Exploring Riviera Maya and surroundings and food.

  Some friends complained about my first post about a nice trip in Playa de Carmen that I didn't get to the point hehe. But I think there are nice tips for those who are thinking to go there. I described a bit about the nice resort that we stayed at called Paradisus Playa de Carmen. It is very good for families with small kids, and also for adults since they have an entire section reserved for "children-free". Every day they had some type of festival and I could try some interesting food in Mexican festivals inside the resort, such as Chicharron Taco, or pork skin tacos. I would admit that pork skin isn't my favorite dish but I had to try it. Another tip is that if you are used to adding cheese in tacos, you won't see that in Mexico. Like adding ketchup to Pizza in Italy, using cheese in Tacos isn't good. In addition, there was the famous marquezita as well in the resort, it is like a street skewer crepe. You can order the filling that you want, I chose the dulce de leche with their famous cheese.

  Ok let's stop talking about food! on the 2nd day of trip, we decided to visit the famous Xcaret park. It is known to be the Disney of Riviera Maya, but more natural with less princesses and fantasy elements. Here we talk about checking out animals, like a zoo and exploring their artificial rivers and their floating and snorkeling on the shore. THey have tons of animals including manatees and dolphins, a big aviary and other animals found around. I am a bit against locking dolphins and big animals in small confinement but I agree that the place is fantastic and you need at least one full day to explore it and a bit educative for kids. They had a lot of fun there.

  Two days after we decided to go on a more cultural tour. It was a full day of tour to go to the incredible Chichen Itza pyramid, a cenote ( a big deep lake in a cave) and to the city of Valladolid. My oldest daughter woke up sick with a fever. We thought initially that it was sunstroke, but no, she spent all the rest of the travel sick, which led us to sick medical help in the 3rd day of fever. We went to the tour with her anyways but the bus was comfortable and we kept her hydrated. Chichen Itza was the third "new 7 world wonders" that I met. Well, Christ the Redeemer is in my home town anyway, but I also went to Petra before my kids were born and now I had the chance to go to Chichén Itza.

  I love to breathe history in places that I visit, and this place is magical and built by the Mayans. Original people of that place. Mexico before Europeans was inhabited by Mayans and Aztecs. Nowadays most of their population descends from these original people and the tour showed us that there are still very traditional Mayan villages in Mexico with their original language, which isn't Spanish. Chichen Itza isn't the most ancient Mayan Pyramid, but it is the most preserved. And it is a religious temple and how it was built in synchrony with the sky events like Venus showing, the Sun, and other important space objects is very interesting. The guide was amazing in explaining us about the place in relation to the local culture and history. It is sometimes a bit expensive but it is worth.

  After Chichen Itza, we went to a Cenote where we could go to this amazing natural cave with a lake in the bottom. The water was very cold! Very cold. My daughter who was sick decided to join me because it was an amazing experience and she even entered the water. In the end, the cold water was good for the fever. We explored a bit the city of Valladolid which was near this Cenote and I went to a tequila and Mezcal tasting. I brought a bottle home, of course, the small bottle since we got a low-cost flight with some very tight-weight luggage allowed.

  Even with my daughter still sick we also explored a bit the famous "quinta avenida" in Playa de Carmen, it is a famous street with lots of stores. But the high of that day was a place called "La coronella", found this place with good reviews and went to check it out. We sat there and ate a very good Ceviche, a famous latin American dish, with fish and lime juice, and also very good shrimp tacos, maybe the best tacos that I tried in my life.

  For me the result of the trip was good, the sad thing was my daughter spent 3-4 days sick and my wife got sick in the way back as well. But still we could see beautiful places, learn and build amazing memories, that I hope that I will be able to access here in Hive in ten years and re-read about this amazing experience.

