On foot to Iran - Van city and lake and city of Kars

After ascent to Ararat and really hard descent with bumped knee, I stood next 2 days with my Armenian friends and together we visited city and lake Van which are deeply connected with beginning of Armenian state. In the city there is a fortress from where first Armenian state was ruled and in the middle of a Van lake there is still Armenian church from 9 century. There was some conflict with Turkish guards because Armenians wanted to say some pray in the church but the guards didn't let them... At the end of the day, we swam in that lake and it's salty!

Second day we visited city of Kars which has also memorable place in Armenian history and there are old fortress and old Armenian church which is a mosque now. Than we moved to Georgian borders from where I again continued myself 🙂

It was nice after long months to be part of some group, have someone to talk to and I can say that these guys were really great people. Also visit these places was really instructing because it's former Armenian territory which has been over 100 years part of Turkey.

Also relationships in these area are very complicated because Armenians don't like Turkish, between Armenia and Turkey are no diplomatic relations and also borders between these two countries are closed due to genocide of Armenian people during WWI. So when Armenians want to go to Ararat, which is maybe 50-60 km from Yerevan, they must go over 400 kilometres through Georgia. And you must also consider that these lands are inhabited by Kurdish people and there are also a lot of Turkish checkpoints and really big part of Turkish army is located in this wild land.

Po vystoupání na Ararat a namáhavém sestupu s naraženým kolenem jsem zůstal další 2 dny s mými arménskými přáteli a společně jsme navštívili město a jezero Van, které jsou hluboce spojeny s počátky arménského státu. Ve městě je pevnost, odkud panovník vládl celému státu a uprostřed jezera je arménský kostel z 9. století. Zde také vznikl konflikt s tureckou ostrahou, protože Arméni chtěli v kostele pronést modlitbu, nicméně to jim nebylo ostrahou dovoleno. A je konci dne jsme si v jezeře i zaplavali a je slané!

Druhý den jsme navštívili město Kars, které má rovněž významné místo v arménské historii, je zde stará pevnost a kostel, který je dnes mešitou. Poté už jsme se přesunuli ke gruzínským hranicím a odtud už jsem pokračoval zase sám 🙂

Bylo hezké být po dlouhých měsících zase součástí nějaké skupiny a mít si s kým popovídat a můžu říct, že Arméni byli prostě skvělí lidé. Bylo velice poučné a emotivní s nimi navštívit tato místa, jelikož se jedná o původně arménské území, které je ale přes 100 let součástí Turecka.

Rovněž vztahy v tomto regionu jsou velice komplikované, jelikož Arméni Turky nemají zrovna v lásce, mezi těmito zeměmi rovněž nejsou žádné diplomatické styky a hranice jsou zavřené kvůli genocidě Arménů za 1. světové války. Takže pokud se chce Armén vydat na Ararat, který je z Jerevanu možná 50-60 km, musí jet přes 400 km přes Gruzii. A člověk také musí brát v úvahu, že tento region je obýván Kurdy, je zde mnoho tureckých checkpointů a rovněž je v tomto divokém a neklidném regionu umístěna velká část turecké armády.
