Gediminas Castle Tower - symbol of Vilnius town {EN/BG}

Hello, Hivers! Another day, another post is coming! In today's post I've decided to show you one of the most iconic landmarks in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. It's called Gediminas Castle Tower and is located in the center of the town.

One of the most strategic places on which an ancient fortress can be located, of which nowadays only the fortress walls and the so-called Gediminas Tower Castle remain. If you decide to visit this landmark you have two options. One of them is to pay the fee of one euro (two euros for a return ticket) and take the funicular that takes you up to the very beginning of the castle. The funicular ride takes about 2-3 minutes, but the view that opens up in front of us is downright amazing. It's like the city of Vilnius has spread out in front of us. During the winter months, there are not so many people wanting to visit the tower and you don't have to wait to get on the funicular.

Едно от най-стратегическите места на които може да се разположи древна крепост от която в днешно време са останали само крепостните стени и т.нар. Gediminas Tower Castle. Ако решите да посещавате тази забележителност имате две възможности. Едната от тях е да си заплатите таксата от едно евро(две евро за двупосочен билет) и да се качите на фуникуляр, който ви изкачва до самото начало на крепостта. Пътуването с фуникуляра отнема около 2-3 минути, но гледката, която се разкрива пред нас е направо невероятна. Все едно град Вилнюс се е разпрострял пред нас. През зимните месеци желаещите да посетят кулата не са толкова много и не се налага да чакате за да се качите на фуникуляра.

For those of you who don't want to pay the €1 fee and prefer to walk up the hill, there is a steep trail with many steps. It is free and you will only pay the fee to enter the tower.

За тези от вас, които не желаят да заплатят таксата от 1 евро и предпочитат да изкачат пеша хълма има стръмна пътека, включваща много на брой стъпала. Тя е безплатна и единствено ще заплатите таксата за влизане в кулата.

After disembarking from the funicular we stopped at one point to realise the size of the castle. Honestly it will take you exactly 5 minutes to walk around the remains of Gediminas Castle. You could clearly see that the castle had most likely been destroyed and only the tower was left to carry the memory of it nowadays. However, it's not every day that we get the chance to visit this place and we immediately headed for the tower.

След като слязохме от фуникуляра спряхме на едно място за да осъзнаем каква е големината на замъка. Честно казано за да обиколите останките от Gediminas Castle ще ве трябват точно 5 минути. Ясно си личеше, че най-вероятно замъкът е бил разрушен и само курата е останала да носи спомена за него в днешни дни. Въпреки това не всеки ден имаме възможността да посетим това място и веднага се насочихме към кулата.

There is a sign on the front door of the tower which indicates the prices for visiting. as you will see in the picture below the price for an adult ticket is 6 euros and for students, pupils and pensioners there is a 50% discount - which would mean 3 euros. In addition, if you decide that you wish to use the services of a guide, you will have to pay 15 euros. We decided that there was no need for this and paid only the entrance fee. In addition to the ticket, the staff there gave us a sticker that said Gediminas Tower, which we had to stick on our clothes to proceed to the upper floors of the tower.

На входната врата на кулата е поставена табела, на която са обозначени цените за посещение. както ще видите и на снимката по-долу цената за билет за възрастен е 6 евро, а за студенти, ученици и пенсионери има намаление 50% - което ще рече 3 евро. Освен това ако решите, че желаете да ползвате услуги на екскурзовод, ще трябва да заплатите 15 евро. Ние преценихме, че няманужда от това и заплатихме само входната такса. Освен билет, служителите там ни дадоха и лепенка на която пишеше Gediminas Tower, която трябваше да залепим на дрехите си за да продължим към горните етажи на кулата.

On the first floor of the tower there are several information signs - one of which read the following - Signs of Baltic Prehistory. It was the one that stated that Gediminas Castle is located on the so-called Castle Hill, which is surrounded by the rivers Neris and Vilnia. The first inhabitants of the castle began to migrate in the distant Iron Age. It is believed that until the 13th century a wooden castle was located on this site, while at the end of the 13th century the construction of one made of bricks began. The name of the castle - Gediminas - comes from the name of the then ruler under whose rule Vilnius became the capital of Lithuania. In addition, you can see various battle uniforms and implements showing the development over the centuries.

На първия етаж на кулата са поставени няколко информационни табели - едната от които гласеше следното - Signs of Baltic Prehistory. Именно на нея беше посочено, че Gediminas Castle е разположен на т.нар. Castle Hill, който е обграден от реките Neris и Vilnia. Първите обитатели на замъкът започнали да се преселват през далечните Iron Age. Вярванията гласят, че до 13 век на това място е бил разположен дървен замък, докато в края на 13 век започва изх.граждането на такъв от тухли. Името на замъка - Gediminas идва от името на тогавашния владетел, по чието управление Вилнюс става столица на Литва. Освен това можете да видите различни бойни униформи, показващи развитието през вековете.

On the second floor of the tower you can see a huge model of how the castle and the settlement next to it looked like in ancient times. In addition, there is an interactive information board explaining the history of the town and the castle. A great attraction for children are the knights' armour, as well as the many swords placed throughout the hall.

На втория етаж на кулата може да видите огромен макет как е изглеждал в древността замъка и селището до него. Освен него има поставено онтерактивно информационно табло обясняващо историята на града и замъка. Голяма атракция за децата представляват доспехита на рицар, както и множеството мечове разположени в цялата зала.

Personally, I found the third floor of the tower most interesting. It presented the modern history of Vilnius and the country as a whole. I was extremely impressed by the fact that Lithuania only gained its independence in 1989. On the 50th anniversary of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, the three Baltic states decided to make a human chain starting from Estonia (Tallinn), passing through Latvia (Riga) and reaching Lithuania (Vilnius). This human chain is better known as the Baltic Way. Its length has reached an incredible 650 km. The entire route of the Baltic Way can be seen on a map.

Лично за мен третият етаж на кулата представляваше най-голям интерес. На него беше представена съвременната история на Вилнюс и страната като цяло. Останах изключително впечатлена от факта, че Литва получава своята независимост чак през 1989г. На 50-тата годишнина от сключването на пакта Рибентроп-Молтов, трите балтийски държави решават да направят жива верига започваща от Естония (град Талин), минаваща през Латвия(Рига) и достигаща до Литва (Вилнюс). Тази жива верига е по-позната под името Baltic Way. Дължината му е стигнала невероятните 650 км. Целия път на Baltic Way може да бъде видян на карта.

With that, our tour of Gediminas Tower Castle came to an end. We only had to visit the top of the tower, which offered a 360-degree view of all of Vilnius. The flag of Lithuania flew proudly from the top of the tower.
