Today I will continue explaining and telling details and curiosities about Gibraltar. An English colony situated in the south of Spain.

Se podría decir que los gibraltareños son los ingleses con más arte que hay, y es exactamente así.
Tanto por el acento, hablando su perfectamente Español, como por la simpatía y alegría que transmiten.

You could say that the Gibraltarians are the most artistic English people there are, and that's exactly right.
Both for the accent, speaking their perfect Spanish and for the friendliness and joy they transmit.

Hoy os quiero contar algunos de los detalles de su querida Roca y de los fortines y restos que quedan por toda ella.
Today I would like to tell you about some of the details of their beloved Rock and the forts and remnants that remain all over it.

Hoy día son muchos los edificios que se han restructurado y mimetizado , podríamos decir para seguir formando parte de la estructura comercial y de ocio, en Gibraltar.
Pero que no hace demasiado tiempo, tenían otra función muy distinta a la de hoy.
Today there are many buildings that have been restructured and mimicked, we could say, to continue to form part of the commercial and leisure structure in Gibraltar.
But not so long ago, they had a very different function to what they do today.

Muchos de las empresas que hoy día tienen sede en estas oficinas, situadas en las murallas de la plaza Grand Casemates Square, están en el lugar de la defensa y controles con almacenamiento de artillería.
Many of the companies that today are based in these offices, located on the ramparts of Grand Casemates Square, are on the site of defence and artillery storage controls.

Sin duda pasear por Gibraltar y fijarte en sus estatuas y edificios históricos te hacen ver y entender perfectamente su historia de control.
No doubt walking around Gibraltar and looking at its statues and historic buildings makes you see and understand its history of control perfectly.

Siendo como es y siempre ha sido un lugar completamente estratégico que controla el paso del estrecho a barcos, ya desde sus inicios, fue quedando hueco y en sus entrañas hay miles de túneles que hacen de la gran roca una perfecta guarida.
Being as it is and has always been a completely strategic place that controls the passage of ships through the strait, since its beginnings, it has been hollowed out and in its entrails there are thousands of tunnels that make the great rock a perfect lair.

Puentes y galerías que en sus inicios eran lugar de control, hoy día son paso continuado de viandantes que van a sus trabajos o de tiendas por ellos.
Galerías urbanas que poco a poco están siendo customizadas y van recobrando un aire mucho más cultural y lúdico.

O puertas como en el caso del portón que os muestro en las imágenes que ahora forma parte de una de las entradas a la plaza aún tiene sus puente y te hace ver, lo que significó en su momento.
Una forma de cerrar la zona amurallada de fortines y galerías para uso exclusivo de militares.
Or gates, as in the case of the gate I show you in the pictures, which now forms part of one of the entrances to the square, still has its bridges and makes you see what it meant in its time.

Landport Tunnel

Imaginar, lo que debió ser este paso cuando el agua llegaba al puente elevadizo fue una de mis cautivadoras experiencias.
Imagining what this passage must have been like when the water reached the lift bridge was one of my captivating experiences.

Y sí, una de las llamativas cosas que se puede ver hoy día es el constante aumento de metros que tiene Gibraltar, cuando ves que esta puerta del puerto que antes era lugar de terminación, podríamos decir y se puede ver, perfectamente. Hoy día esta situada a kilómetros de lo que es el puerto actual.
And yes, one of the striking things that you can see today is the constant increase in metres that Gibraltar has, when you see that this port gate that was once a terminus, we could say and you can see it, perfectly. Today it is situated kilometres away from the actual port.

El constante crecimiento de la Roca es uno de los conflictos constantes, puesto que el crecimiento de Gibraltar conlleva que constantemente las aguas de la Bahía modifiquen sus mareas y además de comer terreno de costa a su País peninsular, tengamos los que vivimos en aguas de la bahía, unas playas que están perdiendo arenas y una biosfera marina muy deteriorada. No solo por el constante transito de barcos, por el puerto de Gibralatar sino además al rellenar los fondos marinos con cemento para su continuo crecimiento.
The constant growth of the Rock is one of the constant conflicts, since the growth of Gibraltar means that the waters of the Bay are constantly modifying their tides and in addition to eating coastal land to its peninsular country, those of us who live in the waters of the bay have beaches that are losing sand and a very deteriorated marine biosphere. Not only because of the constant transit of ships through the port of Gibraltar, but also because the seabed is being filled with cement for its continuous growth.

Trabajo codo a codo con varios gibraltareños y es por ello que reconozco que no solo los que vivimos en la zona Española lo vemos y lo sufrimos, ellos reconocen que el daño al fondo marino por el constante crecimiento es real.

I work side by side with a number of Gibraltarians and so I recognise that it is not only those of us who live in the Spanish area who see it and suffer from it, they recognise that the damage to the seabed from constant growth is real.

A parte de este tan frustrante tema, tengo que decir que Gibraltar es muy cómodo de visitar. Puesto que al no ser un territorio excesivamente grande, todo esta muy cerca. Y es literalmente así.

Los edificios de interés y entre ellos, vas encontrando a tú paso murallas e indicios de la historia. Algo que puedes ir viendo perfectamente a pie y en un par de días. Has podido ver prácticamente los lugares más significativos. Teniendo en cuenta que hay una gran cantidad de medios turísticos que te facilitan la visita tales como los taxis turísticos que te hacen un tour por toda la roca como el teleférico que te lleva en un viaje de unos escasos 5 minutos a la cima de la roca.
Teniendo uno de sus tours el recorrido por los túneles, desde mi punto de vista fue el que más me llamó la atención y uno de los más interesantes y que merece realmente la pena que te expliquen e ir guiado por un profesional.

Apart from this frustrating issue, I have to say that Gibraltar is very easy to visit. As it is not an excessively large territory, everything is very close. And it literally is.
The buildings of interest and between them, you will find walls and traces of history. Something that you can see perfectly on foot and in a couple of days. You have been able to see practically all the most significant places. Bearing in mind that there are a lot of tourist facilities that make your visit easier, such as the tourist taxis that take you on a tour of the whole rock and the cable car that takes you on a journey of just 5 minutes to the top of the rock.
One of the tours is the tour of the tunnels, which from my point of view was the one that most caught my attention and one of the most interesting and really worthwhile to be explained and guided by a professional.

Eso sí, os aconsejo viajar a Gibraltar a pie, puesto que aparcar el coche en Gibraltar es una autentica odisea.
Al ser un lugar muy concurrido y en el que hay mucha zona de aparcamientos para los que viven en ella, no hay a penas aparcamientos para los que vamos a visitar el peñón. Por lo que lo ideal, es viajar a pie.
De este modo te puedes pasear por lugares muy interesantes y vivir el ambiente.

However, I advise you to travel to Gibraltar on foot, as parking your car in Gibraltar is a real nightmare.
As it is a very busy place and there is a lot of parking for those who live there, there are hardly any parking spaces for those who are going to visit the rock. So the ideal is to travel on foot.
This way you can wander around interesting places and experience the atmosphere.

Una de las curiosidades que tiene Gibraltar, es esa nube que se puede ver en loa imagen anterior. En los días de Poniente o de levante se concentran las nubes en la zona más alta de la roca y no se quitan de ahí.
En esta zona se le llama la Boina de Gibraltar y se dice que debido al tiempo de Reino Unido, no podía estar el sol diariamente en esta zona. 🤣
One of the curious things about Gibraltar is the cloud that can be seen in the image above. On days of Poniente or Levante, the clouds concentrate in the highest part of the rock and do not move away from there.
In this area it is called the Beret of Gibraltar and it is said that due to the weather in the UK, the sun could not be in this area on a daily basis.
