A Mother-Son Travel Adventure in Northeast Florida

This time last weekend, Mom and I were enjoying a little mother-son travel adventure.

Availability in our schedules and a chance to visit some old friends in Florida/Georgia opened the window for this spontaneous opportunity.

On the topic of traveling one-on-one with family, a good friend of mine recently shared his joys doing so in both generational directions—taking trips with one of his children and with one of his parents.

There is something special about such travel: getting to know each other better, getting to share experiences unique to the two of you.

First place we stopped was to show my Minnesota mom some orange trees.

Over one dinner, Mom told me all about her first job in high school as a drive-in waitress.

In the swamp, we spotted alligators. On the Jacksonville pier, we watched anglers reel in two small sharks.

That same friend recommended I journal for this five-day outing. Now, Mom and I have documented all the many small but special moments that add up to a memorable, meaningful experience.
