Austria's most photogenic village "Hallstatt"

in Worldmappin4 years ago (edited)

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have spent a lovely sunny day in Hallstatt. Since I first saw a photo of this tiny Austrian village, nestled between a lake and a mountain range, I have wanted to go there. I am pretty sure you know which photo I am talking about…

Because of my profession, I have to attend many conferences. So, last time when I got a conference invitation from Vienna, Austria, I immediately made a plan to visit this picturesque village on the upper side of Austria. After seven days of exploring Vienna, I took an early morning train from Vienna to Hallstatt.
I couldn't help but get excited as the train got closer and closer to Hallstatt, as I rattled past large blue lakes, grey rocky mountains, and the greenest grass I'd seen in a long time.

I had to take a small ferry to get to Hallstatt because the train station was across the lake. It's a fantastic way to arrive because the views from the lake are breathtaking!

I arrive there around 9am so at that time the place was quiet and calm but within an hour there were hundreds of people roaming the tiny little village. As soon as I set foot in Hallstatt I went to put my rucksack in a locker which is in the info centre. The tourist info centre is 5 mins walk from the boat station and city centre is in between them.

Hallstatt is popular for its salt mining history and one can get to the mining site or upland valley by using the funicular. The Hallstatt upland valley provides stunning views of the mountains and lakes, as well as insight into Hallstatt's history.

I couldn’t visit the mine because it was quite expensive for me, but I did get to enjoy the viewing platform. The observation deck is shaped like a triangle, the point hanging off over the edge of a cliff.

There was a restaurant at the top where I had my lunch with a mindblowing view from the restaurant.

I took a walk around the area after marvelling at the views, then hiked back to the town down the mountain. The hiking road was not that safe though.

I am glad that I didn't take the cable car to get down from the top as I took some nice photos from above. Then I went to the most photogenic spot of the Hallstatt and took some pictures.

I was really amazed by the beauty of this tiny village. It was fun to wander small town with a lot of narrow and twisty streets.
I am a newbie who loves to travel a lot and I hope you like my article.
