The prices were very reasonable. There’s a wide selection of wines, but we tried the local wines made here. Our meals arrived and they looked delicious. We opted for kebabs and trout from the pond. We also had homemade wine, which had a lovely yellowish color and a refreshing taste. After the meal, the bill came and we paid a total of 20 Euros. So we had a wonderful dinner at a very affordable price. The next morning we started the day with Eggs Benedict and avocado breakfasts. Afterward, we went to the city center and visited the historical sites there.
This region is a historic settlement and has a very important tourist attraction. The city’s fortress, which played a significant role in wars, is 5 kilometers long and once defended the city. Although some parts of the fortress are still functional, it’s open for visitors and entrance is completely free. People climb the fortress to explore the city while enjoying stunning views. Instead of staying here, we preferred to walk and explore the fortress. The climb was a bit challenging, but the view was absolutely worth it. Before our eyes stretched the Alazani Valley, the mountains and the fortress walls. Along the way there were restaurants, cafes and many tourist shops.
This city is one of the most famous in the region and offers visitors a wide variety of souvenirs, handmade products and local flavors. Also, the handmade wines, homemade olive oils and spices sold in the market are very popular. If you visit here, buying local wines and natural products will be a delightful experience.
Many restaurants and cafes offer great options for sitting on terraces with mountain views. This place is very well organized for tourists and provides plenty of relaxation areas. We also visited an important religious site in the city: the 15th-century St. George Cathedral. It was built in traditional Armenian architecture and offers a very impressive atmosphere.
The walk between the fortress and the city was filled with amazing views and the calm atmosphere here was very peaceful. If you visit this region I recommend setting aside time to explore both the fortress and the historic town. The fortress and the old town area, in particular, are definitely worth discovering. Taking photos of the views and exploring these historical places was such a pleasure. This fortress, which dates back to wartime, is a major attraction both historically and panoramically. Exploring the fortress, discovering the old town and experiencing the region's natural beauty provide a fantastic experience for travelers. Also, the colorful streets of the city and the traditional crafts are quite impressive.
Shopping here and buying local souvenirs is also very popular. Especially traditional headpieces like papaha, local products and souvenirs are great to buy. And tasting local dishes at the city’s restaurants and experiencing everything from olive oils to wines and brandy was so enjoyable. We ended our pleasant trip by savoring the atmosphere and the views of the city.

Oooh how great! I had heard that glamping is a big thing in Georgia! Nice to see some examples of it! - I am always more a fan of the small villages. They look so different to the big cities there in Georgia. I felt like this could actually be a different country even 😅. Thanks for showing us around and taking us with you @ellie-mai <3