  Alguns amigos reclamaram do meu primeiro post sobre uma viagem legal em Playa de Carmen que eu não fui direto ao ponto hehe. Mas acho que tem dicas legais para quem está pensando em ir lá. Descrevi um pouco sobre o resort legal que ficamos, chamado Paradisus Playa de Carmen. É muito bom para famílias com crianças pequenas, e também para adultos, já que eles têm uma seção inteira reservada para "crianças sem filhos". Todo dia eles tinham algum tipo de festival e eu pude experimentar comidas interessantes em festivais mexicanos dentro do resort, como o Chicharron Taco, ou tacos de pele de porco. Eu admito que pele de porco não é meu prato favorito, mas eu tinha que experimentar. Outra dica é que se você está acostumado a adicionar queijo em tacos, você não verá isso no México. Assim como adicionar ketchup à pizza na Itália, usar queijo em tacos não é bom. Além disso, havia a famosa marquezita também no resort, é como um crepe de espeto de rua. Você pode pedir o recheio que quiser, eu escolhi o doce de leite com o famoso queijo deles.

  Ok, vamos parar de falar sobre comida! No segundo dia de viagem, decidimos visitar o famoso parque Xcaret. É conhecido por ser a Disney da Riviera Maya, mas mais natural, com menos princesas e elementos de fantasia. Aqui falamos sobre conferir animais, como um zoológico e explorar seus rios artificiais e suas flutuações e mergulhos de snorkel na costa. Eles têm toneladas de animais, incluindo peixes-boi e golfinhos, um grande aviário e outros animais encontrados ao redor. Sou um pouco contra trancar golfinhos e animais grandes em pequenos confins, mas concordo que o lugar é fantástico e você precisa de pelo menos um dia inteiro para explorá-lo e um pouco educativo para crianças. Eles se divertiram muito lá.

  Dois dias depois, decidimos fazer um passeio mais cultural. Foi um passeio de dia inteiro para ir à incrível pirâmide de Chichen Itza, um cenote (um grande lago profundo em uma caverna) e à cidade de Valladolid. Minha filha mais velha acordou doente com febre. Inicialmente pensamos que era insolação, mas não, ela passou o resto da viagem doente, o que nos levou a procurar ajuda médica no terceiro dia de febre. Fomos com ela para o passeio de qualquer maneira, mas o ônibus era confortável e a mantivemos hidratada. Chichen Itza foi a terceira "novas 7 maravilhas do mundo" que conheci. Bem, o Cristo Redentor fica na minha cidade natal de qualquer maneira, mas também fui a Petra antes dos meus filhos nascerem e agora tive a chance de ir a Chichén Itza.

  Adoro respirar história nos lugares que visito, e este lugar é mágico e construído pelos maias. Povo original daquele lugar. O México antes dos europeus era habitado por maias e astecas. Hoje em dia, a maioria de sua população descende desses povos originais e o passeio nos mostrou que ainda existem aldeias maias muito tradicionais no México com sua língua original, que não é o espanhol. Chichen Itza não é a pirâmide maia mais antiga, mas é a mais preservada. E é um templo religioso e como foi construído em sincronia com os eventos do céu, como Vênus aparecendo, o Sol e outros objetos espaciais importantes é muito interessante. O guia foi incrível em nos explicar sobre o lugar em relação à cultura e história local. Às vezes é um pouco caro, mas vale a pena.

  Depois de Chichen Itza, fomos a um Cenote onde pudemos ir a esta incrível caverna natural com um lago no fundo. A água estava muito fria! Muito fria. Minha filha que estava doente decidiu se juntar a mim porque foi uma experiência incrível e ela até entrou na água. No final, a água fria foi boa para a febre. Exploramos um pouco a cidade de Valladolid que ficava perto deste Cenote e eu fui a uma degustação de tequila e mezcal. Trouxe uma garrafa para casa, claro, a pequena, já que pegamos um voo de baixo custo com algumas bagagens muito apertadas permitidas.

  Mesmo com minha filha ainda doente, também exploramos um pouco a famosa "quinta avenida" em Playa de Carmen, é uma rua famosa com muitas lojas. Mas o ponto alto daquele dia foi um lugar chamado "La coronella", encontrei esse lugar com boas avaliações e fui conferir. Sentamos lá e comemos um Ceviche muito bom, um prato latino-americano famoso, com peixe e suco de limão, e também uns tacos de camarão muito bons, talvez os melhores tacos que já experimentei na vida.

  Para mim o resultado da viagem foi bom, o triste foi que minha filha passou 3-4 dias doente e minha esposa também ficou doente no caminho de volta. Mas ainda assim pudemos ver lugares lindos, aprender e construir memórias incríveis, que espero poder acessar aqui em Hive em dez anos e reler sobre essa experiência incrível.
