Instituto Inhotim is a contemporary art museum and botanical garden located in Brumadinho, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The institute was conceived in the 1980s by the mining entrepreneur Bernardo de Mello Paz and was inaugurated in 2006 as one of the largest open-air museums in the world.

Inhotim is located between the rich biomes of the Atlantic Forest and the Cerrado, and the exuberant landscapes along the 140 hectares (346 acres) of visitation area provide visitors with a unique experience that blends art and nature.

The institute has about 1,862 works by more than 280 artists from 43 countries, displayed outdoors and in galleries amidst a botanical garden with more than 4,300 rare botanical species from all continents.

O Instituto Inhotim é um museu de arte contemporânea e Jardim Botânico, localizado em Brumadinho, no estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil.
O Instituto foi idealizado desde a década de 1980 pelo empresário mineiro Bernardo de Mello Paz, e nasceu, em 2006, como um dos maiores museus a céu aberto do mundo.
Inhotim encontra-se entre os ricos biomas da Mata Atlântica e do Cerrado, e as paisagens exuberantes ao longo dos 140 hectares de visitação proporcionam aos visitantes uma experiência única que mescla arte e natureza.
O instituto possui cerca de 1.862 obras de mais de 280 artistas, de 43 países, e são exibidas ao ar livre e em galerias em meio a um Jardim Botânico com mais de 4,3 mil espécies botânicas raras, vindas de todos os continentes.

The journey began in Rio de Janeiro, where I boarded a flight to Confins airport. The excitement of the trip to Instituto Inhotim was already taking over me. Upon arriving in Minas Gerais, I rented a car and drove towards the city of Brumadinho, with my anticipation growing with each kilometer traveled.

Upon arriving at Instituto Inhotim, I was greeted by a lush landscape: impeccable botanical gardens, with a rich variety of plants and flowers, creating a true natural paradise. With each step, I was more and more enchanted by the beauty of the place.

A jornada começou no Rio de Janeiro, onde embarquei em um voo com destino a aeroporto de Confins. A emoção da viagem para o Instituto Inhotim já tomava conta de mim. Ao chegar em solo mineiro, aluguei um carro e segui pela estrada em direção a cidade de Brumadinho, com a expectativa crescendo a cada quilômetro percorrido.
Ao chegar ao Instituto Inhotim, fui recebido por um cenário exuberante: jardins botânicos impecáveis, com uma rica variedade de plantas e flores, criando um verdadeiro paraíso natural. A cada passo, a beleza do lugar me encantava ainda mais.

My first stop was at the Reception Center, where I bought my ticket, got information about the galleries and the map of the park. I decided to start my tour with the contemporary art galleries, where I was able to appreciate works by renowned artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Doug Aitken and Adriana Varejão. The immersion in the art world provided me with unique reflections and sensations.

Minha primeira parada foi no Centro de Recepção, onde adquiri meu ingresso, obtive informações sobre as galerias e o mapa do parque. Decidi iniciar meu roteiro pelas galerias de arte contemporânea, onde pude apreciar obras de artistas renomados, como Yayoi Kusama, Doug Aitken e Adriana Varejão. A imersão no universo da arte me proporcionou reflexões e sensações únicas.

Afterwards, I explored the botanical gardens, marveling at the diversity of species and the natural beauty of the place. Lakes, imperial palm trees, sculptures scattered throughout the park and breathtaking landscapes composed a scene worthy of a dream.

Em seguida, explorei os jardins botânicos, me maravilhando com a diversidade de espécies e a beleza natural do local. Lagos, palmeiras imperiais, esculturas espalhadas pelo parque e paisagens deslumbrantes compunham um cenário digno de um sonho.

Throughout the day, I was able to contemplate works of art that challenged me, moved me and made me think. The experience at Instituto Inhotim was much more than a simple visit to a museum, it was a true immersion in a universe of art, nature and beauty.

Ao longo do dia, pude contemplar obras de arte que me provocaram, me emocionaram e me fizeram pensar. A experiência no Instituto Inhotim foi muito mais do que uma simples visita a um museu, foi uma verdadeira imersão em um universo de arte, natureza e beleza.

At the end of the day, with my mind and heart overflowing with emotions, I returned to the inn, carrying with me the unforgettable memory of my adventure in Inhotim. The visit provided me with an enriching experience and left me with the certainty that art and nature can transform and inspire our lives.

Here are some tips for your next trip to Inhotim:

• Plan ahead:
  Buy your tickets online. Consider the park's transportation cart option. It's a bit more expensive, but it will greatly help with getting around. The Institute is huge.
  Define your itinerary based on the works and galleries that interest you the most.
• Wear comfortable clothes and shoes:
  You will be walking a lot, so choose light and weather-appropriate clothing.
• Bring swimwear: The Institute has some "artwork" pools where visitors can cool off. I didn't have this information and didn't take advantage of it.
  
• Bring water and sunscreen: The visit can be long, so it is important to stay hydrated and protected from the sun. The institute has several drinking fountains.
• Take the opportunity to relax and enjoy nature: the institute is a perfect place to connect with nature and forget the stress of everyday life.

Algumas dicas para sua próxima viagem a Inhotim:
Planeje-se com antecedência: Compre seus ingressos online. De preferência, opte pela opção com o carrinho de transporte do parque. É um pouco mais caro, porém, ajudará muito na locomoção. O Instituto é enorme. Defina seu roteiro com base nas obras e galerias que mais lhe interessam.
Use roupas e calçados confortáveis: Você vai caminhar bastante, então escolha roupas leves e adequadas para o clima.
Leve roupas de banho: O Instituto conta com algumas piscinas "obra de arte", onde o visitante pode se refrescar. Eu não tinha essa informação e não aproveitei.
Leve água e protetor solar: A visita pode ser longa, então é importante se manter hidratado e protegido do sol. O instituto conta com diversos bebedouros.
Aproveite para relaxar e apreciar a natureza: O Instituto Inhotim é um lugar perfeito para se conectar com a natureza e esquecer o estresse do dia a dia.
