I find joy in exploring new places, and recently, I had the opportunity to visit the idyllic town of Hindang in Leyte, an island in the Philippines. It was my first time in this town, and I am excited to share my experiences with everyone. Hindang is a beautiful town with lots of amazing places to explore.

During my visit, I got to meet the friendly locals and learn about their diverse cultures. Although the town is not very special, what makes it unique is its small community where almost everyone knows each other.

As the town is located on an island, it has a rural vibe that adds to its peaceful atmosphere. Overall, my trip to Hindang was a wonderful experience that brought me happiness and a renewed sense of appreciation for small-town living.

Hindang Town Hall

The municipality has a town hall that serves as the center for all government offices and facilities. It is a two-story building where people can conduct public transactions and do business with the local government. The town hall also houses public vehicles like the fire truck and the ambulance. One can find several public places here, including an ATM machine for employees to withdraw their salaries and for locals and visitors. If you have any business with the local government, this is the place to go.

Hindang Public Market

The Hindang Public Market is where locals and tourists can buy fresh meat and fish here in Hindang, Leyte. Like other markets, it has a wet section and dry section with various goods and services such as money remittances, pawn shops, bakeries, hardware, and pharmacies. Even though it's a small town, it provides enough for everyone.

What caught my attention were the stations for the town's common means of transportation, which is a tricycle and a traysikad - that bicycle with a cab, which indeed has a unique style compared to those in Cebu City.

They use bicycles that are possibly sold secondhand from Korean or Japanese stores. Their tricycles also have different design which is different from those in my hometown Cebu City, which adds to their distinct style.

These modes of transportation are efficient and eco-friendly, causing lesser pollution compared to buses and jeepneys which are not common in the town.

Hindang Parish Church

This is the town church of Hindang, which is the Saint Michael the Archangel Parish church, and this is located just in the heart of the town, where everyone goes to church every Sunday, attend weddings, funerals, baptisms and so much more. It is quite a huge church, and it could cater to a lot of mass-goers.

When we went during this time, I was not able to take a photo of what was inside because there was a mask that was currently held, and we were not able to attend to it on time, so we just decided to take a photo of what it looks like outside.

Their parish church is spacious, and the place is just so refreshing, especially because a lot of trees and plants surround it, and it's a good site indeed.

Hindang Sports Complex

The Hindang Sports Complex is a great place for people to play for free, and it's even better that they have provided shade for the players, especially during these hot summer days.

The presence of shade makes it comfortable for people to play and enjoy sports without being exposed to the scorching heat of the sun.

Not just athletes or basketball players, but students who want to practice their school plays or performances can also take advantage of this place.

It's open to everyone, and that's what makes it so friendly. The stage is often used by students to practice their dance rehearsals, making it a multifunctional space. It's not just a place for leisure, but also for school activities and practices. The Hindang Sports Complex is indeed a great place to be.

Statue of the Hindang Veterans

Beside the Sports Complex, you'll find a state show commemorating the Hindang veterans who fought in World War I or II, that I am not so sure about. The statue honors the brave Filipinos who died during the war, most of whom were from Hindang, Leyte. It serves as a reminder for people to value their land and its history. The names of the deceased veterans from the town are listed,a snappy salute to everyone.

Hindang Irrigation Office

In my previous blog, I mentioned that I recently saw rice fields for the first time in the town of Hindang.

The town is filled with rice fields that require regular irrigation to grow. There is a commission that oversees these irrigation systems and their office is located beside the Town Center of Hindang.

Although the office was closed at the time, I was able to take a look at its exterior. The office mainly caters to farmers and lot owners who apply for irrigation systems and renewals to ensure their rice fields can function and flourish.

Proper irrigation is crucial for the growth of rice fields, which serve as a primary source of income and livelihood for these farmers. The people of Hindang value their irrigation systems greatly, and this is reflected in their status as the top rice producers in the Philippines.

It is important to appreciate the hard work that our Filipino farmers put in to provide us with this staple food.

Hindang Central School

Hindang Central School, located in the District of Leyte, provides a spacious and conducive learning environment for all learners in town.

As the Central School, it is the gathering place for division contests between schools from all the barangays under Hindong. The school is well-maintained and organized, with beautiful flowers and plants surrounding the area.

Kudos to the faculty and staff for their efforts in keeping the school spotless and inviting for all learners. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that each barangay in Hindang has its own school, making education accessible to all in the community.

Hindang 7/11

One of the most convenient stores available in many countries, including this one, is 7-Eleven. It offers a variety of food and drink options that are perfect for when you're on the go. Additionally, having an ATM inside is a great feature. You can also use their machine for cashless transactions such as paying bills and G Cash, which is available at the Hindang 7-Eleven branch. This branch is conveniently located near the Hindang Public Market and has plenty of spacious parking for customers. We got tired after roaming around town, we stopped by to buy some water.

We had so much fun exploring the town and we can’t wait to visit many other new places this year!

See you in my next adventure! Ciao!☺︎♡
